Indian Space Research Organisation is set to attempt to revive Chandrayaan-3&rsquo;s Vikram lander and Pragyan rover during the lunar sunrise on September 22.
ISRO Director Nilesh Desai said that the lander and rover were put on sleep mode on September 3. He added that since September 20, the Sun has started rising on the Moon, so the solar panels on the rover and lander will get charged.
The scientists at ISRO are hoping that the lander and rover would have survived night temperatures as low as -200 degrees Celsius during its hibernation.
As per ISRO officials, if the onboard instruments survive the low temperatures of lunar night, they can continue collecting more data from the lunar surface for another 14 days.

Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the Moon's surface at 6:04 pm IST today, making India the first country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon's south pole&mdash;a region of great interest due to the potential for discovering water.
But what follows the successful landing?
The rover, named Pragyan, will descend from the lander Vikram's belly onto the Moon's surface to conduct a thorough analysis.
Both the lander and rover will undertake a series of experiments, including a spectrometer analysis aimed at uncovering the mineral composition of the lunar surface.
Their operational window extends for one lunar day, equivalent to about 14 Earth days. This period corresponds to the duration when the Sun shines on the Moon.
During daylight, all systems are expected to function optimally. However, when the lunar night falls, temperatures plummet to as low as minus 180 degrees Celsius, significantly reducing the likelihood of the spacecraft's survival.
The course of events beyond these initial 14 days remains uncertain.

This means that ISRO assessed which parts can fail, and took steps to strengthen them.
These included putting more robust impact legs on the lander, and installing additional sensors and cameras.
ISRO has also increased the landing area.
Chandrayaan 3 is also carrying more fuel, and the lander has more solar panels to generate power no matter how it lands.
This time, there is no orbiter module, and this simplifies the mission.

Chandrayaan-3 mission consists of an indigenous propulsion module, lander module and a rover with the objective of developing and demonstrating new technologies required for inter-planetary missions.
Friday's mission is the fourth operational flight of LVM3 which aims to launch the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into a Geo Transfer Orbit.
The LVM3 vehicle has proved its versatility to undertake most complex missions including injecting multiple satellites and interplanetary missions among others. It is also the largest and heaviest launch vehicle ferrying domestic and international customer satellites, ISRO said.
Scientists at ISRO through the third moon mission aim to demonstrate various capabilities including reaching the orbit of the moon, making a soft-landing on the lunar surface using a lander, and a rover coming out of the lander to study the surface of the moon.
On Tuesday, the 'launch rehearsal' simulating the entire launch preparation and process that lasted for over 24 hours concluded at Sriharikota while the next day, the Mission Readiness Review was completed by the scientists.

Through the Chandryaan-3 programme, ISRO is crossing new frontiers by demonstrating soft-landing on the lunar surface by its lunar module and demonstrating roving on the lunar terrain, the space agency said.
The LVM3-M4 rocket (formerly GSLVMkI II) dubbed as 'Fat Boy' by space scientists for its ability to carry a heavy payload, would carry Chandrayaan-3 on Friday as ISRO's ambitious moon mission is hugely anticipated from this spaceport on Friday.
The soft landing of the spacecraft is planned for late August. The mission is expected to be supportive to future interplanetary missions.
Chandrayaan-3 mission consists of an indigenous propulsion module, lander module and a rover with the objective of developing and demonstrating new technologies required for inter-planetary missions.
Friday's mission is the fourth operational flight of LVM3 which aims to launch the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into a Geo Transfer Orbit.

Chandrayaan 3: What's next after Moon mission? Here's what ISRO is planning

While all eyes are on Chandrayaan 3 and India's second attempt to land on the Moon, space agency ISRO has other significant missions and tests in the pipeline.
First is pre-testing for the Gaganyaan astronaut mission, for which ISRO might conduct two abort missions this year, and an unmanned mission in early 2024.
The actual sending of Indian astronauts to space might happen in 2024 or 2025 if all the tests are successful.
India is also collaborating with the US to send an astronaut to the International Space Station next year.
Then there is India's first solar mission. The launch window for Aditya L1 is between August this year and January next year.

National award-winning filmmaker-writer Vinod Mankara's new book was released from the rocket launchpad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) here.
The unique launch of 'Prism: The Ancestral Abode of Rainbow', a collection of science articles, was held at the SDSC-SHAR on Thursday evening, as preparations were going on full swing there for the country's much-awaited Moon mission Chandrayaan-3.
ISRO Chairman S Somanath released the book by handing it over to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) Director S Unnikrishnan Nair while the countdown for the historic launch was progressing at the space centre.
SDSC-SHAR Director A Rajarajan, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) director V Narayanan, former ISRO Director K Radhakrishnan, and many other space scientists were present besides Lipi Publications managing director Lipi Akbar, the publisher of the book, during the function.
Published by Kozhikode-based Lipi Books, 'Prism' is a compilation of 50 interesting articles from various streams of science including space science, astronomy, biology, anthropology and mathematics. It covers various topics such as the James Webb space telescope, dark sky tourism, black hole confirmation, the dog Laika's first space journey and so on.
Somanath himself has penned the foreword for the 167-page book in which he said it was full of the "marvels of science".
'Prism' is an exploration into the aesthetic and poetic aspects of science and it would help common people develop a close bond with science and feel its beauty.
Mankara is the maker of 'Yanam', a science-Sanskrit documentary on India's historic Mars Orbiter Mission 'Mangalyaan'.
He has won national and state awards multiple times, has six films and 685 documentaries to his credit.
'Chandranu Nere Choonduviral' on Chandrayaan-1 and 'VSSC@60' marking the 60 years of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre are also among Mankara's documentaries. A new documentary on the Chandrayaan-3 is also in the making.&nbsp;

Following Chandrayaan 3's launch on July 14, one of the biggest hurdles before India's third Moon mission is the area of the Moon where ISRO has planned a landing.
The landing site is near the Moon's South Pole and is similar to the Chandrayaan 2 mission.
All previous spacecraft sent by other countries have landed near the Moon's equator which is smoother and gets more sunlight for solar-powered instruments.
However, the Moon's poles don't get much sunlight, and the temperature can fall as low as minus 230&deg;C.
The poles also have large craters, and the region remains unexplored from the surface.
NASA wants to send astronauts to the South Pole to look for frozen water.
And so, data from Chandrayaan 3 can play an important role in NASA's future mission.

"The 'Launch Rehearsal' simulating the entire launch preparation and process lasting 24 hours has been concluded," the national space agency headquartered said in a tweet on Tuesday.
Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2 to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface.
Chandrayaan-3 consists of an indigenous propulsion module, lander module, and a rover with an objective of developing and demonstrating new technologies required for inter-planetary missions, according to ISRO.

Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2 to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface.
Built at a cost of around ₹615 crore, India's third lunar mission is aimed at achieving a successful landing of the lander on the moon's surface, followed by the deployment of a rover to carry out a range of experiments.
It has a lander and rover configuration. The propulsion module will carry the lander and rover configuration till the 100 km lunar orbit. It has a Spectro-Polarimetry of Habitable Planet Earth payload to study the spectral and polarimetric measurements of Earth from lunar orbit.&nbsp;
The Chandrayaan-3 will be India&rsquo;s second attempt to make a spacecraft land on the Moon. The Chandrayaan-2 mission, launched on July 22, 2019, had partially failed after its lander and rover crashed on the Moon during the early hours of September 6.&nbsp;
The United States, the Soviet Union and China are the only three nations which have successfully landed their spacecraft on the moon.&nbsp;
