Rajya Sabha proceedings were disrupted on Monday amid uproar by Opposition members over skyrocketing fuel prices in the country.
Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjuna Kharge gave a notice for suspension of business to discuss "huge and frequent increase in prices of petrol, diesel and LPG even when global prices are ruling low."
Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu did not allow the discussion and kept asking members to go back to their seats and not deprive members from the Question Hour. However, Opposition members kept shouting.
The second part of the Budget session of Parliament began on Monday and is scheduled to conclude on April 8.

The Opposition is gearing up to corner the government over various issues, including the farmers' agitation and economic crisis as the Budget Session of Parliament resumes on Monday. It is the first day of Mallikarjun Kharge as Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabh since his appointment on the post after the retirement of Ghulam Nabi Azad. A day before the start of the Budget Session of Parliament, 16 opposition parties led by the Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena and the TMC&nbsp;had decided to boycott the President's address to the joint sitting of Parliament in solidarity with the farmers protesting the new farm laws.

Rajya Sabha will sit from 9 am to 2 pm, and Lok Sabha from 4 pm to 9 pm. The Union Budget will be presented at 11 am on February 1 in Lok Sabha.

During the monsoon session held during the Covid pandemic, which was cut short, each house sat for four hours and had no question hour. Private Members&rsquo; business, which usually takes place on Friday afternoons, was not taken up during the monsoon session and has made a comeback in the budget session.
