Grasim Industries, a prominent entity under the Aditya Birla Group umbrella, has forayed into India's decorative paint market with the unveiling of its latest brand, "Birla Opus." The move comes with ambitious targets, as the company sets its sights on achieving a remarkable revenue milestone of ₹10,000 crore within three years of full-scale operations.
Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla expressed confidence in the venture, highlighting the strategic importance of diversification. The inauguration of three manufacturing plants in Panipat, Ludhiana, and Cheyyar marks the initial phase of this expansion, with products set to reach consumers in these regions by March 2024. Rapid distribution plans are underway, aiming to make Birla Opus paints available in all cities with populations exceeding 100,000 by July 2024.
Expansion efforts continue with the establishment of three additional plants in Chamarajanagar, Mahad, and Kharagpur, slated to commence production throughout the fiscal year 2024-25. The company envisions a comprehensive distribution network spanning over 6,000 towns by the end of the fiscal year.
Birla Opus is poised to offer a diverse range of products, boasting over 145 variations and 1200 Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) encompassing water-based paints, enamel paints, wood finishes, waterproofing solutions, and wallpapers. The brand's offerings cater to various consumer segments, from economy to luxury, with an extensive palette of over 2,300 tintable color choices, including 216 iconic Indian shades.
In a bid to enhance customer satisfaction, Birla Opus introduces a pioneering warranty program covering enamels and wood finish products, alongside forthcoming customer assurance initiatives. CEO Rakshit Hargave emphasized the brand's commitment to customer-centric innovation.
At the launch event, Birla extended invitations to over 100,000 paint dealers nationwide, signalling a collaborative effort to revolutionize the industry and elevate consumer experiences. Despite the ambitious venture, Grasim Industries' shares experienced a marginal decline in Thursday's trading, reflecting market adjustments amidst the strategic expansion. Birla, who owns over 27% stake in Voda&nbsp;Idea, is willing to hand over his stake in order to keep the telco&nbsp;afloat, as per a letter he wrote to Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba&nbsp;on June 7.
&ldquo;It is with a sense of duty towards 27 crore&nbsp;Indians connected by VIL, I am more than willing to hand over my stake in the company to any entity-public sector/government/domestic financial entity or any other that the government may consider worthy of keeping the company as a going concern,&rdquo; Birla said in his letter.
This highlights a serious concern in the company as&nbsp;Birla offered to give up his control of the company more than a month before the Supreme Court dismissed the company's application for recalculation of the AGR dues.
VIL's debt has increased sharply in the last four years to Rs 1.6 lakh&nbsp;crore as of March 2021 end, from around Rs 37,000 crore in FY16.

'So racist': Ananya Birla slams US restaurant

Ananya&nbsp;Birla, the daughter of Aditya&nbsp;Birla&nbsp;group's chairman Mangalam&nbsp;Birla&nbsp;took to her Twitter to slam a US restaurant after she and her family were 'thrown out' of the premises.&nbsp;&nbsp; The singer tweeted, 'The restaurant literally threw my family and I, out of their premises. In a first, some Lok Sabha members attended the House proceedings on Monday while seated in the Rajya Sabha chamber as Parliament met for the Monsoon session amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Speaker Om Birla said in Lok Sabha that rules and procedures have been eased to allow Lok Sabha members sit in the upper house and Rajya Sabha members occupy seats in lower house due to social distancing norms. He said as part of the procedures, the chambers of the two Houses and the galleries where members are seated will be considered as part of Lok Sabha when the House proceedings are on. While nearly 200 members were present in the Lok Sabha chamber, a little over 50 were seated in the visitors' gallery located above the main chamber. A few sat in the Rajya Sabha.

Speaker Om Birla said in Lok Sabha that rules and procedures have been eased to allow Lok Sabha members sit in the upper house and Rajya Sabha members occupy seats in lower house due to social distancing norms.
While Lok Sabha is meeting between 9 am and 1 pm on Monday, Rajya Sabha will assemble between 3 pm and 7 pm. Tuesday onwards, Rajya Sabha will meet in the morning and Lok Sabha in the afternoon.
He said as part of the procedures, the chambers of the two Houses and the galleries where members are seated will be considered as part of Lok Sabha when the House proceedings are on.
He said this is perhaps for the first time that such an arrangement had been put in place.
Birla said members do not have to stand while speaking as part of the new procedures put in place to contain the spread of coronavirus.
In a lighter vein, he said some may find it difficult to speak while sitting.
While nearly 200 members were present in the Lok Sabha chamber, a little over 50 were seated in the visitors' gallery located above the main chamber.
When the House met at 9 am, the number of members present was less. But the numbers went up when the House reassembled at around 10.20 am after a one hour adjournment after paying tributes to former president Pranab Mukherjee, a sitting MP and 13 former members who died in the recent past.
Unlike in the past, there were no opposition protests in the Well of the House, which is otherwise a usual occurrence on day one of the session as soon as the House assembles.
A giant TV screen in the Lok Sabha chamber showed very few Lok Sabha members were occupying seats in the Rajya Sabha chamber.
Benches which usually accommodate six members had a numbered sitting plan for only three.
Glass-like plastic shields of varied sizes were installed in front of benches to protect members from coronavirus. The shield also covered part of the members' sides.
The front seats of the Treasury benches on the right of the Speaker's podium were occupied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi sitting on a seat marked as number one, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on seat number 2 and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on seat number 3.
The front seats of the Opposition benches were occupied by T R Baalu of the DMK and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress.
National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah was also present and was seated in the second row of opposition benches.
As soon as the prime minister entered the House, he was greeted with claps and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" slogan.
Modi greeted members, including those from the Opposition, with folded hands.
All members were wearing masks. Some were also seen wearing face shields, including Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee.
