‘Every actress wants an upgrade, wants to be known for her acting skills and not just as a glam girl,' Ayesha Jhulka opens up on quitting films.

Ayesha Jhulka reveals that she quit Bollywood because she was not satisfied with the cinema she was doing.

Ayesha Jhulka, who rose to fame with her role in films like &lsquo;Khiladi&rsquo; and &lsquo;Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander&rsquo;, shared why she decided to step away from Bollywood in a recent interview. She shared how she felt that though her characters in movies had different names, they were all &lsquo;similar&rsquo;.
Speaking with ETimes, Ayesha said taking a break from acting was a conscious choice, &lsquo;I felt that if I associate myself with a project, I should be able to add value to it. But that can only happen if I am given a chance to perform. If that was not happening and I was being treated as a prop in a project, then it was not really worth my time. So I had to put an end to those roles.&rsquo;
Talking about the image of a glam girl, she said, &lsquo;Every actress wants an upgrade, wants to be known for her acting skills and not just as a glam girl. I wanted that too.... When I joined the Hindi film industry, while the characters I played had different names, they were almost similar&rsquo;.
She added, &lsquo;Being a glam girl is fine when you are a newcomer, but as you grow in the profession, you also want to be known for your acting chops. The cinema I was doing no longer satisfied me, I was hungry work that tapped my potential and that wasn&rsquo;t happening. Taking a break from acting and devoting my energies elsewhere made sense&rsquo;.

Ayesha said, 'Juhi and I go back a long way in the industry. However, Hush Hush gave just the right scope for us to gel along like the good ol’ days! Imagine romancing the same actors, but never sharing screen space before! On set, most of our conversations revolved around how exciting it is to finally collaborate on a project.'
Talking about her working experience with Juhi, Ayesha said, 'We laughed and had lots of fun on sets. Ishi and Meera’s relationship is based on bonding, and our off-screen camaraderie translated onscreen. We had some really powerful scenes together and it was a very nice give and take. For you to perform well, you need a mutual power exchange, and it was quite a help from Juhi’s side. We should do more work together.'
