In December last year, Uttar Pradesh had drawn up a list of leaders against whom cases were being withdrawn. The list included three BJP MLAs -- Sangeet Som, Suresh Rana, Kapil Dev - and right-wing leader Sadhvi Prachi.
In March this year, cases against 12 BJP leaders, including Rana and Som, and Sadhvi Prachi were dropped with the assent of a special court.
On August 10, the Supreme Court had ordered that state prosecutors cannot withdraw criminal cases against lawmakers without prior sanction from high courts.

China's health authority has confirmed the detection and isolation of living novel coronavirus on the outer packaging of imported frozen marine fish in the port city of Qingdao. It has been described as the first detection of its kind on the cold food chain in the world. The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Saturday said the finding was made during an investigation to trace the source of recent infections reported in Qingdao. In July, China had suspended imports of frozen shrimp after the deadly virus was found on packages and the inner wall of a container.

Beijing, PTI: China's health authority has confirmed the detection and isolation of living novel coronavirus on the outer packaging of imported frozen marine fish in the port city of Qingdao. It has been described as the first detection of its kind on the cold food chain in the world.
The authorities in Qingdao, where a new cluster of Covid-19 cases were reported recently, conducted tests on all of its about 11 million population. No new clusters of cases were found after the tests, the local authorities said.
In July, China suspended imports of frozen shrimp after the deadly virus was found on packages and the inner wall of a container. The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Saturday said it detected and isolated the living novel coronavirus on the outer packaging of imported frozen cod(large marine fish) in Qingdao.
The finding was made during an investigation to trace the source of recent infections reported in the city. It has proved that contact with packaging contaminated by living novel coronavirus could lead to infection, state-run Xinhua news agency reported, quoting the CDC statement.
The statement, however, did not mention the country from where the package was imported. It is the first time in the world that living novel coronavirus has been isolated from the outer packaging of cold-chain food, the statement said.
The agency said the risk of cold-chain food circulating in China's market being contaminated by the novel coronavirus is very low, citing recent nucleic acid test results for samples taken from the business.
A total of 2.98 million samples had been tested across the country's 24 provincial-level regions by September 15, including 670,000 taken from cold-chain food or food packaging, 1.24 million from working staff and 1.07 million from the environment.
Only 22 samples from cold-chain food or food packaging tested positive for the virus, the CDC said.
Meanwhile, the National Health Commission on Sunday said 13 confirmed Covid-19 cases, all arriving from outside the mainland, were reported on Saturday.

PTI,&nbsp;Islamabad: Pakistan has imposed mini smart lockdowns in several cities after a surge in the COVID-19 positivity rate, a senior minister said on Sunday, amid fears of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
On Sunday, Pakistan reported 666 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of infections to 318,932, according to the Ministry of National Health Services.
Minister for Planning Asad Umar in a post on Twitter said that mini lockdowns have been imposed in some cities after &ldquo;positivity rate crossed 2 per cent after remaining below 2 per cent for six weeks&rdquo;.
Positivity rate is the percentage of positive results out of the total number of tests sampled.
Mini smart lockdowns have been imposed in Karachi, Islamabad and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
"Instructions have been issued to administrations across the country to ensure that precautionary measures are followed. But like in the past, success is impossible without the cooperation of the people," he said in the tweet.
Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood also asked people to follow guidelines and avoid big gatherings.
"Large public gatherings must not take place. These alone can unleash a second wave," he said.
According to the health ministry, Punjab province on Sunday confirmed 203 new COVID-19 cases. It was for the first time since August 15 that Punjab recorded more than 200 cases.
Sindh reported 140,131 cases, Punjab 100,687, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 38,329, Islamabad 17,296, Balochistan 15,520, Gilgit-Baltistan 3,924 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 3,045 cases.
The National Command and Control Centre (NCOC), the nerve centre to synergise and articulate unified national effort against COVID-19, on Thursday imposed restrictions on large-scale public gatherings in marriage halls after rise in the COVID-19 infections in recent weeks.
The restrictions have come ahead of a big rally announced by the opposition parties, under the banner Pakistan Democratic Movement, on October 16 at Gujranwala in Punjab province against the Imran Khan-led government.
However, the Opposition leaders have rejected the call to avoid big rallies.

The Union Health Ministry also said that India has scaled up its testing capacity from one crore in January to more than 7.7 crore in October, adding that India 'continues to occupy the top global position with the maximum number of recoveries'. India accounts for 21% of the global recovered cases, on the other hand, its share in the total cases stands at 18.6%, the govt said.

Covid-19 recoveries reach over 48.4 lakh with recovery rate of 82.14%

The total number of recoveries from Covid-19 surged to 48,49,584 on Saturday with 93,420 patients recuperating from the disease in a day, which is more than the number of fresh cases recorded during the same period, the union health ministry said.
With the recovery rate rising to 82.14%, the ministry said India has maintained its top global ranking in total recoveries with such high successive single-day numbers. The health ministry said that&nbsp;the gap between recovered and active cases is continuously widening and that&nbsp;recovered cases exceed the active cases by nearly 39 lakh. There are&nbsp;9,60,969 active coronavirus&nbsp;cases in&nbsp; India.&nbsp;

75% of Covid-19 cases in 24 hours are in 10 states: govt

The Health Ministry on Thursday said 75% of the 86,508 Covid-19 cases reported in a span of 24 hours in India, are concentrated in 10 states and Union territories, which include Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Chhattisgarh. Maharashtra continues to top this list, contributing more than 21,000 cases, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka with more than 7,000 and 6,000 coronavirus cases. India's Covid-19 recovery rate has meanwhile improved to 81.55% on September 24. About 13 states/UTs are also reporting higher number of new recoveries than new cases.
