Accusing the Election Commission of "colluding" with the ruling party in Bihar, senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Friday claimed that cash and benefits -- including Rs 10,000 to women -- were distributed to voters despite the model code of conduct being in force in the then poll-bound state.
The former chief minister of Rajasthan termed the trends of the Bihar assembly election results &ldquo;disappointing&rdquo; and said pension payments and cash transfers continued unabated during the campaign period.
"The assembly results are disappointing. It seems to me that the payments of Rs 10,000 to women were continuing even when the election campaign was on; such a thing never happens," Gehlot told reporters in Jaipur.

He said that during the assembly elections in Rajasthan in 2023, the distribution of mobile phones under a scheme and pension disbursements were immediately halted the moment the code came into effect.
"In Bihar, the Election Commission remained a mute spectator. Why did it not stop this? It did not intervene at all," he alleged.
"When you do not ensure fair elections, when booth capturing or dishonesty takes place, and the Election Commission takes no action, that is vote theft. There was clear collusion with the ruling party," Gehlot said.
He claimed that the BJP had amassed money power, which posed a threat to democracy, adding that the country needs Congress and its ideology.
Speaking about the Anta bypoll, Gehlot said that the Congress candidate was heading towards a victory.

Gehlot&rsquo;s remarks followed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge&rsquo;s statement that those who distort history will never be able to make it.
In a post on X, Gehlot claimed that the BJP-RSS is trying to alter the history of India&rsquo;s freedom movement. He pointed out that several regimes with similar ideologies had previously attempted to rewrite history, but their efforts were dismissed by historians.

He also drew a parallel to Pakistan and Bangladesh, where leaders like Zia-ul-Haq tried to distort history, falsely claiming victory in the 1971 war with India. In Bangladesh, efforts are being made to erase the contributions of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which Gehlot argued undermines the credibility of these nations on the world stage.
Gehlot also expressed concern over the deteriorating health of farmer leader Jagdeep Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for 51 days, demanding attention from the Centre and Punjab government. He criticized the governments for their lack of responsiveness, linking the current protests to the previous deaths of over 700 farmers during the agitation against the three farm laws. Gehlot questioned why the government was unwilling to engage with farmers&rsquo; representatives to resolve the issues.

The incident happened at the Barmer Circuit House on Friday night when the chief minister was interacting with a group of women to collect feedback on various government schemes meant for them.
As the chief minister tried addressing the group, the mike malfunctioned and, apparently angry, he threw it at the Barmer district collector. The collector then picked up the mike.
The chief minister again lost his composure when he saw some people standing behind the group of women, and asked them to go away.
"Where is SP (superintendent of police)? Both SP and collector seem to be similar," he said.
Gehlot was on a two-day tour of Barmer. &nbsp;During the event, the women told the chief minister about various benefits of the schemes and thanked him for increasing the honorarium of anganwadi workers.&nbsp;

Referring to the dirt of corruption, a Congress MLA in Rajasthan urged Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday to "leave toilet and join Pilot" in his campaign in the interest of the party.
In a letter to Gehlot, Sangod MLA Bharat Singh Kundanpur also asked him to "stop giving protection to the corrupt 'Bhaya'," referring to Rajasthan Mining and Gopalan Minister Pramod Jain Bhaya.
Kundanpur wrote about to an effigy of Ravan kept in his Kota office in the letter, saying he and other party workers have often used it during protests against the "wrong doings" of the previous BJP rule.
