The much-awaited trailer of Imtiaz Ali&rsquo;s film &lsquo;Amar Singh Chamkila&rsquo;, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, was unveiled at a grand event in Mumbai.&nbsp;
Scheduled for release on April 13, the film offers a glimpse into the life of Punjab's original rockstar, Amar Singh Chamkila. Shot in real locations, it immerses viewers into the vibrant world of Punjab's folk music, particularly the rustic Akhadaas where Chamkila's voice once resonated. Parineeti Chopra portrays Amarjot, Chamkila's wife and singing partner, in the film.
After the trailer dropped, social media erupted with excitement as users eagerly anticipated the film. Some predicted it to be a blockbuster, while others couldn't wait to see Diljit in action.
Talking about the film, Imtiaz Ali said, &lsquo;I could not have asked for better actors than the immensely talented Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra to play in this film, especially since it involves some live singing. The film follows the crazed popularity of Chamkila&rsquo;s daring songs that society could neither ignore nor swallow.&rsquo;
Parineeti Chopra added, &lsquo;It is a privilege to play Amarjot, Chamkila&rsquo;s singing partner and wife in this incredible film and I am truly grateful to Imtiaz sir for this opportunity. Sharing the screen with Diljit has been an immensely enriching experience. For me, singing is a passion, and collaborating with the legendary AR Rahman has been a long-awaited dream.&rsquo;
Earlier, in an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Imtiaz talked about getting Diljit and Parineeti on board when he explained why it was important for him to cast actors who are also singers.
&lsquo;It was mandatory for me to cast actors who are singers as well. It was important for them to sing live. This film wouldn&rsquo;t have been possible without them. It&rsquo;s not like Diljit didn&rsquo;t train a lot like Parineeti did but he does live singing and is used to it. They both recorded the songs after singing them live. The reason behind this is that I&rsquo;ve never had singers singing live during a shot. I thought that in case, the live singing doesn&rsquo;t work out, we can always use the recorded version and use it as playback like we usually do,&rsquo; he said.

&lsquo;Chamkila&rsquo;s makers have dropped the first song of the film, &lsquo;Ishq Mitaye&rsquo; on February 29. &nbsp;
Taking to Instagram, Saregama India shared the song and captioned the post, "Mere agge duniya ka rang saara fikka, Apne lahu se hi lagaaya maine tikka..MAIN HOON PANJAB!"&nbsp;
The song is penned by Irshad Kamil and sung by Mohit Chauhan. It is composed by AR Rahman.
Times of India quoted AR Rahman as saying, "When you make a story about a musician from Punjab, in such a musically rich state of India, it's always something special. So, Imtiaz and I decided to give our take on the storytelling musical and give it a twist, like a Broadway musical in certain parts. I loved how Imtiaz reinvented himself in the story. Working with Diljit was a pleasure; he is humble yet has a very colorful personality, and I love his growth as a musician, an artist, and an actor, and working with Parineeti Chopra as a singer was also really enjoyable. She was such a delight to work with. And of course, our amazing Irshad Kamil always comes with great lyrics. It is great to be a part of this project."&nbsp;
Director Imtiaz Ali said, "It was very exciting to see Rahman sir dive into the heart of Panjabi music in Chamkila. We could not find a better muse to explore the vivacious and heart-wrenching landscape of Panjabi music than Amar Singh Chamkila, the highest record-selling artist of Panjab.&rdquo;&nbsp;
&lsquo;Amar Singh Chamkila&rsquo; is the untold true story of Punjab's original rockstar. Amar Singh rose to popularity with his strong music in the 80&rsquo;s. This angered some people and because of this he was assassinated when he was 27.&nbsp; &nbsp;
