Several members of the youth wing of the Congress were seen fleeing in panic to escape an attack by a swarm of bees during a protest in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
Holding party flags and banners, the youth Congress activists took out a protest march to Gherao the residence of senior IAS officer Bishnupada Sethi in Bhubaneswar over his alleged involvement in a corruption case, which is under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The CBI on December 10 issued a summons to Mr Sethi, the principal secretary of ST&amp;SC Development, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare Department in connection with a ₹ 10 lakh bribery case. Sethi also holds the additional charge as principal secretary of the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department.
The CBI has arrested three persons including Chanchal Mukherjee, group general manager, of Bridge and Roof Construction Company Ltd, Bhubaneswar in this case.
When the youth Congress activists reached Mr Sethi's house, suddenly, a swarm of bees started attacking them. The agitators started running helter-skelter to protect themselves. Some of the protesters were seen covering themselves with the banners they brought for the agitation.
The deployed police personnel and journalists covering the youth Congress protest also faced the bee attack. Many of them lay down on the ground covering their faces to protect themselves from the bees.
After some time, as the bees went away, the youth Congress activists resumed their protest and clashed with the police when they staged a march towards Sethi's home.
When the police prevented them mid-way, the youth Congress members hurled eggs and tomatoes at the house of the IAS officer. The police detained several protesters.
"Sethi has been involved in several corruption practices. We demand his immediate arrest," said Ranjit Patra, state president of the Youth Congress.
Earlier, Congress activists had staged a demonstration before the SC, ST Development Minister Nityananda Gond's residence alleging that a black-listed contractor was engaged by the department.
&nbsp;"Minister Gond should be brought under the purview of the CBI investigation. Otherwise, we will intensify our protest," a Congress leader said.&nbsp; (Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by Editorji News Desk and is published from a syndicated feed.)

The newly built Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela will host Team India's first game of the 2023 Hockey World Cup against Spain on January 13.

Hockey World Cup 2023 : The Indian Hockey team will take on Spain in their opening match of the 2023 Hockey World Cup on January 13. The match will take place at the newly built Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela.
India will be hosting the quadrennial event for the fourth time in tournament history.
The schedule was released by the International Hockey Federation on Tuesday after the draw was announced on September 8. Team India is placed in Group D alongside England, Spain, and Wales. India will play against England in their second group game followed by Wales in the last group D encounter.
After winning the Tokyo 2022 Olympic Bronze, the Indians are expected to go through to the knockouts with ease. All of India's group stage opponents are ranked lower than them but will surely look to give the number 5 ranked Indian team a tough fight at the World Cup.
Coach Graham Reid's Men in Blue will be hoping to reach the final on January 29 in Bhubaneswar next year.

At least 34 students of a private school in Bhubaneswar's Ghatikia were allegedly confined in a room Monday for around 5 hours for not depositing tuition fees on time. 
Post the alleged harrasment meted out to their kids, the anguished parents staged a sit-in at the school’s gate at Ghatikia demanding strict action against the school including arrest of those guilty.
They claimed that they had already paid tuition fees online, but it was not showing in the record due to a technical issue.
Acting on the parents' complaint, a case has been lodged at the Bharatpur police station against officials of the school under Section 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code, beside the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The school on the other hand has refused to comment on the issue.
The parents claimed that the teachers rejected the kids' request to make phone calls to their parents, informing them that they were confined as their tuition fees were not deposited on time.
Speaking to media, one of the parents claimed that the kids were not given permission to eat, drink or go to the toilet and even the fans were switched off.
Another parent said they would approach the human and child rights commissions, and consult the lawyers for the next move
