The CBSE reading comprehension was part of a class 10 english paper and offered an explanation on how children are no longer effectively disciplined in households, due to lack of obedience by mothers, and diminishing patriarchal control in homes.
Images of the exam paper went viral over the weekend, with many expressing strong displeasure at the curriculum being taught to the children. The hashtag &ldquo;CBSE insults women&rdquo; was trending on twitter, with many calling out the board for being regressive.
Fresh on the poll promise of empowerment for women, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also took to Twitter to express her disappointment at the exam paper asking &ldquo;are we really teaching our children this drivel?&rdquo; Rahul Gandhi too expressed his contempt at the paper and said &ldquo;Hard work pays, Bigotry doesn&rsquo;t" Congress President Sonia Gandhi&nbsp; also brought up the objectionable passage in the Lok Sabha (SOT)
The backlash has prompted the national school board to refer the matter to subject experts. However this incident forces us to ask the question, how are young minds being shaped by our curriculum? This is clearly not the first time when textbooks or papers have had objectionable material. Textbooks have in the past shown sports as being a purely male bastion, or furthering Eurocentric standards of beauty. Problematic fairy tales, nursery rhymes, toys - are all guilty of shaping the way children look at the world.
When early socialisation plays such an pivotal role in sculpting world views, viewing the material that we give children from a more sensitised and critical lens is slowly becoming the need of the hour.

The wait is finally over for 14 lakh students in the country. The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced the results on its website, and this year the board has clocked in a a record high pass percentage.
Almost all students have cleared class 12 results. Of the 13,04,561 candidates who registered, 99.37% have cleared the examination. Over 1.5 lakh students have got marks above 90, which is about 11.1%. About 5.37% of students gave got more than 95% marks in CBSE. So while the number of 90% scorers is roughly the same as last year, but the number of students in 95-100% bracket is almost double.
Girls have done better than boys. The pass percentage among girls si at 99.67% while among boys it is at 99.13%. Even though the results for both girls and boys is over 99%, girls have performed slightly better (0.54%) than boys.
This is the first time that CBSE has declared results without holding any board exams, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, class 12 results have been computed based on the performance of students in class 12 internals, class 10 finals, and class 11 finals.

The schools will form eight-member result committees by May 5. The provision for school-wise distribution of marks as well as finalisation of rationale document will happen by May 10.
For candidates who have not appeared in enough tests through the year, the schools will conduct online or telephonic assessment for them by May 15 and will have to finalise the result by May 25, officials said.
The board said that the marks will have to be submitted to the CBSE by June 11 and the result will be declared by June 20.
