Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, August 14 (PTI) - Thirty passengers were injured when a private double-decker bus overturned on the Lucknow-Ayodhya highway, police reported on Thursday.
The accident took place late Wednesday night as the bus traveled from Gorakhpur to Delhi.
According to police accounts, the driver of the sleeper bus lost control, leading to the vehicle overturning on the highway near Dharouli village. The chaos that ensued was quickly met with aid as nearby villagers rushed to the scene, hearing the distress calls of the trapped passengers.
Police and administration officials arrived shortly after being notified of the incident. It took about an hour to rescue all injured passengers, who were then transported to Ram Sanehi Ghat Community Health Centre (CHC).
CHC Superintendent Dr. Amresh Verma confirmed that 30 passengers received treatment at the facility. Two passengers in critical condition were transferred to the district hospital.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Anurag Singh and Circle Officer Jatashankar Mishra reported employing a JCB machine to move the bus and resume traffic on the affected highway stretch.
Additional Superintendent of Police Vikas Chandra Tripathi reassured that no fatalities occurred during the incident.
The administration acted swiftly to deliver medical attention and maintain highway traffic flow. Heavy rain and slippery roads were identified as factors in the crash, prompting officials to advise caution for passengers and locals alike.

Senior Manipur Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh on Tuesday demanded that the "competent authority" who ordered the removal of the state's name from a government bus must apologise to the people of the state.
The Congress Legislative Party leader also termed as "embarrassing" the act of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla taking a helicopter to reach Raj Bhavan from Imphal Airport on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event marking the 61st death anniversary of former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru at Congress Bhavan, he said, "It is very unlikely that without orders from a competent authority, personnel of the Mahar regiment of the Indian Army would ask the staffers to cover the name of Manipur on a government bus." "That competent authority may be the governor, the DGP or the security advisor... whoever that is should politely admit the mistake to the people before any further damage is done," he added.
Manipur's name has been in existence for centuries before its merger with India in 1949. The respected governor and other competent authorities must understand this, he asserted.
"Who gave the order?" the former three-times chief minister questioned.
"The uniformed personnel have come to the state to aid the civil administration in law and order issues. But if the personnel of the Mahar regiment acted on their own, why no action has been taken against them?" the Thoubal MLA asked.
Protests erupted in Manipur after security personnel asked staffers of a government bus carrying journalists to attend Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul on May 20 to cover the state's name on the vehicle.
"Yesterday, the governor took a helicopter ride for just a few kilometres to reach Raj Bhavan from Imphal Airport... this is embarrassing. The road does not pass through jungles but through areas inhabited by ordinary civilians," the Congress leader added.
As Bhalla reached Imphal from Delhi on Monday afternoon, he took a helicopter from the airport to reach Kangla Fort, around 300 metres from Raj Bhavan as protesters had formed a human chain along the 6-km route from the airport to the governor&rsquo;s house demanding an apology for the May 20 incident.
Ibobi Singh also called the ruling party MLAs as being irresponsible for not forming the government despite having sufficient numbers.
"Let them gather at the Raj Bhavan and tell the governor that they want to form the government," he asserted.
Also, till now no attempts have been made to reach a solution to the crisis in the state, he added.
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and adjoining hills-based Kukis in Manipur since May, 2023.

A bus of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has been caught on camera running with the outer covering of its rooftop getting detached from one side and fluttering in the air, prompting the authorities to initiate a probe into it.
The bus was plying in Gadchiroli district of the state, an official said, adding a staffer responsible for the maintenance of vehicles was suspended.
A video of the bus went viral on social media on Wednesday.
When contacted, MSRTC vice chairman and managing director Shekhar Channe told PTI that the bus belongs to the Aheri depot in Gadchiroli district.
"A probe has been ordered into the incident. Action is being taken against the officer concerned," he said.
Another MSRTC official said an officer of the mechanical engineering department in Gadchiroli has been suspended for being responsible for the poor maintenance of the bus.
The bus was plying on the Gadchiroli-Aheri route and the entire rooftop of the vehicle did not come out, but only the outer fibre portion above the driver's cabin was broken and fluttered in the air while the bus was running on the highway, he said.
The external aluminium rooftop portion over the passengers' cabin and the inner layer of the rooftop of the entire bus was intact, the official said.
"The crew of the bus and passengers were unaware about the broken rooftop. After people from some other vehicle pointed it out to the bus crew members, the latter asked them to shoot a video," he said.
State Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar did not respond to a query on whether any action would be taken in this connection by the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
The MSRTC is one of the biggest public transport bodies in the country with more than 15,000 buses in its fleet. It ferries around 60 lakh passengers everyday.
A union leader in the MSRTC claimed the condition of state transport buses is bad due to poor maintenance, especially after the pandemic, and several passengers face troubles due to leaking buses.&nbsp;
