On the eve of the Baisakhi festival, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh UT Administrator, Banwarilal Purohit extended felicitations and good wishes to all the people living in the country and abroad, said an official statement on Friday.
In a message, Purohit said that Baisakhi has multi-faceted importance.
"It marks the beginning of the harvest season heralding happiness and prosperity. It is also an occasion to remember with gratitude about the contribution of our farmers to the progress of the nation," the statement said.
&ldquo;This auspicious occasion has a special significance in the glorious history of Sikhism, as on this day in 1699, the 10th Guru of Sikhs, Sri Guru Gobind Singh founded the 'Order of Khalsa' to fight against the tyranny of the Mughals", he said.
The governor said that the day also marked a watershed in India&rsquo;s freedom movement in 1919.

Ambassador of Brazil to India Kenneth H da Nobrega called on Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Monday here and Purohit assured full support to enhance bilateral ties and explore avenues of collaboration between Brazil and Punjab.

In an official statement, Purohit expressed Punjab's eagerness to attract Brazilian investment and foster mutually beneficial partnership.
In response, the ambassador conveyed Brazil's keen interest in exploring opportunities for cooperation and investment in Punjab. He said Brazil has officially constituted a working group dedicated to furthering conversation and exploring concrete possibilities for collaboration in various sectors.
The ambassador outlined Brazil's interest in several key areas, including agriculture, with a focus on developing resilient crop variety, genetic material in dairy farming, cotton production, promotion of solar energy and ethanol use, as well as collaboration in higher education and research, said the statement.
Expressing enthusiasm for potential partnership, the governor emphasised Punjab's commitment to facilitating a conducive environment for investment and collaboration.

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday resigned citing personal reasons and other commitments. Purohit had been at loggerheads with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over various issues in the past.
"Due to my personal reasons and certain other commitments, I tender my resignation from the post of governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh. Please accept the same and oblige," Purohit wrote in his resignation letter.
His resignation came a day after he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Their meeting came days after the BJP trumped the Congress-AAP alliance and swept the Chandigarh mayoral polls, retaining all three posts.
The opposition had alleged tampering with ballot papers by the presiding officer.
The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to consider an AAP councillor's request seeking urgent hearing of his plea challenging the high court order.
