Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday rejected claims that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had entered into post-poll alliances with rivals Congress and AIMIM in municipal councils, warning that action would be taken against leaders involved.
Following the December civic polls, reports emerged that the BJP had joined hands with the Congress and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) under the banner of &lsquo;Ambernath Vikas Aghadi&rsquo; to form leadership in the Ambernath Municipal Council, sidelining ally Shiv Sena. Similarly, in Akot Municipal Council in Akola district, the BJP reportedly formed an alliance with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and several other parties.
However, CM Fadnavis made it clear that such arrangements were not sanctioned by the party&rsquo;s senior leadership. &ldquo;I am making it very clear that any alliance with the Congress or the AIMIM will not be accepted. If any local leader has taken such a decision on their own, it is wrong in terms of discipline and action will be taken,&rdquo; he said, adding that instructions had already been issued to undo such alliances.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut criticised the BJP, saying, &ldquo;What happened in Akot and Ambernath shows frivolous behaviour of the BJP. The party can forge an alliance with anyone to grab power.&rdquo; Notably, BJP, Ajit Pawar-led NCP, and Eknath Shinde&rsquo;s Shiv Sena remain allies in the state&rsquo;s Mahayuti government.
In Ambernath, the BJP reportedly secured a post-poll understanding with Congress and NCP, together claiming a majority of 31 seats, despite Shiv Sena emerging as the single largest party with 27 councillors. BJP councillor Tejashree Karanjule Patil was elected Ambernath Municipal Council president on Wednesday, defeating Sena&rsquo;s Manisha Walekar. The election for the vice-president is scheduled soon.
CM Fadnavis emphasised that such alliances would not be tolerated and that disciplinary action would be taken against local leaders who defied party directions. &ldquo;Any local leader who went ahead with such alliances has acted against organisational discipline and will face consequences,&rdquo; he said.
In Akot, the BJP formed the &lsquo;Akot Vikas Manch&rsquo; with AIMIM and support from multiple parties, including both factions of Shiv Sena, NCP, and Prahar Janshakti Party. The BJP won 11 of the 35 council seats, with AIMIM securing five. Maya Dhule of BJP was elected mayor, while Ravi Thakur was appointed group leader. The alliance&rsquo;s strength stands at 25 councillors, while Congress and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi remain in opposition.
Despite these local arrangements, CM Fadnavis reiterated that BJP&rsquo;s central leadership does not approve of post-poll alliances with Congress or AIMIM, stressing party discipline and warning that corrective steps had been initiated.

The BJP on Monday said the Supreme Court order denying bail to activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the 2020 Delhi riots case is a "big slap" on the Congress' face and demanded that the opposition party apologise for supporting the "tukde-tukde gang".
Calling Khalid and Imam the "poster boys" of divisive forces in India, the BJP claimed that the Congress ecosystem was projecting them as "innocent victims" to protect them.
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant bail to Khalid and Imam in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case, saying there was a prima facie case against them under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria, however, granted bail to activists Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shifa Ur Rehman, Mohd Saleem Khan, and Shadab Ahmad in the case.
Reacting to the Supreme Court decision, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla wrote on X, "Satyameva Jayate (truth alone triumphs)".

The BJP on Wednesday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to the state, alleging dictatorship and repeated attacks on democracy in Bengal.

The BJP on Wednesday criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a visit to the state, and alleged that she has been running a "tanasahi" (dictatorship).
Addressing a press conference Bhubaneswar, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra alleged that Banerjee, while addressing a public meeting in Bankura district, threatened the Home Minister of India that she "allowed" him to come out of the hotel where he was staying in Kolkata.
Patra said, &ldquo;Mamata Banerjee has threatened the Home Minister of India in words which cannot even be thought of. We have seen it. She said that you (Shah) are hiding in a hotel. If we want, you cannot step out of the hotel. You are lucky that we allowed you to come out of the hotel.&rdquo;
Claiming that she had done this "for the sake of infiltrators", he asserted that it is not only a threat to the Union home minister, but also to the entire population of the country.
"You (Banerjee) are not just threatening Amit Shah; you are threatening India," Patra said, adding that this is not the first time that such an incident has happened in West Bengal.
"Our party president JP Nadda&rsquo;s cavalcade was attacked during the previous elections by infiltrators,&rdquo; the Puri MP said.
Patra asserted that Shah has raised issues such as corruption, injustice, and especially the politics surrounding infiltrators in West Bengal.
He also alleged that around 300 BJP activists were killed in West Bengal by goons of the TMC, while 3,000 others had to flee their homes.
"This is Hitler-sahi and tanasahi,&rdquo; Patra alleged. &ldquo;There have been attacks on democracy in Bengal. This is happening in a state which led the country all along. Bengal is now destroyed by Mamata Banerjee,&rdquo; he said.
Patra alleged that the Trinamool Congress supremo has a problem with the names of infiltrators being removed from the electoral rolls.
&ldquo;Mamata Banerjee is threatening the Home Minister of the country for the sake of infiltrators,&rdquo; he alleged.
BJP will form a government with a two-thirds majority in West Bengal, and the party is preparing for that, he said.
Patra said, &ldquo;West Bengal is for Indians and Bengalis, and not for infiltrators. Mamata Banerjee is not allotting land for fencing on the (international) border. She is more worried about infiltrators and Rohingyas than the state. Tunnels are constructed to bring infiltrators, and efforts are made to give them recognition. Once the BJP forms the government, each infiltrator would be identified and evicted.&rdquo;
Noting that Bengal has the history of leading the country on several fronts, Patra alleged that the state&rsquo;s economy, industrialisation and development has suffered a lot due to the &ldquo;appeasement&rdquo; politics of Banerjee.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the BJP is proposing "elimination of the Constitution" that grants equal rights to all and vowed to create a system of opposition's resistance that will succeed in removing the party from power.
Speaking at the Hertie School in Berlin last week, Gandhi also alleged that the BJP has launched a full-scale assault and has captured the institutional framework of the country to help use it as a tool for building its political power and that is what the Opposition is fighting against.
In an hour-long video released by the Congress on Monday, Gandhi said India's largest and complex democracy is a global asset and the "assault" on the Indian democratic system is also an attack on the global democratic system.
"What the BJP is proposing essentially is the elimination of the Constitution. Elimination of the idea of equality between states, elimination of the idea of equality between languages and religions, elimination of the idea of the central core of the Constitution which is that every individual will have the same value," the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha said to a group of students at the Hertie School.
In the video, 'Politics is the art of listening', Gandhi said, "We will create a method, a system of opposition resistance that will succeed. But, we're not fighting the BJP. You have to understand that we're fighting their capture of the Indian institutional structure."
Answering queries of students, Gandhi claimed that there is a weaponization of the institutional framework.
"We fundamentally believe that there is a problem with the electoral machinery in India. Second thing is that there is a wholesale capture of our institutional framework. There is a full-scale assault taking place on the institution framework of our country," he claimed.
He noted that there is an atmosphere in India where the institutions are not performing the role they should be performing.
Gandhi said while the Europeans struggled to build a European Union, India built an economic and political union in 1947, which was based on the Constitution.
"If you are going to have any conversation about democracy on the planet, you cannot ignore by far the largest and most complex democracy in the world. That is why I say Indian democracy is a global public good, it is not just an Indian asset, it is a global asset.
"So when I talk of the attack on the Indian democratic system, I don't say it but it is actually an attack not just on the Indian democratic system, it is an attack on the global democratic system," Gandhi observed.
The Congress leader was on a tour to Germany last week.

Before considering APJ Abdul Kalam for the eleventh presidential candidate of India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suggested Atal Bihari Vajpayee's name for the President's post and hand over the prime ministership to Lal Krishna Advani.
However, the then-prime minister refused, stating that his becoming President by virtue of his majority would set a wrong precedent.
Ashok Tandon, who served as Vajpayee's media advisor, related the episode in his book Atal Smaran, published by Prabhat Prakashan.
Kalam was elected the 11th President in 2002 with the support of both, then ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Opposition. He served in this position until 2007.
Tandon, who served as the ex-prime minister's media advisor from 1998 to 2004, writes that Vajpayee, on the other hand, flatly rejected his party's suggestion that he should move to Rashtrapati Bhavan and hand over the prime ministership to his second-in-command, Lal Krishna Advani.
According to Tandon, "Vajpayee was not ready for this. He believed that for any popular prime minister, becoming President by virtue of majority would not be a good sign for Indian parliamentary democracy. It would set a very wrong precedent, and he would be the last person to support such a move."
Tandon writes that Vajpayee invited leaders of the main opposition party, the Congress, so that a consensus could be built for the post of President. "I remember that Sonia Gandhi, Pranab Mukherjee, and Dr. Manmohan Singh came to meet him. Vajpayee officially revealed for the first time that the NDA had decided to nominate Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam as their candidate for the presidential election... There was a moment of silence in the meeting. Then Sonia Gandhi broke the silence and said that they were surprised by his choice, and that they had no option but to support him, but they would discuss his proposal and then make a decision," he says.
Tandon relates many other events that took place during Vajpayee's tenure as prime minister and about Vajpayee's relationships with several leaders. On the Atal-Advani duo, he writes that despite differences on some policy issues, the relationship between the two leaders never soured publicly. According to Tandon, Advani always referred to Atalji as "my leader and source of inspiration," and Vajpayee, in turn, addressed him as his "steadfast companion."
"The partnership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani has been a symbol of cooperation and balance in Indian politics. They not only built the BJP but also gave a new direction to both the party and the government," he writes.
When Parliament came under a terrorist attack on December 13, 2001, a phone conversation took place between Vajpayee and Sonia Gandhi, who was then the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. At the time of the attack, Vajpayee was at his residence and watching the security forces' operation on television with his colleagues. Tandon writes, "Suddenly, Congress President Sonia Gandhi called. She said, 'I'm worried about you, are you safe?' To this, Atalji replied, 'Sonia ji, I am safe, I was worried that you might be in the Parliament building... Take care of yourself.'"

He urged party workers to work patiently to strengthen the organisation.
Earlier in the day, Nabin, who is Bihar's PWD minister, pledged to carry forward the work of his late father and former BJP MLA Nabin Kishor Prasad Sinha.
He paid floral tributes to a statue of his father at a park in Patna.
"I have always worked on the ideas of my father, who considered the party as his mother and prioritised the nation over everything. I think that is the reason the party has blessed me with this opportunity to continue working with BJP workers," he said.
He also visited Patna's Mahavir Mandir to offer prayers.
Nabin was appointed on Sunday as the BJP national working president and is likely to eventually succeed JP Nadda as its national president, signalling a generational shift in the ruling party.
He expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and praised his leadership.
"Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, development has reached every town and village of the country. At the same time, Bharatiya Janata Party has also expanded its footprint and stands today as the party of the poor," he asserted.
Nabin emphasised that "no class in India today is left untouched" by the development schemes of the NDA government.
He claimed that the PM has taken the idea of 'Antyodaya' to every nook and corner of the country.
"Antyodaya was pioneered by personalities like Deendayal Upadhyaya and Syama Prasad Mookerjee, and promoted by Atal Bihari Vajpayee," Nabin said, adding that "now PM Modi has taken it to every village and town of the nation".
On the question of the party's strategy for the West Bengal elections, he said, "Be it Bengal, Assam or Uttar Pradesh, our party workers are always ready. This is the beauty of Bharatiya Janata Party. Others work during elections, but BJP karyakartas work 24x7."
Nabin, 45, is considered dynamic, ideologically rooted and deeply committed to the organisation, party leaders said.
He also comes from the RSS background.
A five-time MLA, Nabin represents Bankipur assembly constituency in Bihar and has served twice as a minister in the state government.

These civic body bypolls were a litmus test for the BJP, as they were its first big electoral battle after coming to power in Delhi in February this year.
BJP's Suman Kumar Gupta defeated Aam Aadmi Party candidate Harsh Sharma by a margin of 1,182 votes. The saffron party also comfortably won the Shalimar Bagh B ward, with Anita Jain defeating AAP's Babita Rana by a margin of over 10,000 votes. The Shalimar Bagh B ward was vacated after sitting BJP councillor Rekha Gupta won the assembly polls in February and became Delhi's chief minister.
AAP won the Mundka and Dakshinpuri wards, while Congress's Suresh Choudhary won the Sangam Vihar A ward by defeating BJP's Subhajeet Gautam. Choudhary polled 12,766 votes while his opponent managed to get 9,138 votes.
BJP's Veena Asija was locked in a close fight with AAP's Seema Goyal but surged ahead to win the Ashok Vihar ward by a margin of 405 votes.
All India Forward Bloc candidate Mohd Imran won the Chandni Mahal seat by defeating AAP's Mudassar Usman by a margin of 4,692 votes.
The BJP also won the Dichaon Kalan and Greater Kailash wards and the Dwarka-B ward, which was earlier held by its Kamaljeet Sehrawat. Sehrawat is now a BJP MP. The saffron party's Manisha Rani won the Dwarka-B ward by a comfortable margin of 9,100 votes against AAP's Raj Bala.
AAP's Rajan Arora won the Naraina seat by just 148 votes against the BJP's Chandrakanta Shivani.
The counting of votes for the MCD bypolls to 12 wards began at 8 am amid tight security. Of the 12 wards where voting was held on November 30, nine were earlier held by the BJP and the remaining by AAP.
The State Election Commission, Delhi, had set up 10 counting centres, one each at Kanjhawala, Pitampura, Bharat Nagar, Civil Lines, Rouse Avenue, Dwarka, Najafgarh, Gole Market, Pushp Vihar and Mandawali.
The strong rooms where the EVMs are stored after polling were secured with adequate security measures, including round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and the deployment of paramilitary and Delhi Police personnel.
The vote percentage in the bypolls was 38.51 per cent as compared to 50.47 per cent in the MCD elections held for 250 wards in 2022.

The counting of votes for the MCD bypolls to 12 wards began at 8 am, amid tight security at 10 counting centres in Delhi. Gupta defeated Aam Aadmi Party candidate Harsh Sharma by a margin of 1,182 votes.
The BJP was leading in Dichaon Kalan, Greater Kailash, Shalimar Bagh B wards, while AAP was ahead in the Naraina ward in the initial trends.
Of the 12 wards where voting was held on November 30, nine were earlier held by the BJP and the remaining by AAP.
The State Election Commission, Delhi, has set up 10 counting centres at Kanjhawala, Pitampura, Bharat Nagar, Civil Lines, Rouse Avenue, Dwarka, Najafgarh, Gole Market, Pushp Vihar and Mandawali.
The strong rooms where the EVMs are stored after polling were secured with adequate security measures, including round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and the deployment of paramilitary and Delhi Police personnel. Nearly 1,800 Delhi Police personnel and 10 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed. Around 700 personnel have been deployed for counting, and facilities have been provided for the candidates and their authorised counting agents, it added.
The vote percentage in the bypolls was 38.51 per cent as compared to 50.47 per cent in the MCD elections held for 250 wards in 2022.
All eyes are especially fixed on the results of Shalimar Bagh B and Dwarka B wards. The Shalimar Bagh B ward was vacated after sitting BJP councillor Rekha Gupta won the assembly polls in February and became Delhi's chief minister. Kamaljeet Sehrawat, BJP MP from West Delhi, earlier held the Dwarka B ward.

As per custom, Kumar, who recently won the Gaya Town seat for a record eighth term, was escorted to the Chair by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav. The CM urged all the members to stand up and extend their greetings to the newly elected Speaker.
The 74-year-old JD(U) supremo, however, chided some opposition leaders who kept sitting and when they stood up, grinned in appreciation.
Yadav noted in his speech that the Speaker represented a seat, which housed pilgrim spots linked to Lord Vishnu and Lord Buddha. "You are well aware that the opposition serves as a mirror to the government, which may not be able to see its own failings. We, therefore, expect you to involve us more than the ruling side," the RJD leader said.
The Speaker thanked all the members for reposing their trust in him and said he looked forward to their cooperation. Before adjourning proceedings for the day, he asserted that election of a Deputy Speaker was needed for smooth running of the House, and said the same shall take place on December 4.
Prior to election of the Speaker, the House witnessed swearing-in of members, who could not take oath on the inaugural day of the session on Monday.
These members included Bhojpuri singer-turned-politician Vinay Bihari, a multiple-term BJP MLA from Lauria, who insisted that he be allowed to read the statement of oath in his mother tongue. He, however, relented upon being told by the pro-tem Speaker that it could be read only in Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit or Maithili.

JD(U) president Nitish Kumar was on Thursday sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record tenth time at a grand ceremony, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah among those who were present at the swearing-in.
BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda and the party's in-charge for the recently held state polls Dharmendra Pradhan were also among those who had flown down to attend the ceremony, where Kumar, along with a 21-member cabinet, was administered the oath of office by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan.
Kumar resigned as chief minister on Wednesday and staked claim to form the new government before Governor Khan.
"My heartiest congratulations to all the colleagues who took oath as ministers in the Bihar government. This is a splendid team of dedicated leaders, which will take Bihar to new heights. My best wishes to all of them!" Modi said on X.
Modi, whose charisma had played a big role in the NDA's massive victory in the assembly polls, regaled the crowds when, towards the end of the ceremony, he rotated his 'gamchha' in his signature style.
A gigantic stage had been set up at the Gandhi Maidan, where the attendees included chief ministers from several states ruled by the NDA, prominent among them being N Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh) and Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh), Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra), Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam) and Rekha Gupta (Delhi).
Prominent among those who took the oath on the occasion were Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, the leader and deputy leader, respectively, of the BJP legislative party, both of whom were deputy CMs in the previous NDA government in the state.
At least three ministers are members of the state legislative council. They are JD(U) national general secretary Ashok Choudhary, one of the most trusted aides of the CM, state BJP president Dilip Jaiswal and Hindustani Awam Morcha chief Santosh Kumar Suman.
Shreyasi Singh, an award-winning shooter who got elected from Jamui for a second consecutive term, was a new entrant into the cabinet.
Rama Nishad, wife of former Muzaffarpur MP Ajay Nishad, who had joined the BJP in the thick of elections and got elected from Aurai, has also been inducted into the state cabinet.
Another ninth-term MLA Bijendra Prasad Yadav, from the JD(U), was back in the state cabinet.
None of the inductees were from Union minister Chirag Paswan's LJPRV and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha's RLM, which have 19 and four berths, respectively.
In the outgoing government, the BJP had 15 ministers, JD(U) 12, including CM Nitish Kumar, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) had one, and one minister who was an Independent candidate.

Intense lobbying is still on among NDA partners to finalise the allocation of cabinet berths and a consensus over the post of Assembly Speaker ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of the new Bihar government, scheduled to take place in Patna on November 20.
Sources on Tuesday said efforts are on to evolve a consensus among NDA partners over the post of Assembly Speaker as both the BJP and the JD(U) are staking their claim to the post.
In the outgoing Assembly, BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav served as Speaker, while JD(U)'s Narendra Narayan Yadav held the position of Deputy Speaker.
Senior JD(U) leaders and BJP top brass are holding meetings in this regard in New Delhi, with the Speaker's post high on the agenda, along with the allocation of key ministerial portfolios, sources said.
Leaders of both parties that are considered as front-runners for the post of Speaker include JD(U)'s Vijay Choudhary and BJP's Prem Kumar, sources said.
The sources said the new cabinet will have five to six new faces from the main constituents of the NDA &mdash; the BJP and JD(U).
Umesh Singh Kushwaha, JD(U) chief of the state unit who won from the Mahnar assembly seat, is likely to be inducted in the new cabinet of Nitish Kumar, who will take oath as Bihar CM for a record 10th time on November 20.
Kumar will submit his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, as head of the outgoing government, on November 19, and the current assembly will be dissolved the same day (on Wednesday).
Both JD(U) and BJP will elect their Legislature Party leaders on November 19 respectively.
The NDA stormed to power in Bihar, winning 202 seats in the 243-member assembly, with BJP bagging 89, JD(U) 85, LJP(RV) 19, HAM 5 and RLM 4.
While JD(U) is all set to repeat its current ministers in the next cabinet, the BJP may bring some new faces, sources said.
Along with the JD(U) and the BJP, the smaller partners &mdash; Union minister Chirag Paswan's LJP(RV), Jitan Ram Manjhi's HAM-S, and Upendra Kushwaha's RLM &mdash; will also be part of the new cabinet.
"The LJP(RV) is likely to get three berths in the new state cabinet while the HAM-S and RLM one berth each. A maximum of 16 ministers from the BJP and 14 ministers and Nitish Kumar from JD(U) will take oath on November 20," a source said.
"We are looking forward to having greater representation in the new cabinet, compared with the last one in which our party had only 12 ministers. We want more berths in the cabinet because our tally has risen sharply since 2020, when we had less than 50 MLAs," JD(U) sources said.
The historic Gandhi Maidan, where the swearing-in ceremony will be held, has been closed to the general public until November 20. There is a complete ban on the entry of common people into the Gandhi Maidan till November 20, the Patna district administration said in a statement on Monday.
A large number of security personnel have been deployed as the swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Several top NDA leaders, including Union Home minister Amit Shah, Defence minister Rajnath Singh and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, are expected to attend the event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said there is "deep disappointment and anger" brewing within the Congress over the path on which its "naamdaars" are taking it on and a "major split" could hit the party ahead.
Addressing party workers and supporters at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Modi also said the Congress has become "Muslimleegi Maowadi Congress -- MMC" and its entire agenda revolves around this.
"The basis of the Congress' politics is now just negative politics. Sometimes it gives the slogan of 'chowkidar chor hai', other times it wastes the time of Parliament, sometimes it attacks institutions, sometimes it raises questions on EVMs, sometimes it abuses the Election Commission, other times it makes false allegations of 'vote chori', divides people on caste and religious lines, and puts forward the agenda of the enemies of the country," he said.
"The Congress has no positive vision for the country. The truth is that today the Congress has become the Muslimleegi Maowadi Congress -- MMC. The Congress' entire agenda revolves around this, so now a new faction is emerging within Congress itself, which is uncomfortable with this negative politics. There is deep disappointment and deep anger brewing within the party regarding the path on which the 'namdaars' of the Congress are taking the party on," Modi said.
"I suspect there might be another major split in Congress ahead," he said.
The prime minister pointed out that in the last three Lok Sabha polls, the Congress has not been able to touch three digits. After the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, assembly elections have been held in six states of the country, and in these elections, the number of MLAs of the Congress elected is less than the number of MLAs that "we have won just today", Modi said.
He said people's confidence in the party which ruled the country for decades is continuously decreasing. The Congress has been out of power in several states in the country -- 35 years in Bihar, 30 years in Gujarat, about four decades in Uttar Pradesh and five decades in West Bengal, he said.
"The allies of the Congress are also now understanding that due to its negative politics, it is drowning everyone. I had said during the Bihar polls that the 'naamdaar' of the Congress, by taking a dip in the pond, is practising how to drown and take everyone down," he said, in an apparent swipe at Gandhi who had jumped in a pond while interacting with fishermen in Bihar during the campaign.
"From this platform, I had warned the Congress allies that the party is a liability and is such a parasite that wants to eat into the vote bank of its allies to make a comeback and, therefore, its associates need to be wary of the Congress," Modi said.
The prime minister said he had stated earlier during the polls that the rift between the RJD and the Congress would soon come out in the open.
The ruling NDA decimated the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar on Friday to retain power, reaffirming Prime Minister Modi's popularity and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's enduring appeal and dealing a body blow to the Congress and ally RJD.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday termed the NDA win in Bihar as a vote for pro-people governance and vowed to throw out 'jungle raj' from West Bengal, saying the BJP's victory march will follow the flow of river Ganga from Bihar to Bengal.
Addressing a thanksgiving function at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Modi also set sights on other poll-bound states, saying the massive victory in Bihar has infused fresh energy in party workers of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam and West Bengal where elections are due next year.
"The victory in Bihar has paved the way for the BJP's triumph in Bengal. I want to assure the people of West Bengal that, with your support, the BJP will put an end to the jungle raj in the state as well," he said.
The prime minister greeted party workers at the BJP headquarters here by waving the 'gamchha', the ubiquitous long cotton scarf worn by most people in Bihar and other eastern states amid chants of 'Modi-Modi' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'.
As a symbolic gesture to connect with the people of Bihar on the occasion, PM Modi wore a 'gamchha' with Mithila painting on it and began his speech with chants of "Chhathi Maiyya ki Jai".
"The people of Bihar, with this massive victory and their unshakable confidence, have taken the state by storm ('garda uda diya')," said Modi in typical Bihar lingo.
He termed the victory in Bihar as a mandate for politics of good governance and hailed the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the contribution of all NDA leaders including Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha.
"If the people are re-electing the BJP-led NDA government, it signifies the establishment of a pro-people, pro-governance and pro-development agenda. This represents a new foundation in Indian politics," the prime minister said.
The BJP-led NDA was on course for a landslide victory in the Bihar assembly elections with well over two-thirds majority in the 243-member House.
"Today's victory is the beginning of a new journey. The trust that Bihar has reposed in us has put greater responsibility on our shoulders," he said.
The prime minister assured the voters of Bihar that the state will progress at an even faster pace, new industries will be established and the youth will get jobs within the state.
"Investment will come to Bihar, and this investment will bring more jobs. Tourism will expand in Bihar, and people will see Bihar's new strength. Our pilgrimage sites, places of faith and historical heritage will be rejuvenated," he said.
The prime minister said the victory has given a new "M-Y -- Mahila and Youth" formula as the people had destroyed the "communal 'M-Y' formula of the jungle raj people".
"Bihar has shown again that lies are defeated and people's trust wins," Modi said.
This victory has strengthened people's confidence in the Election Commission, the prime minister said.
In an apparent reference to the Muslim-Yadav (M-Y) support base of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Modi said in Bihar, some parties had formulated an "M-Y formula" but today's victory has given a new "positive M-Y -- Mahila and Youth" formula.
"Today, Bihar is among the states with a high youth population, and these youths belong to all religions and castes. Their wishes, aspirations and their dreams have destroyed the communal M-Y formula of the jungle raj people," Modi said in a swipe at the Opposition.
He said the Bihar polls have also shown that the voters, especially the young ones, take the purification of the electoral list seriously.
The youth of Bihar have also extended tremendous support to the revision of electoral rolls, he said.
Modi hailed the Election Commission for ensuring that elections take place smoothly and recalled how violence was the norm during the 'jungle raj', an apparent reference to RJD rule during the chief ministership of Lalu Prasad and his wife Rabri Devi.
His remarks come at a time when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been alleging "vote chori" in state polls and accusing the EC of colluding with the BJP to ensure the party's victory.
Modi said with the new government, the NDA was now moving forward towards a golden journey of 25 years in Bihar.
"Bihar has ensured that the return of jungle raj will never happen again in this great land. Today's victory belongs to those sisters and daughters of Bihar who endured the terror of jungle raj during RJD's rule," he said.
The prime minister said the victory belonged to the youth of Bihar whose future was ruined due to the terror of Congress and those waving the red flag.
"Today's verdict is a mandate to the politics of development and rejection of the politics of nepotism," Modi said.
"When I used to speak about jungle raj and 'katta sarkar' (rule by country-made pistol), the RJD party raised no objections. However, it unsettled the Congress. Today, I want to reiterate that 'katta sarkar' will never return to Bihar," the prime minister said.

The prime minister said the resounding public mandate will empower the NDA to serve the people and work with new resolve for Bihar.
The NDA comprising BJP, JD(U) and other parties were on course for a landslide victory in the Bihar assembly elections by taking the lead in 204 seats in the 243-member House.
The opposition grand alliance of the RJD, Congress and Left parties could manage to take the lead in 33 seats, 81 fewer than what it had bagged in the 2020 elections.
"The NDA has ensured all-round development of the state. The people have given us a massive majority after witnessing our track record and our vision to take the state to new heights," Modi said.
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ji and our NDA family members Chirag Paswan ji, Jitan Ram Manjhi ji and Upendra Kushwaha ji for this resounding victory," he said.
The prime minister also thanked every NDA worker who worked tirelessly and took the ruling alliance's development agenda to the people.
"I appreciate them from the bottom of my heart," he said.
"In the coming times, we will actively work towards the development of Bihar, giving a new identity to the infrastructure here and the culture of the state. We will ensure that the youth power and women's power here get ample opportunities for a prosperous life," Modi said.

With trends suggesting a big win for the NDA in Bihar, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Friday claimed the assembly election results were not shocking as the Election Commission and BJP worked hand in hand to carry out their "national agenda".
He also said the Bihar election results followed the "pattern" of the 2024 Maharashtra assembly polls, in which the ruling Mahayuti alliance of BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP registered a thumping victory.
The BJP-led NDA appeared to register a landslide victory in Bihar, opening up impressive leads in more than 180 of the state's 243 assembly seats, with early trends also indicating that the saffron party was on track to post its biggest tally.
In a post on X, Raut claimed the results followed the "Maharashtra pattern", a reference to the 2024 election results where the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was wiped out.

"There is no need to be shocked by the Bihar Assembly election results. Looking at the national agenda being carried out hand-in-hand by the Election Commission and the BJP, a different outcome than this was simply not possible. This is exactly like the Maharashtra pattern," he said.
Raut further alleged that the alliance which was expected to come to power "has been pushed below 50 seats", he said.

Accusing the Election Commission of "colluding" with the ruling party in Bihar, senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Friday claimed that cash and benefits -- including Rs 10,000 to women -- were distributed to voters despite the model code of conduct being in force in the then poll-bound state.
The former chief minister of Rajasthan termed the trends of the Bihar assembly election results &ldquo;disappointing&rdquo; and said pension payments and cash transfers continued unabated during the campaign period.
"The assembly results are disappointing. It seems to me that the payments of Rs 10,000 to women were continuing even when the election campaign was on; such a thing never happens," Gehlot told reporters in Jaipur.

He said that during the assembly elections in Rajasthan in 2023, the distribution of mobile phones under a scheme and pension disbursements were immediately halted the moment the code came into effect.
"In Bihar, the Election Commission remained a mute spectator. Why did it not stop this? It did not intervene at all," he alleged.
"When you do not ensure fair elections, when booth capturing or dishonesty takes place, and the Election Commission takes no action, that is vote theft. There was clear collusion with the ruling party," Gehlot said.
He claimed that the BJP had amassed money power, which posed a threat to democracy, adding that the country needs Congress and its ideology.
Speaking about the Anta bypoll, Gehlot said that the Congress candidate was heading towards a victory.
