A&nbsp;2020 American&nbsp;study&nbsp;in the journal Facial Plastic Surgery &amp; Aesthetic Medicine&nbsp;said that 72% of cosmetic surgeons&nbsp;witnessed a rise in patients wanting cosmetic procedures to improve their selfies.
Researchers say that&nbsp;it&nbsp;is&nbsp;important for people&nbsp;to&nbsp;see&nbsp;the limitations of webcams and understand that they are, at best, a flawed representation of reality.
But these anxieties won&rsquo;t just go away when we meet&nbsp;face-to-face and it&rsquo;s&nbsp;important for everyone to be mindful of them. So, when you meet your co-worker or friend after a long time, maybe don&rsquo;t comment on their change in&nbsp;appearance?&nbsp;We&rsquo;ve all already been through enough.&nbsp;

Led by researchers from Iowa State University in the United States, the findings of the study were published in the journal Frontiers in Psychiatry. The research was conducted at the time when people adhered to stay-at-home orders during the early months of the COVID-19 outbreak. Daily commutes turned into shuffles between the bedroom and the living room and Zoom links eliminated the time spent walking to meeting rooms. Simply put, a lot of people suddenly became more sedentary during the onset of the pandemic.

In order to understand the aftermath of the sedentary lifestyle, more than 3,000 participants from all 50 states of the USA responded to a survey. The participants self-reported how much time they spent doing activities, like sitting, looking at screens and exercising, both before and after the onset of COVID.
Survey data showed participants who were meeting the US Physical Activity Guidelines, that is, nearly 3-5 hours of moderate to vigorous physical activity each week before the pandemic decreased their physical activity by 32% after the pandemic. The same participants reported feeling more depressed, anxious and lonely during the lockdowns.

The&nbsp;yearning for calmness and inner peace was most pronounced in East Asia with 85 per cent picking&nbsp;tranquil vibes&nbsp;over excitement, followed by 82&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;in Latin America,&nbsp;75&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;U.S. and Canada&nbsp;and,&nbsp;73 per cent&nbsp;in&nbsp;Australia and New Zealand.&nbsp;While&nbsp;Eastern and Western Europe stood&nbsp;at 71 per cent and 68 per cent respectively.&nbsp;

Interestingly, Indians and South Asians, in general, were not as inclined towards calmness with only 56 per cent preferring&nbsp;tranquillity&nbsp;over excitement.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The findings may come as a surprise to some as a penchant for calm is generally associated&nbsp;with Eastern cultures.&nbsp;But the survey done&nbsp;in partnership with&nbsp;the Wellbeing for Planet Earth (WPE) Foundation&nbsp;proves that&nbsp;at least in 2020, people across the world were seeking&nbsp;a life of calm.&nbsp;
The researchers say the pandemic might have skewed preferences. Faced with unprecedented stress and&nbsp;uncertainty, the&nbsp;notion&nbsp;of going out and trying exciting things poses&nbsp;too much risk for most, at least for now.

A recent study of 4,100 people in Canada discovered that one in three people actually have the condition.&nbsp;These&nbsp;people&nbsp;can&nbsp;experience reactions such as anger, anxiety or frustration when they watch someone fidget.&nbsp;
The first of its kind study&nbsp;was recently&nbsp;published in&nbsp;Scientific Reports&nbsp;and&nbsp;found that people with&nbsp;misokinesia&nbsp;may&nbsp;face&nbsp;difficulty and reduced enjoyment in social situations, at work&nbsp;or in&nbsp;learning environments. In extreme cases, they might even engage in fewer social activities due to the condition.&nbsp;
While research on the topic is limited, researchers estimate that empathy has a major role to play in the condition. A common reason behind fidgeting&nbsp;can be&nbsp;anxiety or nervousness.&nbsp;The behaviour is also common in people with ADHD. And when people with&nbsp;misokinesia&nbsp;see that, they may mirror it and feel anxious or nervous as well.&nbsp;
While researchers are still looking for&nbsp;a better&nbsp;explanation, the recognition of the condition&nbsp;offers some solace to people who might have thought they were alone&nbsp;or weird&nbsp;because they&nbsp;feel this way.
