Asad and his associate Ghulam had allegedly planned to attack the police convoy transporting his father Atiq Ahmed, as per sources quoted by news outlet NDTV.
Asad's plan was not to help Atiq escape, but to embarrass the Uttar Pradesh government, sources said.
Asad and Ghulam wanted to fire a few rounds at police personnel so that questions are raised about Atiq's security, and his transfer from a Gujarat jail to UP is halted, as per the report.
