Varun Dhawan's "Baby John" makes a strong impact at the box office, grossing Rs 11.25 crore on its opening day. The Hindi remake of the Tamil film "Theri," directed by Kalees, has set a new benchmark for non-franchise films post-pandemic.

'Baby John' earns Rs 11 crore on opening day

"Baby John" also holds "the record for the highest opening day collection among remake films" released after the pandemic.

Varun Dhawan-starrer "Baby John" has raised Rs 11.25 crore in net box office collections on the first day of its release, the makers said on Thursday.
Directed by Kalees, the Hindi action film stars Dhawan in the dual roles of police inspector Satya Verma and John, his alter ego. It hit the screens on Wednesday.
"Baby John" is presented by Jio Studios in association with Atlee and Cine1 Studios and produced by A for Apple Studios and Murad Khetani's Cine1 Studios.
"'Baby John', directed by Kalees, opened to an impressive INR 11.25 crore nett on Day 1 in India, marking it as the biggest opener for a non-franchise film post-pandemic," the makers said in a statement.
The movie is the Hindi remake of the 2016 Tamil film "Theri", directed by Atlee and starring Vijay in the lead.
"Baby John" also holds "the record for the highest opening day collection among remake films" released after the pandemic, the makers further said.
Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh and Jackie Shroff round out the cast of the film.

He looks intense with serious expressions on his face. Apart from the actor&rsquo;s face, the film poster also includes the film&rsquo;s release date besides the other details. The poster comes as a bonus for the fans as it comes just days after the film&rsquo;s release date. &nbsp;
Varun has collaborated with South director Kalees and Atlee Kumar for the high-octane action drama. The Bollywood hearthrob will be seen engaged in powerful action sequences. &lsquo;Baby John&rsquo; also marks Keerthy Sureshs Hindi debut. Wamiqa Gabbi, who was seen in &lsquo;Khufiya&rsquo; with Tabu, will make her theatrical debut. Besides, Jackie Shroff and Rajpal Yadav will also be seen playing key roles. Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan in the lead, has been postponed to Christmas 2024, bringing festive cheers to the fans of the actor. The makers announced the news with a new poster on Instagram. &ldquo;Christmas this year just got merrier. Brace yourselves for Baby John releasing on December 25th (sic).&rdquo; Although makers have now shared a reason for the delay, media reports have suggested that the release date was pushed given the heavy reliance on visual effects and action sequences.&nbsp;
<h3>Aamir vs Varun showdown at the box office?&nbsp;</h3>
Aamir Khan is coming back to the big screen with a new film, titled 'Sitaare Zameen Par', a spin-off to his 2007 hit 'Taare Zameen Par'. Aside from Aamir confirming that the project is in development, details related to the upcoming film have not been known. However, the actor at TV9 Summit said that they are pushing for a Christmas release date. Now, if the announcement is made official, the film will have a box office clash with Varun Dhawan's 'Baby John'. This would mark the first showdown between Varun and Aamir.&nbsp;
