The election for the 243-seat Bihar assembly is being held in 3 phases &ndash; 71 constituencies will vote in the first phase on October 28, 94 seats will go to polls in the second phase on November 3 and third phase on November 7 will cover 78 assembly seats. The ballots will be counted on November 10. &nbsp;
Around 7.29 crore people including nearly 78 lakh first-time voters will decide the fate of political stalwarts like Nitish Kumar and as well as that of rising sons like Tejashwi Yadav and Chirag Paswan. &nbsp;
Alliances have changed since the last Bihar assembly elections in 2015 which saw the RJD, JD(U) and Congress combine come to power. However, Nitish Kumar walked out of this grand alliance in 2017 to return to the BJP-led NDA fold. He continued as the Chief Minister but BJP&rsquo;s Sushil Kumar Modi replaced RJD&rsquo;s Tejashwi Yadav as the Deputy Chief Minister. &nbsp;
2020 might be the younger Yadav scion&rsquo;s year of vengeance as he takes the field as the chief ministerial candidate of the Congress-RJD Mahagathbandhan. The RJD has bagged the lion&rsquo;s share and will be contesting 144 seats, Congress 70 seats and the CPI-ML, CPI and CPI(M) will be contesting a total of 29 seats. The grand alliance is however a few allies short with Vikasheel Insaan Party and former CM Jiten Manjhi&rsquo;s Hindustani Awam Morcha quitting the alliance and joining NDA. &nbsp;
The ruling coalition may have gained 2 allies but it lost 1 very important ally with Lok Janshakti Party led by late Ram Vilas Paswan&rsquo;s son Chirag Paswan deciding to party ways with NDA in Bihar over differences with Nitish Kumar. While the LJP will fight the polls alone, it will field candidates only against JD(U) and not the BJP.&nbsp;
The saffron party is contesting 110 seats, the JD(U) 115 seats and smaller allies Vikasheel Insaan Party and CM Jiten Ram Manjhi&rsquo;s HAM will be fighting from 11 and 7 seats respectively.&nbsp;

Defending Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Captain said&nbsp;pointed out that in the&nbsp;Hathras&nbsp;case, the Uttar Pradesh government and police &ldquo;did not only fail&rdquo; to initiate stern action but in fact was seemingly &ldquo;trying to cover up&rdquo; the matter to benefit the upper-caste accused.&nbsp;This, he said, was in sharp contrast to the prompt action taken by the Punjab Police, who immediately arrested the accused and is now preparing to file the challan within a week.&nbsp;The BJP attacked the Congress on Saturday over alleged rape and killing of a six-year-old girl in Hoshiarpur, as it asked&nbsp;Gandhi duo&nbsp;why had they not paid a visit to the family of the victim yet.&nbsp;The CM, in a statement, said he himself had directed the director general of police to ensure that the case is fast-tracked by the courts to ensure strict and exemplary action for the accused.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis&nbsp;has tested positive on coronavirus.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Bharatiya Janata&nbsp;said that he has gone in isolation and&nbsp;is under medication and treatment as per the advice of the doctors.
Fadnavis&nbsp;who is in charge of BJP's poll campaign for Maharashtra&nbsp;tweeted saying that God wants him to take a break for a while now.&nbsp;
He wrote,&nbsp; &ldquo;God wants me to stop for a while and take a break. I have been working every single day since the lockdown but now it seems that God wants me to stop for a while and take a break ! I have tested Covid-19 positive and in isolation. Taking all medication &amp; treatment as per the advice of the doctors,&rdquo;
Fadnavis requested those who have made contact with him recently to get tested for the virus as well.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address 12 rallies in Bihar to campaign for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance ahead of the October-November election in the state. The BJP said PM will address three rallies a day and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will share the stage with him in at least one of them. This is the first time that PM Modi is seeking votes for Nitish Kumar.
Modi will hold his first rally in Sasaram on October 23. He will also visit Gaya and Bhagalpur the same day. His last rally will be on November 3 in Araria. BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, who is overseeing the party's Bihar campaign, said PM Modi would visit Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Patna on 28th October, which the first day of voting.

Chandigarh, PTI: The ruling BJP on Thursday named party leader and Olympic medallist Yogeshwar Dutt as its candidate for the bypoll to the Baroda assembly constituency.
According to a party statement, the wrestler-turned-politician will contest the November 3 bypoll from Baroda seat in Sonipat.
The last date to file nomination for the bypoll is Friday.
The bye-election was necessitated due to the demise of Congress MLA Shri Krishan Hooda in April. In the 2019 assembly polls, Dutt had lost to Hooda from the seat.
Till about midnight, the Congress was yet to announce its candidate for the seat.
Earlier in the morning, some sports personalities including BJP leader Babita Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Geeta Phogat and&nbsp;Dutt had met Chief Minister M L Khattar in Delhi.
The sportspersons batted for&nbsp;Dutt's candidature for the Baroda seat, which the saffron party has never won.
Khattar earlier said that the party''s state unit had discussed 25 names, but shortlisted four and sent it to the party high command.
The party on Thursday evening announced&nbsp;Dutt's name for the seat.
The wrestler-turned-politician, who hails from Bhainswal Kalan village in Sonipat district, had joined the BJP in 2019 ahead of the state assembly polls.
