The incident comes days after an Indian-origin teenager Mehakpreet Sethi was stabbed to death by another teenager in a high school parking lot in Canada's British Columbia province.

A 21-year-old Canadian-Sikh woman has been shot dead, in an apparent "targeted" killing in Canada's Ontario province, according to the police.
The victim, identified as Pawanpreet Kaur from Brampton, was fatally shot by an unidentified assailant on the night of December 3 in Mississauga city of Ontario province, according to a press release by the Peels Regional Police on Sunday.
According to the Toronto Sun newspaper, Kaur was shot outside a gas station.
Police received information about a woman being shot at around 10:39 pm, and located the victim with apparent gunshot wounds upon arrival at the scene. Life-saving measures were attempted however the victim succumbed to her injuries, as per police.

The police believe it to be a "targeted" incident.
Little information was provided about the suspect with the killer not been identified yet.

Navjit Kaur Brar, an Indo-Canadian healthcare worker has reportedly become the first turban-wearing Sikh woman to be elected to public office in Canada. The election took place on 24 October 2022.
Brar, a respiratory therapist, was called a "phenomenal addition to Brampton City Council" by Mayor Patrick Brown, who won a second term in the recent election. Brar had previously run as the Ontario NDP candidate in Brampton West, and had lost to the current Progressive Conservative MPP Amarjot Sandhu.
As many as 40 Punjabis were in the fray for Brampton civic elections, as per reports. Brar focused on three areas in her campaign - building new infrastructure, reducing crime, and improving road safety.

The latest incident involved vandalism at a park name Shri Bhagavad Gita Park in Canada's Brampton. On 28 September 2022, the park was renamed from Troyers Park to Shri Bhagavad Gita Park after the Hindu religious tome.
The Indian High Commission in Canada condemned the "hate crime", and urged Canadian authorities to take action. Just weeks earlier, on 13 September, the BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Toronto had been vandalised with anti-India graffiti.
After the latest incident, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said that there is "zero tolerance" for such crimes, and the Peel Regional Police is investigating the incident.
In September, India had issued an advisory to its citizens in Canada over increased hate crimes.
