Breastfeeding week is celebrated every year from the 1st of August to the 7th. It is celebrated annually and this year it will focus on breastfeeding and employment/work. It will showcase the impact of paid leave, workplace support and emerging parenting norms on breastfeeding through the lens of parents themselves.&nbsp;
Breastfeeding is a natural process, but alot of mothers have to face difficulty after giving birth to feed their babies. Breast milk is sometimes not produced naturally in some new mothers and they need help and assistance from experts. New mothers are advised to take suggestions and see doctors if they face such problems.
Speaking with Editorji, Dr. Ashima Gulia, Senior consultant obstetrics and gynaecologist at Cloudnine Hospital, told, that every mother should practice breast feeding and prepare themselves during the pregnancy period even before the breastfeeding journey begins.&nbsp;
<h3>Here are 3 important tips shared by Dr. Ashima Gulia that will help new moms to have a comfortable breastfeeding experience.&nbsp;</h3>
1. According to her the first one hour right after the delivery is absolutely crucial. It is also called the golden hour.&nbsp;
2. Dr. Gulia suggests taking help of a lactating consultant in case the mother faces difficulty during the process of breast feeding.&nbsp;
3. The doctor advises drinking a glass of water after every feed and creating a nursing section near the mother.&nbsp;

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated from 1st August to 7th August every year. The week aims at commemorating the Innocenti Declaration of 1990 which was an effort by the World Health Organisation and UNICEF to protect, promote and support breastfeeding for sustainable development.
First observed in 1992 the breastfeeding week has a different theme every year. The theme for 2021 is &ldquo;Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility.&rdquo; Through this theme, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) aims at drawing attention towards the need for efforts and investments from all levels of society in order to protect human milk feeding. WABA has also highlighted that scaling up breastfeeding can help prevent 20,000 maternal deaths and 8,23,000 child deaths annually.
Breastfeeding can help equip a baby with a good and healthy start to life. As per the Innocenti Declaration, it also improves health as it reduces the incidence and severity of infectious diseases. As for women&rsquo;s health, it helps reduce the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
But successful breastfeeding needs support from one&rsquo;s family, healthcare workers and also the community. Governments the world over must invest to make breastfeeding counseling available for both women and healthcare workers. The need of the hour is to quickly draw up and promote strategies to support breastfeeding.
