The BCCI and Pakistan Cricket Board are headed for a showdown at next month's ICC meeting as PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is not budging from his stance of personally handing over the Asia Cup trophy to India in his capacity as head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
In the reply sent to the BCCI and other ACC member nations, Naqvi has insisted that he is willing to organise a ceremony on November 10 in Dubai, where a representative of the BCCI and any available Indian team player can take the trophy from him.
"The ACC trophy rightly belongs to the Indian cricket team and is being held in trust till such time that a BCCI office holder along with any available participating player can collect the same from the ACC President," Naqvi wrote in his reply.
"Such collection would of course be accompanied with much fanfare and coverage as there should be no deviation from established practices and no precedent should be set which undermines the spirit of the game we all love."
The ICC is headed by former BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
Naqvi's reply came after the BCCI's fresh missive to the ACC on the Asia Cup trophy fiasco, which was backed by boards of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
The response clearly indicates the level of mistrust and tensions between the BCCI and PCB.
"...as regards the remainder of your letter, slanderous as it may be and digressing as it does from the same values you highlighted, the office of the ACC President will not indulge in petty politics that is aimed to pacify select extremist groups," the reply further reads.
"The true state of affairs is that there was never any official communication shared with ACC office or the Tournament Director highlighting any position or concern of the BCCI with respect to prize distribution ceremony.
"It was only when the Ceremony was about to take place and distinguished guests had taken their place on the stage that the BCCI's representative conveyed that the Indian Cricket Team would not be receiving the Asla Cup Trophy and awards. Efforts were made to find a solution to the impasse which resulted in an inordinate delay."
"The ACC president waited along with the distinguished guests for approximately 40 minutes to ensure that the integrity of the presentation ceremony was preserved and was not adversely affected by politics, but in vain," the reply added.
A reliable source in the PCB said that the legal department of the board had already been instructed to prepare a dossier in case the BCCI officials move to have Naqvi censured at the ICC board meeting, an indication of which has already been given by the BCCI if the trophy fiasco is not resolved at the earliest.

Winning the Asia Cup was the "best reply" to an aggressive opposition, middle-order batter Tilak Varma said on Tuesday, revealing that he aced an initial bout of pressure and verbal volleys by Pakistan players en route his match winning half-century in the title clash.
Tilak made an unbeaten 69 to guide India to a five-wicket win over their arch-rivals at Dubai last Sunday.
"There was some pressure and nerves initially. But I have placed my country ahead of everything else and I wanted to win the match for the country. I knew If I succumbed to the pressure at that time I would be letting down myself and 140 crore people of the country," Tilak said after his arrival from Dubai last night. "I believed in the basics that I learned as a young cricketer from my coaches and executed it. The best reply to them was to win the match and that's what we did," he added.
Tilak admitted that the Pakistan players resorted to some intense sledging during the match, but he preferred to maintain silence while the chase of 147 was on.
"We lost three wickets quickly and things were a bit heated up then. I came to bat a bit earlier than normal. But I did not say anything or play a rash shot to let the team and country down," he said.
However, the Hyderabadi revealed that he gave a piece of his mind to Pakistan players once India surmounted the target.
"During the match, I was just focusing on my basics, I was not ready to answer them. Whatever I want to tell them I told them after the match and not when the game was going on.
"There were a lot of things happening in the middle but I can't reveal all of them. Those things happen in India vs Pakistan matches and they are part of the game. But our focus was on winning the match," he said.
India required to score 10 runs off the last over bowled by pacer Haris Rauf, and Tilak said he was able to overcome the pressure by then.
"I was not under pressure (in the last over). I knew that I will win the game. I was just thinking about my country and was focussing on one ball at a time. I backed myself to deliver for the country and I am so proud of it," he added.
Tilak said India won the match because they were able to stitch together partnerships on a not-so-easy pitch to bat on.
"I agree with Surya bhai's statement of 'no rivalry' but this is sports and we knew that they will come prepared for the final.
"We were expecting that and we were prepared when they took the pace off the ball and the pitch was also not easy to bat on. We made some good partnerships and won the match and are proud of that," he noted.

"I have decided to donate my match fees from this tournament to support our Armed Forces and the families of the victims who suffered from the Pahalgam terror attack. You always remain in my thoughts. Jai Hind," the 35-year-old posted on 'X' after the high-voltage win.
India players are entitled to Rs four lakh per match in the T20 format, which means that Suryakumar would be donating a total of Rs 28 lakh for the seven games played in the continental event.
The Indian team steadfastly refused to exchange pleasantries with the Pakistani side during the entire tournament, where it ended up beating Salman Ali Agha's men on three consecutive Sundays.
Suryakumar had taken the lead in snubbing Pakistan at every opportunity during the tournament.
He also paid tribute to the Pahalgam attack victims and the Indian armed forces after his team beat the arch foes in a group match on September 14. A furious Pakistan had accused him of making political statements and sought a ban on him in its complaint to the ICC.
The world body had then asked him to refrain from making any statement that might be construed political, besides imposing a 30 per cent fine on his match fee of that day.
The BCCI has challenged the fine on him after Suryakumar pleaded not guilty during the ICC hearing last week.&nbsp;

Tilak Varma, the sinewy left-hander from the city of Nizams, produced a heady cocktail of chutzpah and discretion to guide India to their ninth Asia Cup title, following a five-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan in a thrilling final in Dubai on Sunday.
Needing 10 off the last over, Tilak deposited the controversial trouble monger Haris Rauf into mid-wicket stands before Rinku Singh, getting his first hit of the tournament, sent the Indian fans into delirium with a winning boundary.
Having slumped to 20 for three inside first five overs, Tilak (69 not out off 53 balls) was composed and audacious in equal measure with Sanju Samson (24) and Shivam Dube (33 off 21 balls ) proving to be brilliant support casts as India chased down 147 in 19.4 overs.
The tension was immense due to off-field events leading up to the final but this Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav and guided by Gautam Gambhir walked the talk when it came to upping the fearlessness quotient in a pressure cooker scenario with stands on a boiling point and fans engaging in fisticuffs.
If Kuldeep Yadav (17 wickets in tournament) wreaked havoc that saw Pakistan lose their last nine wickets for a mere 33 runs, Tilak displayed unusual calm after the team suffered its first top-order collapse.
He added 57 with Samson and another 64 runs with Dube to continue India's supremacy against Pakistan across white ball formats in the past few years.
The decisive point in the game was the 15th over bowled by Haris Rauf (0/50 in 3.4 overs) which yielded as many as 17 runs.
It started with Dube slapping Rauf through the covers and Tilak hitting a ramrod straight drive before a pick-up pull behind square increased the pacer's woes. So much so head coach Mike Hesson was agitated that he was bowling the wrong line.
Rauf, one of the biggest reasons for escalating tensions between two teams, was pulled into the mid-wicket stands by Dube with 17 needed off last two overs.
'Law of Averages' was suppose to catch up with Abhishek Sharma (5) sooner or later and Pakistan's new ball bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Faheem Ashraf were clever enough to bowl a lot of slower deliveries.
Abhishek, who likes to hit through the line and on the rise, was finding it difficult to connect and lobbed one to mid-on. Suryakumar Yadav (1) and Shubman Gill (12) also perished trying to meet the slower deliveries early as India were left tottering at 20 for three.
Samson (24 off 21 balls) got into the groove with a cover drive off Shaheen while Tilak whipped a Faheem delivery outside leg-stump into the deep fine leg stand.
When Abrar Ahmed came into the attack, Tilak slog swept him over cow corner for a maximum as the duo added 50 runs for the fourth wicket.
However just as he was gaining confidence having hit Saim Ayub for a six, Samson was out trying to hit Abrar against the turn.
Earlier, a majestic Kuldeep, in the company of a wily Varun Chakravarthy and a parsimonious Axar Patel, literally ran through an inept Pakistan batting line-up skittling out the arch-rivals for a below par 146 for 19.1 overs after opting to field.
Hamstrung by Hardik Pandya's absence and pushed back briefly due to a solid opening stand of 84 between Sahibzada Farhan (57 off 38 balls) and Fakhar Zaman (46 off 35 balls), the Indian spin troika of Kuldeep (4/30 in 4 overs), Axar Patel (2/26 in 4 overs) and Chakravarthy (2/30 in 4 overs) literally choked them in the back-10 to bring India right back in the match.
From 113 for one at one stage when Fakhar and Saim Ayub were batting, wickets fell like nine pins once Kuldeep got rid of the latter. India got the remaining nine wickets for 33 runs to take the upperhand halfway into the final.
To rub it in, Jasprit Bumrah (2/25 in 3.1 overs), who was having another off day, yorked Haris Rauf and then made half a gesture of a crashing plane in a send-off that reminded one of the Pakistani pacer's controversial gesture to the Indian fans in the previous game.
So what changed between the front and the back-10? It was the lines that the Indian spinners bowled to the Pakistani batters apart from taking the pace-off deliveries.
All the spinners started bowling slightly slower deliveries outside the hitting arc of the batters and that did the trick. Salman Ali Agha and Hussain Talat once again tried to hit their way out of trouble and failed miserably.&nbsp;

In an unprecedented turn of events, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, in his capacity as the chairman of Asian Cricket Council (ACC), denied the Indian cricket team the Asia Cup Trophy, after it refused to accept the silverware from him.
It was 90 minutes of pure drama at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium after India won the Asia Cup beating Pakistan by five wickets in a thrilling final in Dubai on Sunday.
However, what happened after a high-octane game of cricket overshadowed the performance on the 22 yards.
The Indian players were soon out on the field with some of the players being accompanied by their respective families. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav's wife Devisha, head coach Gautam Gambhir's wife and daughters were on the ground as everyone was in good spirits.
Exactly 20-25 yards from where the 'Men In Blue' gathered, another melee was formed with ACC and Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi standing with his coterie.
It is learnt that BCCI had informed their ACC points-person that the team won't take the award from Naqvi, who has a pronounced anti-India stance.
Naqvi had posted cryptic videos of Cristiano Ronaldo's plane crash gesture celebrations, a reference to the Pakistani claims that six Indian jets were downed during 'Operation Sindoor' in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Naqvi was also behind Pakistan's demand that ICC charge Suryakumar with a Level 4 offence for standing by the Indian Army and showing solidarity with victims of Pahalgam terror attack. The Indian team had also maintained a 'no handshake' policy with regards to Pakistan during the tournament.
For the first one hour of the delayed presentation, none of the Pakistan players were on the ground for the ceremony.
It is learnt that the Indian team was game to receiving the trophy from anyone else among the dignitaries on the podium save Naqvi. Dubai Sports City Khalid Al Zarooni, who was also on the dais, was even expected to present India with the Asia Cup.
However, amid the BCCI's clear stand, the Indian players didn't want to go up on stage till Naqvi was around and the PCB chairman did not oblige.
"BCCI would have lodged official protest if Naqvi had tried to forcefully hand over the trophy," a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
In this backdrop, post-match presenter Simon Doull made announcement for the individual sponsors' awards as it is mandatory to acknowledge the stakeholders and investors of the event.
Once the individual awards were given and the Pakistan team collected their prizes from Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam Bulbul, Doull announced: "I have been informed by the Asian Cricket Council that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. So that does conclude the post-match presentation." As Naqvi got down from the podium and strode towards the exit gate, the ACC event staff, to everyone surprise also walked away with the trophy leaving everyone flummoxed.
BCB president Bulbul, who is seen to be a close ally of Naqvi (the last ACC meet that BCCI skipped was held in Dhaka), spoke to mediapersons stationed outside the stadium informing them that prize distribution ceremony had to be abruptly called off in the middle of the proceedings due to India's refusal.
The Indian squad, along with support staff, gathered near the podium to celebrate briefly and also did a photo-session albeit without the trophy.
"We have decided not to take the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the main leaders of Pakistan," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told select group of news agencies at the board headquarters in Mumbai.
He also asked Naqvi to return the Championship trophy and individual medals as soon as possible.
"But that does not mean that the gentleman will take away the trophy with him, along with the medals. So it is very unfortunate and we hope that the trophy and the medals will be returned to India as soon as possible." When Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha was asked about it, he backed his chairman's controversial move.
"Look he is the ACC chairman. He is well within his rights to give away the trophy."&nbsp;
BCCI to gun for Naqvi ouster from ACC&nbsp;
The BCCI, which had its AGM on Sunday, is furious at the turn of events and will approach the ICC for some action as Saikia declared.
"There is an ICC conference in November in Dubai. In the next conference, we are going to launch a very serious and very strong protest against the act of the ACC chairperson (Naqvi)," Saikia said.
Scheduling for next year's World T20&nbsp;
The India vs Pakistan games are the proverbial cash cows in the global cricket's broadcast ecosystem.
Hence efforts are always made to squeeze in as many games possible in multi-lateral events.
But the chain of events in Dubai on Sunday will certainly have a sour aftertaste and stakeholders will need to decide at what cost they want to have these games which increase animosity as was evident during the Asia Cup.

It is reliably learnt that the BCCI filed the complaint against the duo on Wednesday and ICC is in receipt of the e-mail.
An ICC hearing is expected to take place in case Sahibzada and Rauf deny these allegations in writing. They might have to appear before the ICC Elite Panel Referee Richie Richardson for a hearing.
In a retaliatory gesture, the Pakistan Cricket Board also seems to have lodged an official complaint with the international parent body against Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav for expressing his solidarity with victims of Pahalgam terror attack and dedicating his team's victory to the Indian Armed Forces involved in Operation Sindoor. His comments came after the September 14 game.
PCB alleges that Surya's comments are "political" although technically it needs to be seen when exactly did it file the complaint, which needs to be lodged within seven days of the said comment.
Rauf, Sahibzada gestures&nbsp;
During the September 21 match, Rauf had made gestures to depict the bringing down of a plane to mock India's military action after Indian supporters chanted "Kohli, Kohli" referring to the couple of match-winning sixes that the Indian legend hit off the pacer at MCG during a T20 World Cup game in 2022.
During the match, he hurled abuses at Indian openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma during his bowling spell and the two youngsters responded with their bats.
Sahibzada, during the same match, celebrated with a gun-firing gesture using his bat as a machine gun prop, something that has been widely criticised.
"That celebration was just a moment at that time. I do not do a lot of celebrations after scoring 50. But, it suddenly came to my mind that let's do a celebration today. I did that. I don't know how people will take it. I don't care about that," Farhan had told reporters after the match.
Both Rauf and Sahibzada will have to explain their gestures at the ICC hearing and if they can't convince then they could face sanctions as per th code of conduct.

Adding fuel to the fire, Asian Cricket Council chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday posted a slow-motion video of Cristiano Ronaldo on 'X', where the Portuguese legend is seen gesturing that an aircraft suddenly crashed, something that Rauf indicated on-field during the clash of arch-rivals last Sunday.
Naqvi, apart from also being Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman, is the 'Interior Minister' of his country and is known to make provocative statements against the India.
Ronaldo, in the video, could well be explaining how his direct free-kick dipped and entered the goal.
After this, whether the Indian team, which is now the finalist of the Asia Cup, share the dais with the ACC Chairman is something that remains to be seen.
The matter hasn't gone unnoticed as far as both BCCI and ICC mandarins are concerned. Only time will tell if there will be some kind of action taken against Naqvi.

Abhishek Sharma's scintillating 75 was beautifully complemented by Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy as India comfortably hammered Bangladesh by 41 runs to enter the Asia Cup final in Dubai on Wednesday.&nbsp;
Despite a mediocre batting show that limited India to 168 for six in their second Super 4 match, Bangladesh's batting never had the wherewithal to chase down a gettable total and were bowled out for 127 in 19.3 overs.
Thursday's Super 4s game between Bangladesh and Pakistan is a 'virtual semi-final' and will decide India's opponent in the summit clash. If Bangladesh's batting show is any indicator, a third mouth-watering India versus Pakistan contest for the biggest continental prize is very much on the cards.
Opener Saif Hassan (69 off 51 balls) did his bit with some lusty hitting but most of the other batters failed to even reach double digits. Having said that, Saif was lucky to get as many as five reprieves.
Kuldeep Yadav's (3/18 in 4 overs) craft was too much for them to decode while Varun Chakravarthy (2/29 in 4 overs) also got his share of wickets on a day when Axar Patel (1/37 in 4 overs) was blasted for four sixes.
Jasprit Bumrah (2/18 in 4 overs) also had a good day in office. While some of the other Bangladeshi batters didn't measure up, right-handed Saif muscled the likes of Axar and Chakravarthy for five huge sixes to keep his team interested but had no support at the other end.
Earlier, Abhishek Sharma blended power with copious amount of grace to smash a 37-ball-75 before indiscreet cricket from the other batters restricted India to a par 168 for six. Abhishek, who is in the middle of a dream phase, hit six fours and five huge sixes in his sizzling effort.
He looked good for a century but a fantastic one handed stop and quick action throw from Rishad Hossan stationed at short third-man sent him back to the dugout.
At the other end, Indian batters played some poor strokes-- whether it was Shubman Gill, Tilak Varma or skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who was caught brilliantly down the leg-side by stand-in captain and keeper Jaker Ali.
Team management's inability to fit Sanju Samson was apparent as he couldn't be fitted into the top seven.
Having scored 96 in first 10, India managed only 72 in next 10 overs with Axar Patel (10 off 15 balls), promoted ahead of Samson, looking out of place.
For Bangladesh, pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib (1/29 in 4 overs) looked quicker than what the speedometer displayed and Mustafizur Rahaman (1/33 in 4 overs) as usual used his change of pace deliveries to good effect.
But leg-spinner Rishad Hossain (2/27 in 3 overs) should be given a lot of credit for giving the ball air and getting the prized scalps of Gill and Shivam Dube, usually a fine player of wrist spinners, bringing Bangladesh back in the game after a poor Powerplay.
When India started batting, the first three overs of the Powerplay was uneventful but in the fourth over, Gill and Abhishek took 21 runs off left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed with a six each in their kitty.
Bangladesh's most experienced T20 bowler Mustafizur was greeted by Abhishek with a six over long-on that landed near the Indian dugout and bounced into the middle tier.
The over ended with innings 50 completed and Abhishek's third six -- a slashed six over backward point.
India were cruising at 72 for no loss in the powerplay with last three overs costing 56 runs.
Once Gill (29 off 19 balls) was holed out off Rishad, Abhishek duly completed his second successive half-century in the tournament off 25 balls.
The ploy to send Dube (2) to attack their wrist spinner didn't work out as Rishad got his second wicket with a leg-break that the burly Mumbai hitter wanted to slog against the turn.
Once Abhishek was run-out, India completely lost the momentum but the score was more than good enough for Bangladesh.&nbsp;

The Indian trio of all-rounder Hardik Pandya, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and aggressive opener Abhishek Sharma retained their respective top positions in the ICC T20 rankings, released on Wednesday.
Chakravarthy, who became the top-ranked bowler last week, has consolidated his place with a 14 rating points gain taking him to 747 points.
Following an 11-place jump last week, Pakistan's Abrar Ahmed has made another massive leap, this time by 12 spots.
After a temporary dip in form, which saw him lose four ranking positions last week, Bangladesh's seasoned T20I pacer Mustafizur Rahman is back in top 10 courtesy a six-place jump. The left-arm pacer has grabbed six wickets at an average of eight in his last two outings in the tournament.
Pandya who continues to lead the all-rounder's list has also made bowling gains, moving up six places up to 60.
Among the batters, opener Abhishek made rating points gains while retaining his place as the No.1 ranked T20I batter. He hit a quick-fire 38 against Oman during India's final group stage clash, before smashing a match-winning 74 to chase down Pakistan&rsquo;s total of 171 on Sunday.
Tilak Varma, who helped finish the chase against Pakistan with an electric 30 not out off 19, moved up a rung to No.3.
Skipper Suryakumar Yadav too gained a place to move within touching distance of the top five.
Sahibzada Farhan, who smashed a 58 off 45 to get Pakistan going in the same game, jumped 31 spots to reach 24th place.
Hussain Talat who guided Pakistan to a win against Sri Lanka with a composed innings, jumped an astronomical 1474 spots to become the joint 234th placed in the men's T20I batter rankings.
Another massive gainer was Saif Hassan, whose 61 had helped Bangladesh get to a winning start in Super Fours at Asia Cup. The batter gained 133 places to reach the 81st ranking in the batting charts.

Having overpowered Pakistan in an intense tussle, a battle-hardened Indian team will square off in another potentially volatile Asia Cup Super 4 game against Bangladesh on Wednesday when it is expected to encounter some quality spinners.
In terms of statistics, this is supposed to be another lopsided one as Bangladesh have won only once in 17 head-to-head encounters between the two teams in the T20 format.
But since the 2015 ODI World Cup and a benefit of doubt life to Rohit Sharma at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, it has gotten bitter between the two teams, thanks to the partisan young fans, many of whom perceive India as an adversary.
India's diplomatic relations with Bangladesh after the toppling of the Sheikh Hasina Government have been rocky.
The BCCI even postponed a white-ball series, which was scheduled in August this year, to 2026 provided there is a democratically elected government in place.
On paper, Bangladesh are no match for India. T20Is aren't even Bangladesh's strength and if all goes well, it could be another thumping win for Suryakumar Yadav's men.
But the fickle nature of the format and the slightly better spin attack of Bangladesh means they could spring a surprise.
However, it is the gulf in standard of batters across two sides that is ultimately going to be the difference.
In the Indian team, one opener Abhishek Sharma is in the form of his life, scoring runs at a strike rate of nearly 210, while his partner in crime Shubman Gill has propped up his to nearly 158 rate after the last Pakistan game.
In comparison, Bangladesh's two best T20 batters -- skipper Litton Das (129 plus) and Towhid Hridoy (SR 124 plus) have mediocre numbers to show for their efforts.
Bangladesh's best chance is to make India bat first and expect that Mustafizur Rahman, at the death, and the two spinners -- leg-break bowler Rishad Hossain and off-spinner Mahedi Hasan -- choke the run-flow in the middle overs to make a game out of it.
Bangladesh's batting unit collectively doesn't have the power game to dominate Indian bowlers but where they can create a bit of problem is by restricting India in the 150-160 range which will be chaseable for them.
For India, there is one minor issue which the team's analytics department must have taken note of and that is Tilak Varma's struggles against spin this year.
Noted analytics site 'CricMetric' has provided a lowdown of Tilak's strike-rate against spin in T20Is across 2024 and 2025.
In 2024, Tilak played 61 deliveries against slow bowlers in five games and scored 116 runs at a strike-rate of 190 plus. His dot ball percentage against spinners was 21.3.
But in 2025, Tilak has scored only 92 runs off 80 balls in seven innings at a strike-rate of 115 and a dot ball percentage of 38.
The left-hander has been way more comfortable against quicker bowlers and scored freely with lofted shots.
But against spinners, when the ball slightly grips and comes late, he has been struggling. With Tilak and Sanju both expected to bat at Nos 4 and 5, they will have some job to do if there is a mini collapse which can happen in any game.
Rinku Singh is a far better player of spin bowling compared to Tilak but when it comes to the Indian team management over the years, the batting unit has been more about continuity.
Bangladesh's five-pronged bowling, which has Mustafizur, Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib as the three front-line pacers, is decent if not extraordinary.
Mustafizur, with years of IPL experience and variations in slow bowling, will certainly ask a few probing questions that Indian batters might need to answer.

The Suryakumar Yadav-led India will ideally prefer to bat first and make full use of the 20 overs when they take on an embattled Oman in their final Asia Cup group league game that will be played in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Having already qualified for the Super 4s and with one eye on the important rematch against arch-foes Pakistan on Sunday, the Oman game is a perfect opportunity for the team management to just get some wood on leather after two lopsided low-scoring chases in the first two games.
While Abhishek Sharma has got a couple of blazing starts, Shubman Gill might want to bat a bit longer. Skipper Suryakumar had a good outing against Pakistan but he would like Tilak Varma to get some more batting time.
Ideally, the the middle-order lineup of Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube and Axar Patel would all like to get some decent hit out there in the middle before the business week of the tournament commences, with four games in a space of seven days if India make it to the final.
Such is the quality of the Indian bowling line-up that in case Oman bat first, there is every chance of the match finishing early as Jatinder Singh and Co. have very little chance of negotiating the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy.
In Oman's two games against Pakistan and the UAE, their batting was evidently not at its best.
The two totals of 67 and 130, while chasing in a losing cause, don't exactly paint a rosy picture. Such has been their plight that across two games, not a single batter has crossed the individual score of 30.
Hammad Mirza scored 27 against Pakistan while Aryan Bisht made a painstaking 24 off 32 balls against UAE.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir might not like to experiment too much with the line-up except for giving a bit of breather to his lethal weapon Jasprit Bumrah -- that too if he chooses to -- before the Super 4s.
With only four overs to bowl and well rested after the Pakistan game, Bumrah himself might not want a break that badly but one needs to be extra cautious when it comes to taking care of the "jewel in the crown".
That will also give the team a chance to check out Arshdeep Singh, who has been missing out due to the think tank's obsession with multi-skilled cricketers and batting depth till No. 8.
If Gambhir wants to be slightly more experimental, then he can also play Harshit Rana, giving one among Varun or Kuldeep a rest. This will also be the only game where Suryakumar can rejig his batting order a bit.
On a different note, it will also be a welcome departure from all the unwanted controversy surrounding Suryakumar and his team's refusal to shake hands with Pakistan players as a mark of respect for the 26 Indian tourists killed in the Pahalgam terror attack.
The only unknown factor will be the track at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, where India will play their only game of this tournament. In fact, the Indian team isn't even going to Abu Dhabi for training as it's a two-hour one-way bus drive.
In any case, the Indian team does a mandatory three-hour net session on training days and a four-hour bus journey (two on either side) would have certainly exhausted the players.
Therefore, they have opted for the 'in and out' policy wherein they travel on match day, play the game and return at night before taking an entire Saturday off ahead of playing Pakistan on Sunday.

Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy on Wednesday rose to the top of the ICC T20 Bowlers' Rankings for the first time in his career, becoming only the third Indian to achieve this feat.
The 34-year-old emulated fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi by moving up three spots following spells of 1/4 against the UAE and 1/24 in against Pakistan.
Chakaravarthy, whose previous best was second place in February 2025, displaced New Zealand&rsquo;s Jacob Duffy, who had held the top position since March.
"India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been rewarded for his consistent form in 2025 by becoming the No.1 ranked bowler on the latest ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings," the ICC said in a statement.
Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav has made a significant leap, jumping 16 places to 23rd, while spin all-rounder Axar Patel has moved up one place to 12th.
Bumrah has also improved his position, rising four spots to 40th.
In the all-rounders' rankings, Hardik Pandya continues to hold the top spot, while Abhishek Sharma has climbed four places to 14th.
Abhishek has also consolidated his position at the top of the T20 batting rankings. His explosive innings of 30 off 16 balls against the UAE and 31 off 13 against Pakistan have helped him achieve a career-high 884 rating points.
His opening partner Shubman Gill has moved up four places to 39th. However, Tilak Varma and captain Suryakumar Yadav have slipped in the rankings.
Tilak is down two spots to fourth, while Suryakumar has dropped one position to seventh. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was not included in the Asia Cup squad, has also fallen two places to 13th.
The England opening pair of Phil Salt and Jos Buttler have advanced one spot each to second and third positions, respectively, after their scintillating performances in the second T20 against South Africa in Manchester.

Pakistan may have withdrawn the threat to pull out of the Asia Cup but their objection to match referee Andy Pycroft still stands and the PCB has shot off another letter to the ICC demanding that the Zimbabwean be swapped with Richie Richardson for the team's remaining games.
It has been reliably learnt that late on Tuesday evening, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sent another mail to the ICC reiterating the demand to remove Pycroft from all its games but as of now, it hasn't been obliged by the world body.
Pycroft is due to officiate Pakistan's must-win game against the UAE later this evening.
The controversy began after Indian players led by skipper Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with the Pakistan team at the end of their match on Sunday. Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha didn't attend the post-match presentation ceremony in protest.
PCB blamed Pycroft for the fiasco, saying that he asked Salman not to shake hands with Suryakumar and also did not allow the exchange of team-sheets between the two skippers as is the norm.
Suryakumar, on his part, stated that the decision to avoid handshakes with the cross-border rivals was a gesture of solidarity towards the victims of the Pakistan-backed Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian Armed Forces which carried out Operation Sindoor in retaliation.
Pakistan, however, labelled Indian players' actions as "unsporting", while blaming Pycroft for acting in a partisan manner. The accusations were followed by a pullout threat and a formal demand to have Pycroft removed by the ICC, which rejected the plea.
Pakistan stand to lose close to USD 16 million if they act on the threat and it would also be very poor optics for the country's cricket board which is headed by the current chair of the Asian Cricket Council, Mohsin Naqvi.
In its initial letter to the ICC, PCB had stated: "The match referee failed to discharge his responsibility: to ensure that respect was extended and maintained amongst the captains as well as between the two competing sides; and to create a positive atmosphere by his conduct and encourage the captains and participating teams to do likewise.
"In fact, the match referee's instructions to the two team captains were entirely directed towards achieving the opposite result. This misconduct violates Article 2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Match Officials, which specifically makes it an offence for the Match Referee to conduct himself in a manner, which is contrary to the spirit of game and violates the MCC Laws." "Given the gravity, political nature/background, and far-reaching consequences and repercussions, the misconduct has also caused disrepute to the game." As per article 2.1.1 of ICC's Code of Conduct, "spirit of the game may be defined by reference to the Preamble to the Laws of Cricket and involves respect for, amongst others (a) the role of the umpires and (b) the game and its traditional values." However, handshakes between rival players is a mere convention and not prescribed under any laws of the game.
Pakistan's leading daily, 'Dawn' has quoted a PCB source as saying that Pakistan team director Naveed Akram Cheema had been told that Pycroft was acting at the behest of BCCI.
"A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) source, requesting anonymity, told Dawn.com on Monday that Cheema had also approached tournament director Andy Russell with his concerns, upon which he was informed that the match referee had been acting at the behest of the BCCI," the report stated.

After much back-and-forth, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has withdrawn its pullout threat and will field the team in its last Asia Cup group league game against UAE in Dubai on Wednesday.
According to PCB insiders, a "middle-of-the-road" agreement was reached under which match referee Andy Pycroft will not be officiating matches involving Pakistan with Richie Richardson being summoned to do duty in their must-win fixture.
Post the loss on Sunday, when the Indian players refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts as a mark of respect to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed, the PCB had asked for the removal of Pycroft from the tournament citing violation of ICC rules and regulations, only to be rejected by the game's global governing body.
Incidentally, the rejection letter that the PCB received from the ICC was signed by its general manager Waseem Khan, who was formerly the beleaguered cricket board's CEO.
The day was full of intrigue after the ICC rejected PCB's plea. It is understood that they finally managed to convince the ICC to allow Richardson to officiate the UAE game, which is a face-saver for PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the interior minister in the Shahbaz Sharif government.
A section of the Pakistan media reported that Naqvi's scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Sharif earlier in day was primarily related to interior ministry affairs and had little to do with the Asia Cup pullout threat.
In fact, if Pakistan had pulled out of the tournament, they would have lost around USD 16 million, which is a significant amount for a cricket board not half as rich as the BCCI.
Earlier, there was a scheduled press conference in the evening ahead of the UAE game but around an hour and a half before the Pakistan team's arrival for training, it was cancelled.
"They want to keep cards close to the chest and not answer any questions about boycott," a PCB insider, aware of developments, had told PTI earlier in the day.
Amid the buzz that the team might skip the training, the players checked in even as the Indians continued with their gruelling session, which had entered the third hour by then.
The intensity of the two training sessions said it all about the gulf in standards that is widening exponentially with each passing day.
While the Indians had a full-fledged warm-up session with even the likes of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma doing Bronco runs under Adrian Le Roux, the Pakistan team's training comprised an archaic passing-the-football session, something that was in vogue 15 years back.
While one can argue that the team is relaxed despite the on-field hammering from India and the off-field issues, the noise and banter in the company of the strength and conditioning coach did tell a story about suppressed tension, even as the Indian media watched the session from close.
Not once did any Pakistani player venture towards the Indian arena to have a look as their nets started under head coach Mike Hesson.
Meanwhile, on the request of the Indian media contingent, skipper Suryakumar Yadav cut a cake to celebrate his 35th birthday belatedly. His birthday was on Sunday (September 14), when India notched up a convincing victory over Pakistan.

The BCCI was left without a shirt sponsor for the team after the government banned real money gaming platforms including Dream 11 under a new legislation.
The team is currently playing the Asia Cup in Dubai without a title sponsor.
"The deal has been signed with Apollo Tyres. We will announce it soon," said a senior BCCI official.
It is reliably learnt that the three-year deal is valued at Rs 579 crore, higher than the Rs 358 crore agreement with Dream 11 for the same duration. The deal with the tyre major covers 121 bilateral games and 21 ICC games.
Dream 11 shut down its real money games due to the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025', which states that "no person shall offer any, aid, abet, induce, indulge, engage in offering online money gaming services nor shall involve in any advertisement which directly or indirectly promotes any person to play any online money game".
The BCCI had released the invitation for Express of Interest for the team's lead sponsor rights earlier this month, confirming that there will be no shirt sponsor for the ongoing Asia Cup.
The Board had barred companies dealing in real money gaming, cryptocurrency, tobacco, and alcohol from the process.

The ICC on Tuesday rejected Pakistan's demand to remove match referee Andy Pycroft from the panel of officials for the ongoing Asia Cup despite the PCB's reported threat of a pullout after blaming the Zimbabwean for the "no handshake" furore that followed the game against India.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had filed a complaint with the ICC alleging that Pycroft asked its captain Salman Ali Agha not to shake hands with his Indian counterpart Suryakumar Yadav at the time of toss in their Asia Cup match on Sunday.
"Late last night, ICC had sent a reply to PCB stating that Pycroft won't be removed and their plea has been rejected," an ICC source told PTI.
The 69-year-old Zimbabwean is due to officiate Pakistan's final group stage game against the UAE on Wednesday.
Pakistan team manager Naved Cheema had also filed a complaint with the Asian Cricket Council alleging that it was on Pycroft's insistence that team sheets weren't exchanged between the two skippers on Sunday as is the norm.
After the match that India won by seven wickets, Suryakumar and his men did not exchange handshakes with their cross-border rivals as a mark of respect for the Pahalgam terror attack victims and their families.
Pycroft is one of the senior-most match referees in ICC Elite Panel with 695 international games to his credit (men and women across three formats).
It is reliably learnt that the situation arose due to PCB's Director of Cricket Operations Usman Walha, who didn't apprise his own skipper about the rules and regulations that are to be followed during the tournament.
It is learnt that an irate PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the current chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), ordered the sacking of Walha on Monday for the embarrassment caused to the national cricket team and its captain.
According to well-placed sources, it was Walha's duty to inform Salman about the "No Handshake" policy but he didn't do so and the Pakistan skipper was apparently caught unawares by the turn of events.
"Walha should have released a statement at the toss itself when the two captains didn't shake hands. Naqvi apparently was furious as he handled it poorly," a PCB source said.
The PCB had wanted Pycroft to be removed from the entire tournament but now it would be interesting to see if they continue playing after the ICC, headed by India's Jay Shah, summarily rejected their demand.
It is understood that PCB is trying to work out a respectable solution by which Pycroft doesn't officiate in their matches.
One proposal given by the PCB is to have Richie Richardson stand in its match against the UAE on Wednesday but whether that would happen or not is the big question.

Pakistan had earlier taken up the issue with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), labelling the Indian players' conduct as "unsporting".

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused urgent listing of a plea seeking cancellation of the cricket match between India and Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup.
The matter was mentioned before a bench of Justices J K Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi by a lawyer for urgent listing.
"What is the urgency? It's a match, let it be. Match is this Sunday, what can be done? the bench observed.
When the lawyer submitted that the cricket match is scheduled on Sunday and the petition would become infructuous if the matter is not listed on Friday, the bench said, "Match is this Sunday? What can we do about that? Let it be. Match should go on." The petition filed by four law students led by Urvashi Jain said organising a cricket match with Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor sends a message inconsistent with national dignity and public sentiment.

"Cricket between nations is meant to show harmony and friendship. But after the Phalagam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, when our people died and our soldiers risked everything, playing with Pakistan sent the opposite message that while our soldiers sacrificing their lives, we are celebrating sports with the same country sheltering terrorists (sic)," the plea submitted.
The petitioners added, "It can also hurt the sentiments of the families of the victims who lost their lives in the hand of the Pakistani terrorist. The dignity of nation and security of citizens come before entertainment." The plea said a cricket match between the two countries was "detrimental to the national interests" and morale of the armed forces and the nation as a whole.

Kuldeep Yadav's artistry was too much for a clueless UAE to comprehend as India hardly broke a sweat in an emphatic nine-wicket victory in their Asia Cup opener in Dubai on Wednesday.
Kuldeep didn't show any signs of rustiness as India dismissed the home team for a paltry 57 in 13.1 overs and then cantered home in just 4.3 overs.
Abhishek Sharma (30 off 16 balls) continued his blazing run in the company of best friend Shubman Gill (20 not out off nine), who also looked in ominous touch on his return to T20 cricket.
Call it an irony, it was left-arm spinner Simranjeet Singh, who once bowled to Shubman in his pre-teens, was hit for the winning runs by the Indian vice-captain.
India's batting effort was more like a highlights package and a glorified net session with UAE bowlers having very little clue on where to pitch the ball.
That the match would end way before time was clear once captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to field.

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav on Tuesday said his side will not hold back on aggression in the high-voltage Asia Cup clash against Pakistan on September 14 as it is an important aspect of playing international sport.
His Pakistani counterpart Salman Ali Agha had identical views -- no instructions but no shying away from it either. Before the Pakistan game, India will open their campaign against the UAE on Wednesday.
"Temper? Sir, aggression is always there on the field when we take the field. And without aggression, I don't think you can play this sport. And I'm sure, I'm very excited to take the field on the front foot," Suryakumar replied when asked whether players will be told to dial down the intensity in the much-awaited Sunday clash of the T20 event.
The Asia Cup match is being held in the backdrop of border tensions between India and Pakistan after 26 tourists were killed by terrorists in Pahalgam earlier this year leading to military action by India under Operation Sindoor.
Salman held a similar view on aggression but added that he wouldn't be issuing any specific instructions to his players.
"Well, you don't need to say anything to any player. Because everyone is individually very different. If someone wants to be aggressive on the field, they are more than welcome to do that.
"When it comes to fast bowlers, they are always aggressive," Salman said.
The captains' press conference and the trophy unveiling ceremony was followed by a question and answer session. The emcee requested the media to ask only apolitical questions.
In fact, Suryakumar and Salman weren't even seated together as Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan took the place between them.
The Indian skipper was also asked if he would like to see a change in his team's approach and philosophy.
"Why are you needling me?" he cheekily retorted.
"When you play a format you need to know how good is your preparation. Why mend something that isn't broken? If something has given us results why would we need to change that aspect separately?" he said.
There was the inevitable question about who among Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma will make the cut in the playing XI on Wednesday.
Like all other skippers, Suryakumar also kept cards close to his chest but did not let go of his trademark cheeky humour while responding to the query on Samson as the scribe who threw the question at him also hailed from the keeper-batter's native state Kerala.
"I will message you the whole team sir," he laughed and then in a slightly serious tone added: "We are taking good care of him. Don't worry, we will take the right decision tomorrow." When quizzed on the pressure of being title favourites, he admitted that there is pressure of coming good.
"Who said that? (favourites) I haven't heard it. But you have played in this format and you know how your preparations are. If your preparations are good, then you will be very confident when you take the field. We are playing T20 as a team after a long time." For Salman, the challenge is to prove that the team has moved beyond Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan -- the two senior players who were dropped.
"We are playing very good cricket. I think for almost four months, we have won three series out of four. So we are doing very well as a team and at the same time, we are very excited.
"A lot of the boys will play Asia Cup for the first time but they are ready for the challenge," he added.

The tried and tested template of all-rounders adding adequate balance will once again be India's mantra even as they remain undecided on whether to go with a third spinner or a specialist pacer in their opening Asia Cup game against hosts United Arab Emirates in Dubai on Wednesday.
Since he took over, head coach Gautam Gambhir has stressed on multi-skilled players across formats, especially those who can add batting depth to make sure that the line-up can add runs till as deep as No.8.
The match against UAE will be a dress rehearsal for the big game against Pakistan on September 14. The perceived minnows will give the Indian team management an idea about the combination that can be consistently fielded going deeper into the tournament.
For UAE, it will be the biggest match for a lot of players. Facing a Jasprit Bumrah or bowling to a Shubman Gill isn't a common occurrence in the life of an Associate nation cricketer and Asia Cup does bring them closer to elite environments.
In the Indian set-up, the Sanju Samson vs Jitesh Sharma puzzle seems to have been solved for the time being with the Vidarbha keeper's skills as a finisher being rated higher than Kerala swashbuckler's pyrotechnics at the top.
The re-entry of Shubman Gill at the top of the order has certainly forced a realignment in strategy as Samson, despite being a free-flowing stroke-maker, looks set to sit out because of the need to get the combination right.
Samson is not an option beyond top three and with Gill and Abhishek Sharma opening the batting, the only slot available was No.3.
But Tilak Varma has been exceptional in that position, rising up to No.2 in ICC T20I batters' rankings while skipper Suryakumar Yadav is a natural at either No.3 or 4.
Following them are the multi-skilled cricketers. At number five, there is Hardik Pandya, who on his day is as good a fast bowler as any front-line pacer apart from being a brilliant batter.
Then comes southpaw Shivam Dube, who can butcher spin bowling even on slowish tracks. With incessant push from bowling coach Morne Morkel, he is also bowling his seam-up stuff more during net sessions.
At No.7, keeper-batter Jitesh could be perfect fit considering the kind of performances he delivered during RCB's maiden IPL-winning season.
At No. 8, Gambhir has always preferred batting depth. As a result, Axar Patel, the mean wicket-to-wicket left-arm spinner and a lusty hitter, gets his pride of place in that slot.
Jasprit Bumrah, India's greatest fast bowler after Kapil Dev, and India's most successful T2OI bowler Arshdeep Singh are automatic choices leaving only one place up for grabs.
The Asia Cup being played in September means that Dubai International Stadium track will have a greener and fresher look with more bounce and carry compared to the tracks in March, when it is completely worn out.
The conditions warranted four spinners in the eleven for 50-over Champions Trophy -- Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy.
On Wednesday, there could be a place for only one more spinner -- either Varun Chakravarthy, who has been phenomenal in T20Is since his international comeback, or the mercurial Kuldeep Yadav, who despite his superb skill-set always seems to get the rough end of the stick.
During India's practice session on Monday that was attended by the full team, Abhishek, who also bowls left-arm spin, was seen rolling his arm over for a considerable period of time.
For UAE, the tournament is a great opportunity to showcase skills and the likes of Muhammad Waseem, Rahul Chopra, and Simranjeet Singh are more than eager to make a mark under seasoned coach Lalchand Rajput.
"We had a good preparation playing the three nation T20 tournament in Sharjah. We had Pakistan five down for less than 100 in one game. We should have closed that game," Rajput told PTI.
"Against India, we know it is a tough game but also an opportunity to test ourselves against the best in world cricket. It is a tough match but I am a Khadoos Mumbaikar. My boys won't let India have it easy," he promised.
