As we near 75 years of India's independence, we take a look at the meaning of the tricolour for Indian citizens, and the idea behind unfurling the flag in every Indian home.

As India gears up to celebrate 75 years of independence, all sectors in India are doing their bit to mark this milestone moment in India's history. The ASI has announced free entry in to all national monuments from 5th-15th August, ISRO will carry an 'AzaadiSat', built by all girl students, on its maiden SSLV flight and Prime Minister Modi has urged all citizens to take to Social Media to show off their pride in the nation. 

While many events have been planned, front and center in all the festivities is the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign, with the Cultural Ministry aiming to hoist the flag in 20 crore homes of India. But did you know there was a time when it was illegal for an ordinary citizen to hoist the tricolour?  Vikram Chandra discusses the history of hoisting the flag in India with experts.

Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad and others on Monday carried out 'Azadi Gaurav Yatra' in Delhi to mark the country's 75th Independence Day.

The march was part of Chhattisgarh Congress' 'Azadi Gaurav Yatra', &nbsp;which began on August 9 on the August Kranti Diwas, and culminated in Raipur later on Monday afternoon in the presence of CM Bhupesh Baghel

Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad and others on Monday carried out 'Azadi Gaurav Yatra' in Delhi to mark the country's 75th Independence Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "We should remember our martyrs, citizens and leaders who sacrificed their lives for independence. We owe our independence to them. Together we can take our country forward."
The march was part of Chhattisgarh Congress' 'Azadi Gaurav Yatra', &nbsp;which began on August 9 on the August Kranti Diwas, and culminated in Raipur later on Monday afternoon in the presence of CM Bhupesh Baghel, state unit chief Mohan Markam and others at Gandhi Maidan.

The march had covered a distance of 6,750 kilometres while passing through all 90 assembly constituencies of Chhattisgarh.
