The Patna district administration made elaborate arrangements at more than 100 ghats along the river to avert any untoward incident during Chhath Puja, Bihar&rsquo;s biggest festival, officials said.
Several medical camps had also been set up at various ghats in Patna, they added.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took part in the Chhath Puja festivities at his official residence, 1 Anne Marg, on Tuesday morning, along with his family members.
Chhath Puja was also celebrated at the residences of several politicians in the state capital.
The four-day festivities began on October 25 with the 'Nahai Khai' ritual. It is observed on the sixth day of &lsquo;Kartik Shukla&rsquo;, six days after Diwali.

The Bihar government has made extensive preparations for Chhath Puja, deploying security, medical, and disaster response teams across ghats and ponds.

Elaborate arrangements have been made by the Bihar government across the state for the third day of the Chhath Puja festival or 'Mahaparv' on Monday, officials said.
The devotees will worship Goddess 'Chhathi Maiya' by offering prayers or 'Arghya' to the setting sun on Monday. Millions of devotees are expected to offer prayers at various ghats of the holy river Ganga and other water bodies in Patna and other parts of the state in the evening.
The second Arghya will be offered to the rising Sun on Tuesday morning, marking the culmination of the four-day festival.
The Patna district administration has made elaborate security arrangements at more than 102 ghats along the river Ganga, 45 parks and 63 ponds here to avert any untoward incident during Chhath, Bihar's biggest festival, officials said.
Besides, 205 magistrates, personnel guarding 171 watch towers, 103 medical camps, 23 teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and NDRF, 444 swimmers, 323 boats, 143 volunteers of Civil Defence have also been engaged in Patna district for smooth Chhath puja celebrations, officials said.
"All ghats are ready for the Chhath puja festival. Adequate arrangements for Chhath Puja have been made in Patna. All permanent ghats are connected to the riverfront, ensuring that devotees will not face any inconvenience reaching there.
We have also issued advisories for the Chhath Puja&hellip;.which visitors and devotees must follow. Officials have also been directed to ensure devotees face no inconvenience. There are six dangerous and seven unfit ghats which people have been advised not to visit," the official said.
"A large number of additional security forces have been deployed in the state capital to manage crowds and avoid any untoward incidents," he said.
The four-day auspicious occasion began on October 25 with the 'nahay-khay' ritual and will conclude on October 28. It is observed on the sixth day of Kartik Shukla and six days after Diwali. On this day, worshippers honour 'Chhathi Maiya', the sun god, and seek their blessings and prosperity for their families and children.
Day one of the festival is called Nahai Khai, which begins with devotees taking the holy dip in the Ganga and other rivers and also ponds. The next day, devotees observe a full-day fast, which is completed in the evening after praying to the sun and the moon during sunset.
The third day is called 'pehla argha' or 'saandhya argha'. The devotees and their families go to the river bank and offer prasad and 'argya' to the Sun God. The festival concludes with devotees offering prayers to the rising sun on the fourth day.

According to the advisory, traffic flow is expected to be affected from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning on roads adjoining major Chhath Puja ponds. Commuters have been advised to avoid stretches near ghats and use public transport wherever possible.
In east and northeast Delhi, major gatherings are expected at the Gandhi Nagar Chhath Poojan Samiti Naav Ghat near the Old Iron Bridge, Purvanchal Nav Nirman Sangtan Ghat and Satyamev Jayate Ghat near Geeta Colony, each likely to draw more than 45,000 devotees.
The DND Yamuna Khadar and Chhath Ghat near Shastri Park are also likely to witness heavy footfall. Slow movement of traffic is anticipated near Geeta Colony, IP Extension and Shastri Park, the advisory issued on Sunday said.
In Bhajanpura, commercial vehicles will not be allowed on GT Road from Shastri Park to Yudhishthir Setu between 5 pm and 7 pm on Monday, and between 5 am and 7 am on Tuesday.
In Gandhi Nagar, Shantivan Loop and Laxmi Nagar to Kailash Nagar Road will remain closed from 5 pm to 6 pm on Monday and 5 am to 7 am Tuesday, with traffic diverted via Disused Canal Road.
In Khajuri Khas, traffic towards Sonia Vihar will be diverted from Nanaksar to Old Wazirabad Road, and vehicles from Sonia Vihar Border will be diverted from the MCD Toll towards Sabhapur village.
In central and north Delhi, large congregations are expected across several ghats, including Shyam Ghat in Jagatpur, which is expected to attract over one lakh devotees. The Shani Mandir Ghat at Jagatpur and Vaasudev Ghat near ISBT are also expected to see major gatherings, the advisory said.
Traffic along Majnu ka Tila, Burari, Wazirabad Road and areas around the Yamuna may remain heavy, it said.
In south and southeast Delhi, major crowds are expected at Bhola Ghat in Kalindi Kunj, where between 2.5 and 3 lakh people are likely to assemble, police said.
Khasra No 1575 in Aya Nagar, Shiv Ghat near Shri Ram Chowk and Asthal Mandir in Sangam Vihar are also likely to see large gatherings. Vehicular movement along MB Road from Lal Kuan to Tughlakabad Extension, Khadar Kalindi Kunj Road, Agar Canal Road and Road No 13 may remain slow.
In northwest and outer Delhi, heavy gatherings are expected at Bhalswa Lake near the Golf Course and the UP Bihar Ekta Maha Manch near Majlis Park metro station. Traffic diversions are expected near Bawana, Holambi Kalan, Narela and stretches of the Outer Ring Road.
In west Delhi, major gatherings are anticipated at Surya Upasana Park in Dabri, Vishwas Park in Raja Puri and Chhath Puja Park in Mangolpuri. Traffic along Raja Puri main road, Dabri-Palam road and Mangolpuri may slow down in the evening.
Officials said no restrictions will apply on routes towards New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, Nizamuddin Railway Station and ISBT, but commuters should plan for possible delays.
People have been advised to use Delhi Metro and other public transport. Roadside parking will not be permitted near ghats, and vehicles must be parked only in designated lots, the advisory said.
Motorists have been requested to remain patient, follow traffic rules and cooperate with police personnel deployed at key intersections, it added.

Our government has declared holidays for two days, but Delhi (central government) does not," she said.
Banerjee also advised the people to celebrate the festival at the ghats with caution to avoid any untoward incident.
The chief minister also virtually inaugurated Chhath Pujas at a number of ghats in Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly districts.
