Bengal will finally have its own regional cricket league - Bengal Pro T20 - which will follow IPL model but will be restricted to just players from the state.

The 'Bengal Pro T20' will follow the IPL model and its playing conditions but will not allow any "outstation cricketers, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly said

Bengal will finally have its own regional cricket league - Bengal Pro T20 - which will follow IPL model but will be restricted to just players from the state, the CAB announced on Tuesday.
The 21-day inaugural season will unfold in June with 8 men's and women's teams.
The 'Bengal Pro T20' will follow the IPL model and its playing conditions but will not allow any "outstation cricketers, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly said adding that "even the coaches from outside the state will not be allowed.
The men's league will be held at Eden Gardens, while Jadavpur University Second Campus at Salt Lake will host the women's matches.
Double headers will feature on all days. The men's team will have 17 players each, while women's team will have 16 players each.
"All the eight teams will be franchises-owned, which will be a first (in regional T20 leagues). We have still not finalised the franchises, which will be announced at a later date.
"The teams will be completely owned by franchises and all players will be paid as per the salary cap. CAB will not incur any expense for the league," the CAB president added.
It is learnt that the CAB are in talks with Kolkata Knight Riders, the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group (Lucknow Super Giants), Bandhan Bank, Shrachi Group and Rashmi Cement among others for the eight franchises.
The CAB had a regional T20 tournament back in 2020-21, but it failed to generate response and had to be stopped after one season.
Since then may states have launched their own T20 leagues to catch the attention of IPL spotters.
As of now, there have been more than a dozen regional T20 leagues in India, with the oldest being the KPL (Maharaja Trophy T20) of Karnataka, while Tamil Nadu's TNPL being the most popular.
"For long there had been criticism that Bengal cricketers were not getting opportunities like the ones from Tamil Nadu or Karnataka. This will be the answer to it. Bengal has a lot of talent but they did not have a proper platform till now. This will be a perfect launch pad for them," Snehasish added

The school students were on their way to appear in the board examination when the driver lost control of the vehicle, they said.

Fourteen people including some school students were injured when an overcrowded cab they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir&rsquo;s Poonch district on Sunday, officials said.
The accident happened near Keri Galhuta village of Mendhar around 10.30 am, they said.
The school students were on their way to appear in the board examination when the driver lost control of the vehicle, they said.
A rescue operation was immediately launched and the injured were shifted to a hospital.
Two girls -- Zahira and Rukhsana -- suffered serious injuries and were later referred to Government Medical College, Rajouri for specialised treatment, the officials said.
A case has been registered and further investigation is on, they said.

 Ganguly served as the CAB president from 2015 to 2019 before he became the BCCI President. With BCCI's AGM set to take place on October 18, 1983 World Cup-winning all-rounder Roger Binny is set to replace Ganguly at the helm.

This reportedly annoyed him as the decision was not taken with his consultation. Following this, the 37-year-old exited the team's WhatsApp group and informed about his decision to not participate in Ranji Trophy. Dalmiya said that the management tried its best to convince him. However, Saha has made up his mind to not play for Bengal again, he added. While the wicket-keeper batter is yet to ask for the no-objection certificate from the state association, the CAB president said that it will be given to him, whenever he asks for it. This might turn out to be the end of Saha's Ranji Trophy career. Saha who made his debut in 2007 has played 122 first-class and 102 List A matches.Bengal will play their Ranji quarterfinal on June 6 against Jharkhand.

Auto and taxi drivers in Delhi have decided to go on a two-day strike from Monday as they protest against the rising fuel prices.
Even as Maharashtra saw a strike from Ola and Uber taxi drivers.
Cab drivers' unions have been demanding a hike in fare rates and a reduction in CNG prices.
The unions have refused to call of their strike despite an announcement by the Delhi government to form a committee to consider fare revision in a time-bound manner.
General secretary of the Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh, Rajendra Soni, said the "unprecedented" hike in rates of CNG has taken a toll auto and cab drivers.
"We know that the Delhi government is forming some committee but we need solutions to our problems which is not in sight. We are demanding that the government (Centre and Delhi) provide Rs 35 per kg subsidy on CNG prices," he said.
Hundreds of auto, taxi and cab drivers staged a protest at the Delhi Secretariat recently demanding subsidy on CNG prices.
There are over 90,000 autos and more than 80,000 registered taxis complementing the public transport system in the city.
The price of CNG is currently Rs 71.61 per kg in Delhi.
