An Army aspirant's dreams were crushed more than a month ago after he was thrown off a moving train. He is now admitted at a Ludhiana hospital with a damaged spinal cord.
Twenty-three-year-old Tushar Thakur was part of an altercation with a group of youths, who were reportedly smoking cigarettes on the train. With his lower body paralysed, the Jammu man now struggles to recover and may not be able to walk.
Indian Express reported that the Government Railway Police took more than a month to file an FIR in the case.
"My son had his SSB interview scheduled in Ahmedabad. He aspired to be an Army officer. But now he might not even be able to walk ever. His spinal cord has been damaged," Thakur's father told Indian Express. "We want strict punishment for those persons who have made my son bedridden," he added.
Thakur, making little progress in the hospital, typed a statement to give to the police. "Three boys held me and pushed me out of the moving train. After falling, I don&rsquo;t remember anything, but if I see those persons, I will recognise them," he wrote, Indian Express reported.

At least 80 persons, including women and children, were rescued after they were left stranded amid snowfall in 17,688-feet-high Chang La pass between Leh and Shyok river valley in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the Army said on Sunday.
The midnight operation was carried out by the soldiers of the Trishul Division, Leh-based Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army said.
&ldquo;Soldiers of Trishul Division responded immediately to an emergent situation at icy heights of Chang La to clear a traffic block, working relentlessly for two hours in the night, and brought relief to almost 80 persons including ladies &amp; children stuck amidst the snowfall,&rdquo; the corps wrote on its official social media handle &lsquo;X&rsquo;.

An Army Major and 16 soldiers were allegedly attacked and beaten with rods by the owner and workers on a dhaba in Punjab on Monday. The police has registered an FIR and arrested two people.&nbsp;
The Indian Express reported that Major Sachin Kuntal and soldiers from the Ladakh Scouts were returning from Himachal after winning a snow marathon when they stopped at the dhaba for dinner.&nbsp;
According to the FIR, an argument started between the army men and the dhaba owner over the mode of payment. While the soldiers wanted to pay via UPI, the owner insisted on cash.&nbsp;

An army officer has been sacked after being found guilty of possessing and sharing sensitive information

An Indian Army Major posted with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) has been terminated from service by President Droupadi Murmu after a high-level investigation found him guilty of breaching laid-down national security norms, sources in the defence and security establishment said on Tuesday.
The Army had initiated a probe into the Major's activities in March 2022 when authorities concerned came across his alleged involvement in suspicious activities including possessing and sharing of sensitive information, they said.
The sources said the President, who is also the supreme commander of the three services, signed the order terminating the services of the Major around a week ago while exercising powers under the Army Act, 1950.
The termination order was issued in mid-September and it was notified following the President's approval.
There is no official comment on the termination of the Major.
The termination of the service of the Major was based on the findings of a 'Board of Officers' that was appointed after the allegations surfaced, the sources said.

The Major was suspended last year after the allegations against him came to the fore.
At that time, he was posted with a SFC unit at a location in North India, the sources said.
It is learnt the Major had a link on social media with an operative who is believed to have worked for Pakistani intelligence.
The charges against the Major was of possessing as well as sharing of classified information with unauthorised persons including possible involvement of espionage, the sources said.
They said classified information was found in the Major's phone which is a violation of the laid-down security protocols.
It is learnt that nearly a dozen-and-half defence personnel including a Brigadier-rank official, are being probed separately over possible violation of national security protocol.
They were found to be part of a WhatsApp group called 'Patiala Peg' in which the Major was also part of.
The Army is expected to initiate disciplinary action in the next few weeks against at least a couple of officers including a Brigadier for alleged violation of the force's social media policies, it is learnt.

At least five army personnel, including a couple of officers, were injured when an officer allegedly opened fire and exploded grenades inside a camp in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, official sources said.
The incident took place near Thanamandi and efforts were on to overpower the accused, said to be a major-rank officer, who had reportedly taken shelter inside an armoury, the sources said.
Army officials were tight-lipped about the incident, while the sources said the army had evacuated a village in the close vicinity of the armoury as a precautionary measure.
The sources said the injured were taken to a military hospital and the condition of one of the officers was stated to be "critical".
A few soldiers were also present inside the armoury and were believed to have been taken hostage by the accused, the sources said.

The army has initiated a Court of Inquiry against a major-rank officer who allegedly opened fire on his colleagues and exploded grenades inside a camp in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Friday.
At least five personnel, including three officers, were injured in the Thursday incident at the Neeli post near Thanamandi.
Officials said on Friday that army officers have rushed to the scene to take stock of the situation in view of the "unfortunate happening".
The erring officer has been detained and is being questioned, the officials said, adding a Court of Inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
The tense situation at the camp lasted nearly eight hours before the officer was overpowered inside the armoury late in the evening on Thursday.
Though the army remained tightlipped over the incident, it came out with a post on X late Thursday night, claiming an officer was injured in a likely grenade accident at a post in Rajouri.
"On 05 Oct 23 one officer was injured in a likely grenade accident at a post in Rajouri sector. Officer evacuated and stable post-initial treatment. Further investigation of the incident in progress," the White Knight Corps of the army posted on X.
Official sources said there was a firing practice going on at the camp for the past several days and the accused officer started firing on his colleagues and subordinates without any provocation on Thursday afternoon.
Later, he took shelter inside the armoury of the camp and hurled grenades when the commanding officer, along with his deputy and medical officer, moved near the building in an effort to persuade him to surrender, the sources said.
All three officers were injured when a grenade, hurled by the accused, exploded near them, they said.
Two other soldiers were also injured in the indiscriminate firing by the accused before he was overpowered, the sources said.
On the incident, Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said in a message, "I have received calls about some firing/terrorist attack on army camp in General Area Rajouri. I would like to inform you that no terrorist attack has occurred, it is an unfortunate internal incident of the camp."

Over 50 people have been detained so far for questioning in connection with the attack on the minority community in Jammu and Kashmir's Dhangri village even as a massive search operation to track down the terrorists behind the strike continued on the ninth day on Tuesday, officials said.
Seven persons were killed and 14 others injured in the terrorist attack on January 1.
Following the attack, the administration strengthened Village Defence Guards (VDGs) comprising local volunteers and the border grid to keep a tight vigil on possible infiltration routes, the officials said.

A joint cordon and search operation by the Army, police and CRPF is in progress at over two dozen villages where there were reports of terrorist presence before the attack, the officials said, adding special operational teams of Jammu and Kashmir police, moved from outside Rajouri, have also been deployed at designated locations.
"Anti-terrorist operation is going on at a massive scale to neutralise the terrorists involved in the Dhangri attack.There are some vital leads and we are working on these to bring the culprits to book," Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Mohammad Aslam told PTI.

He said additional troops of the CRPF along with police were deployed in sensitive areas to strengthen vigil.
Officials said over 50 suspects have been detained so far during the ongoing operation and are being questioned for their alleged links with terrorists.
They said several vital leads have been found during questioning of the suspected persons and it was almost clear that the terrorists were present in the town before carrying out the attack.
Police have also deployed additional personnel at border posts as part of enhanced security near the Line of Control (LoC) to keep a close vigil on notorious infiltration routes, the officials said.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to strengthen VDGs and sharpen their firing skills, the officials said the Indian Army held a special firing practice session for the volunteers in Mahadev Menka firing range in Sunderbani sector this morning.
Over 50 VDGs, drawn from different villages along the LoC, took part in the firing practice session which was held in coordination with local police, the officials said.
They said weapon handlers and shooting experts of the Army demonstrated proper use of weapons to VDGs who later practised firing.&nbsp;

According to an Indian Express report, the deceased identified as Lieutenant Colonel Nishant Parmar left a note at the crime scene citing reasons for killing his wife Dimple and ending his life too.&nbsp;
The SHO of the area told the Indian Express that Parmar and his wife, both hailing from Himachal Pradesh had a marital dispute. Their only son was not living with them. The note also revealed that the couple was undergoing counselling, however it did not help.&nbsp;
