West Bengal BJP's Murshidabad unit has announced plans to construct a Ram temple in Berhampore, days after TMC MLA Humayun Kabir proposed to set up a mosque

The BJP said the temple&rsquo;s construction will begin on January 22, 2025, exactly one year after the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

West Bengal BJP's Murshidabad unit has announced plans to construct a Ram temple in Berhampore, days after TMC MLA Humayun Kabir proposed to set up a mosque modelled after the Babri Masjid at Beldanga in the same district.
The BJP said the temple&rsquo;s construction will begin on January 22, 2025, exactly one year after the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. BJP&rsquo;s Berhampore organisational district president, Shakharav Sarkar, said land for the temple has already been identified, and the project is estimated to cost Rs 10 crore.&nbsp;
"We have already identified a land in Beharampore area and the construction work for the Ram Temple based on the design of the temple on Ayodhya will begin soon," he told reporters.
Kabir, the TMC MLA from Beldanga, had on Tuesday announced plans for the mosque, which he said would honour the sentiments of the region&rsquo;s significant minority population.
His remarks have sparked political controversy, with opposition parties accusing him of attempting to polarise communities for political gain.
The BJP&rsquo;s counterproposal to build a Ram temple is seen as a strategic move to strengthen its presence among the Hindu community in Murshidabad, a district where minorities make up around 75 per cent of the population.
Responding to the controversy, the TMC distanced itself from Kabir&rsquo;s remarks, describing them as his personal opinion.
&ldquo;The TMC has nothing to do with this statement of Kabir,&rdquo; a senior party leader said.&nbsp;
Kabir&rsquo;s announcement has also drawn criticism from the Congress, which accused him of playing divisive politics in a sensitive region.

Stating that the arrest was carried out due to hatred, the BJP MP Prahlad Joshi stated that the govt is opening old cases due to disagreements.

Defending the arrest which has happened over 30 years after the incident, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah asserted that it is about addressing crimes, not politics or hatred.
He said, 'What will we do if someone has made a mistake? Should we let the person who has committed a crime go free? Our government will close all the old cases and the Police have acted as per law. This is not a politics of hatred. The Police have not arrested any innocent person'.

Days after retiring from the post of Supreme Court judge, Justice Syed Abdul Nazeer has been appointed as the governor of Andhra Pradesh.

Babri Masjid demolition: Supreme court dismisses all contempt proceedings against former UP CM Kalyan Singh, others
 

The Supreme court of India on Tuesday dropped all contempt proceedings arising out of the Babri Masjid demolition case in 1992.&nbsp;

The Supreme court of India on Tuesday closed a contempt case in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition matter. The contempt case was filed against the then Uttar Pradesh CM Kalyan Singh and other officials.
They were accused of allowing the Rath Yatra and not stopping the Babri Masjid demolition despite the assurance of security by the government causing communal unrest.&nbsp;
The top court stated that a larger bench had already passed a verdict in the over two-decade long legal battle over the disputed land.&nbsp;
Moreover, the court stated that the person who filed the plea and the former UP CM against whom the plea was, are both dead. Thus, nothing in the case can survive.&nbsp;
Significantly, a five-judge bench of the apex court had passed a verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute case in November 2019.&nbsp;
The court had awarded the entire disputed land to the Hindu parties to build Ram temple while an alternative 5 acres of the land was assigned to the Waqf board for construction of the mosque.&nbsp;
Other cases in the demolition matter are not affected due to this SC ruling.&nbsp;
