The Delhi Health Department has directed more than 100 hospitals to implement the Ayushman Bharat Yojana at the earliest, an official source said.
The previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government did not implement the BJP-led NDA government's flagship healthcare scheme in the national capital.
The source said the department has issued an advisory for the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana in 110 hospitals.
As part of the initiative, a copy of the contract letter has been sent to these hospitals to enter into an agreement with the Delhi government.
Along with this, the guidelines for implementation have also been shared with all the associated hospitals.
The source said the hospitals have been asked to sign the agreement as soon as possible so that the beneficiaries of Ayushman Yojana do not face any problems in availing healthcare services.
The BJP-led Delhi government inked an MoU with the Centre on April 5 to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the city.
With this, Delhi has become the 35th state/Union Territory to implement the health insurance scheme.
The Ayushman Bharat scheme provides free and cashless treatment for 1,961 medical procedures across 27 specialties, covering the costs of medicines, diagnostic services, hospitalisation, ICU care, surgeries and more.
Under the scheme, eligible families in Delhi will receive annual health coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh -- Rs 5 lakh from the Centre and an additional Rs 5 lakh as a top-up from the Delhi government.
The BJP, which came to power in Delhi in February after a gap of more than 26 years, approved the implementation of the scheme at its first cabinet meeting held right after Gupta and six of her ministers took the oath of office on February 20.

Enrolling under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) -- India's national health insurance program -- increased access to timely initiation of cancer treatment by 33 per cent, a study has found.
Researchers, including those from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, also found that under the scheme, patients diagnosed with cancer after 2018, when the program was launched, were at a 36 per cent higher chance of timely initiation of treatment within 30 days, compared to those diagnosed between 1995 and 2017.
The findings, published in The Lancet Regional Health Southeast Asia, showed a "significant improvement in timely initiation of cancer treatment as a result of the introduction of PM-JAY".
The researchers analysed responses of almost 6,700 cancer patients, recruited between October 2020 and March 2022, from "selected seven leading cancer care hospitals" across six states, such as Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Delhi.
The patients were interviewed on aspects, including health care costs and quality of life, as part of the protocol 'National Cancer Database for Cost and Quality of Life', developed in 2018 and described in a study published in the British Medical Journal Open.
Overall, the typical duration before initiating cancer treatment following diagnosis was found to be 20 days.
The duration was observed to be highest among patients with head and neck cancer (29 days), followed by that observed among breast cancer patients (25 days) and lowest among patients with haematological cancers (11 days), the researchers found.
They also found an overall declining trend in delays in the time taken before starting cancer treatment over the years, and the "slope of this decreasing trend was notably higher among patients availing benefits under AB PM-JAY".
This suggested a higher chance of timely treatment initiation for cancer patients as a result of enrolment, the authors said and attributed it to the "expansion of cancer care services under national flagship insurance program".
The team also found lower chances of delays in timely treatment initiation among those having a higher income, compared to those having a lower income.
This was the "first-ever study to cover all types of cancer patients in a nationally representative sample", according to the authors.
"Our study recommends expanding AB PM-JAY cancer packages to include cost-effective treatments, increasing population coverage under screening programs and promoting e-RUPI to reduce financial constraints associated with diagnostic services to address delayed treatment initiation due to unknown cancer stages," they wrote.

Budget 2024: The government is planning to double the insurance cover under its flagship Ayushman Bharat health scheme from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. As per PTI, the centre is also planning to cover serious ailments like cancer and transplants, which need more financial support.
<h3>Boost to Ayushman Bharat scheme</h3>
The health ministry is also planning to increase the beneficiaries to 100 crore under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). The benefits of the scheme could be extended to Kisan Samman Nidhi recipients, construction workers, non-coal mine workers and ASHA workers in the next three years.
"To ensure that serious illnesses requiring the expenditure of more than Rs 5 lakh such as transplants and high-cost cancer treatments etc. are also covered under AB PMJAY, the ministry is working on finalising a proposal to increase the cover amount from Rs 5 lakh per family per year to Rs 10 lakh per family per year from 2023-24 onwards," the government official told PTI
PTI quoted Health Ministry officials and said that the government would require an additional Rs 12,076 crore per annum to provide Rs 10 lakh to 100 crore beneficiaries. The Finance Ministry has allocated Rs 7,200 crore for FY24.&nbsp;
The budget allocation for FY25 could be doubled to around Rs 15,000 crore.
<h3>Ayushman Bharat Scheme</h3>
The scheme that was launched in September 2018, is part of the National Health Policy 2017 aims to guarantee Universal Health Coverage. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana or PM-JAY scheme under Ayushman Bharat is recognised as the largest health assurance scheme in the world.&nbsp;
According to government statistics, the programme presently has 55 crore individuals, which is equal to 12 crore families. As of December 2023, approximately 28.45 Crore Ayushman Cards have been issued since the inception of the programme. Out of this total, around 9.38 crore Ayushman Cards were generated in 2023 alone.&nbsp;
