During and post the pandemic, masks have become a part of our lives and sometimes it gets difficult even for adults to recognise an acquaintance at a public place. But a recent study has revealed that babies remember faces inspite of masks.
The study was done by researchers at University of California and it was found that 6 to 9 months old babies memorise masked faces and recognise them even when they see them without masks.&nbsp;
58 babies were made to sit on laps or high chairs and were shown masked and unmasked faces on computer screens. Cameras recorded their reactions from which the team could derive which faces they recognised and which ones they didn&rsquo;t.

Published&nbsp;in JAMA&nbsp;Pediatrics, the study says that infants who were born between March to December 2020 scored slightly lower on a screening&nbsp;of their developmental skills than those born prior to the pandemic. This was regardless of whether their mother was infected with the virus during pregnancy or not.

The study is based on data from 225 babies born in New York City&nbsp;which was the U.S. epicentre in the outbreak&rsquo;s early days.&nbsp;Although the differences observed were small, experts say it does make you question what is impairing the&nbsp;foundational skills&nbsp;such as motor skills in pandemic babies.&nbsp;
Interestingly, it was predicted that mask-wearing would affect babies&rsquo; communication but the study observed that pandemic babies, in fact, scored higher in communication skills.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Overall, the team&nbsp;cautioned&nbsp;that the findings&nbsp;may not be indicative of long-term lags in development.

Secondly, the babies birthed by infected mothers were&nbsp;also nearly three times more at risk of severe medical complications, mostly due to premature birth, noted the researchers.&nbsp;
However, breastfeeding does not seem to heighten the risk of babies contracting Covid-19 from their mothers, scientists said.
Published in the medical journal JAMA Pediatrics, the study assessed over 2,100 pregnant women across 18 countries.&nbsp;

As of now, pregnant women have been advised against taking the Covid-19 vaccine in India, since no trials have included pregnant and lactating mothers.
But in some good news, new evidence from the US on&nbsp;Covid-19 vaccination finds that&nbsp;Pfizer&rsquo;s and&nbsp;Moderna&rsquo;s jabs were safe for the women as well as their babies.&nbsp;The researchers found no &ldquo;obvious safety signals&rdquo; among any of the more than 35,000 women&nbsp;who were followed in the peer-reviewed study.&nbsp;
