The grapplers also thanked those who have come out in support of their fight, stating they will not back down this time around.

In a media interaction, Rio Olympics Bronze medallist Sakshi Malik said that seven female wrestlers have made a sexual harassment charge against federation president Brij Bhushan Sharan.

Sakshi Malik: "We want the report, which contains the statement of the female wrestlers, to be made public. One of the complainants is a juvenile girl; therefore, it's a sensitive topic."

In a media interaction, Rio Olympics Bronze medallist Sakshi Malik said that seven female wrestlers have made a sexual harassment charge against federation president Brij Bhushan Sharan at the Connaught Place police station in Central Delhi.
However, Malik also stated that First Information Report (FIR) based on the complaint has not yet been submitted. The wrestlers also said they are disappointed that a government panel report on the matter has not yet been made public.&nbsp;
"We want the report, which contains the statement of the female wrestlers, to be made public. One of the complainants is a juvenile girl; therefore, it's a sensitive topic," she said, adding that the names of the complainants must not be revealed.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is awaiting a report by a government panel on the sexual harassment allegations against him, confirmed that he will not contest for the president's post in the WFI election 

At its Emergency General Council and Executive Committee meeting, chaired by Secretary General VN Prasood, the Wrestling Federation of India announced the election schedule.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is awaiting a report by a government panel on the sexual harassment allegations against him, confirmed on Sunday that he will not contest for the president's post in the WFI election on May 7 but hinted that he might look for a new role within the federation.
At its Emergency General Council and Executive Committee meeting, chaired by Secretary General VN Prasood, the Wrestling Federation of India announced the election schedule.
While talking to PTI, Brij Bhushan said he will follow the Sports Code and not contest for the president's post.&nbsp;
But Brij Bhusan also stated that he would contest the elections for other posts given he can be part of the five-member WFI Executive Committee.&nbsp;

Brij Bhushan has already served three four-year terms as president in a row and according to the Sports Code after completing 12 years as WFI chief, he is ineligible to contest for the top post.
And by the time his cooling-off period ends in 2027, he would have attained the age of 70, which also makes him ineligible for the top post according to the Sports code.

The MC Mary Kom-led panel that was earlier asked to submit its report in 4 weeks, has been given another 2-week extension and will now submit its report by March 9.&nbsp;
The committee responsible for the day-to-day functioning of WFI was formed after a sit-in protest by top Indian wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia &amp; Sakshi Malik, who were demanding the removal of Singh as the federation's president.
Since the formation of the committee, the top Indian wrestlers have not competed at the international meets, missing the Ranking Series events in Zagreb and Alexandria.
Meanwhile, wrestling's governing body UWW has reportedly taken away the hosting rights of the Asian Championship from India, citing a complaint from the top wrestlers.&nbsp;

The clamour over Yogeshwar Dutt's presence in the Oversight Committee grew after his coach Ramphal Mann allegedly revealed confidential details about the ongoing probe during a sting operation by a news channel.&nbsp; Bajrang Punia, who was one of the wrestlers protesting against the WFI president Brij Bhushan at the Jantar Mantar last month has once again slammed the 40-year-old Olympic Bronze medallist's participation in the committee.&nbsp; Demanding a resignation from Dutt, Punia told the Indian Express, 'He has no moral right to remain in the committee as he does not believe in confidentiality. This is a sensitive matter related to women wrestlers, and each one of them has shown the courage to come forward and talk. But instead of trying to understand the sensitive nature of the issue, Yogeshwar seems to be keen to belittle them. The government is unhappy with the behaviour of the wrestlers after they openly expressed their disappointment over the formation of the oversight committee, Sports Ministry sources said. &nbsp; The source told PTI that the ministry has no plans to reconstitute the 5 member oversight committee which will probe the allegations against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh and overlook the day-to-day activity of WFI.
As per reports, the protesting wrestlers consider the London Olympics bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt, one of the members of the committee, close to the WFI president.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia, however, later clarified that while the grapplers wanted a member of their choice on the committee, they don't have an issue with Yogeshwar. They expected to be consulted before the members were finalised, he added.

After a marathon 7-hour meeting with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, protesting wrestlers called off their agitation against WFI President Brijbhushan Singh.

Protesting wrestlers called off their agitation late on Friday night after a marathon 7-hour meeting with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.
In a joint press conference held by Thakur and the protesting grapplers, Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia announced that they are calling off their protest after assurances from the government.&nbsp; "The protest is over. We did not want to sit on dharna but 'paani sar se ooper chala gaya tha'. The government has assured us safety and security, we have been threatened by the WFI president in the past also," Bajrang said.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur confirmed to the press that an oversight committee will be formed that'll investigate the allegations against WFI President Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.
He said, "It has been decided that an oversight committee will be formed, names for which will be announced tomorrow. The committee will complete its investigation within four weeks. It will thoroughly probe all the allegations be it financial or sexual harassment that has been levelled against WFI and its chief."&nbsp;
Thakur also said that Singh will step aside and cooperate with the investigation.
"Till the investigation is over, he (Singh) will step aside and cooperate with the investigation and the oversight committee will run the day-to-day affairs of WFI," Thakur added.

In its response to the Sports Ministry regarding allegations against its president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, WFI deemed the protest a 'hidden, personal agenda' of the wrestlers.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has rejected all the allegations, including that of sexual harassment against its president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.
In a letter written to the Sports Ministry, the wrestling body said the protest at Jantar Mantar was a 'personal, hidden agenda' of wrestlers.
'The protest is not in the best interest of the Wrestlers nor for promoting good Wrestling in India, but it has some personal as well as hidden agenda to dislodge the current fairest and strict management of WFI,' the wrestling body said in its response to the Sports Ministry.
Responding to the charges of mismanagement, WFI wrote they 'are managed by an elected body as per its constitution, and therefore, there is no scope for arbitrariness and mismanagement in WFI by anyone individually, including the president.'
The WFI sent its reply on Friday evening after being asked by the sports ministry to respond to the allegations within 72 hours.

After days of protests by star wrestlers in the national capital, President of the Wrestling Federation of India called a press conference on 20 January 2023.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is also a BJP MP, said he would address the media at 4 pm at a wrestling training centre in Nawabganj, Uttar Pradesh. He has been accused of sexually harassing women wrestlers.
In a Facebook post, Singh said that he will expose a "political conspiracy" being hatched against the sport of wrestling. He added that he would expose those "playing with the honour of women wrestlers".
Singh's declaration came a day after protesting wrestlers met Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. They refused to back down from their demand that the government immediately disband the Wrestling Federation of India.
The marathon meeting began around 10 pm on 19 January, the second day of the wrestlers' protest against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The wrestlers left Thakur's house at 1:45 am and did not speak to the reporters waiting outside.

3-time CWG Gold medallist Vinesh Phogat stated that more women wrestlers have come out alleging sexual harassment by WFI President Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.&nbsp;
"5-6 women have been sexually harassed by WFI President. We have proof," Vinesh said.
Olympic bronze medallists Bajrang Punia &amp; Sakshi Malik also demanded that WFI President be sent to jail.
"His resignation is not enough, he has to go to jail. We will lodge an FIR if he is not punished," Malik said.
Approximately 200 wrestlers who had gathered at the protest site also want the current federation to be dissolved.&nbsp;
"This administration cannot exist any longer. It should be dissolved and a new federation should be set up," Bajrang told the press.

Following protests by star wrestlers in the national capital, the Opposition Congress party criticised the Narendra Modi government.

Congress also demanded an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), monitored by the Supreme Court.
In a tweet in Hindi, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "Our players are the pride of the country. They bring laurels to the country by their performance at the world level." The players have made serious allegations of exploitation against the Wrestling Federation and its president and their voices should be heard, she said.
In a tweet in Hindi, Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said, "The list of BJP leaders who have committed atrocities on daughters is endless. Was 'Beti Bachao' a warning to save daughters from BJP leaders! Prime Minister, please answer."
"Mr Prime Minister, why are all those who commit atrocities on daughters from the BJP," he asked.
