Mehul Choksi schemed, bribed senior Antigua cop to delay extradition: report

He said that Choksi has been scheming to illegally extend the court process in Antigua, by paying bribes to government officials, including senior Antigua police official, Adonis Henry.

One of India's most wanted fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi has been buying protection in Antigua by bribing a string of officials according to investigations conducted by Kenneth Rijock, a renowned financial crimes investigator. Rijock made shocking revelations in a news article on Blogger against Mehul Choksi's bribery and conspiracy in Antigua, where officials are interfering with Interpol's efforts to detain him for extradition to India.
He said that Choksi has been scheming to illegally extend the court process in Antigua, by paying bribes to government officials, including senior Antigua police official, Adonis Henry.
Multiple witnesses report that Choksi and Inspector Henry have been meeting at least three times a day at Al Porto, a Jolly Harbor restaurant reportedly owned by Choksi, wrote Rijock in his financial crime blog. Choksi not only reached out to Henry but also tried to influence Antigua magistrate Conliffe Clarke through illegal payments.

Barbara Jarabica, the rumoured girlfriend of Mehul Choksi, in an exclusive interview to India Today &nbsp;claimed that she had no role in the abduction of the fugitive businessman.
In his letter to Antigua Police, Mehul Choksi alleged that he was abducted from Barbara Jarabica's home and taken to Dominica on a boat.&nbsp; He has been in judicial custody in Dominica since May 24, charged with illegally entering the country.
The fugitive businessman said that when he reached Barbara&rsquo;s home to pick her up on May 23 he was beaten by 8-10 men who claimed to be from Antigua Police. He also claimed in his letter that Barbara made no attempts to rescue him or call the police which, he said proved she was an integral part of the plan.

Wanted in the Rs 13,500-crore Punjab National Bank fraud case, Choksi allegedly entered Dominica &lsquo;illegally&rsquo; and has now been detained. He had been staying in Antigua and Barbuda since January 2018 and recently disappeared from there. Choksi is facing two cases in Antigua and Barbuda, one on his extradition to India and the other on the revocation of his citizenship.

Marsh had said he saw marks on the body of Choksi who had swollen eyes and feared for his life. He said Choksi is a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda and not India hence he should be sent back.
Aggarwal called the entire episode of his mysterious disappearance and detention in Dominica "fishy".

Fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi is understood to have gone missing in Antigua and Barbuda with the police launching a manhunt to trace him since Sunday, local media outlets reported. "Antiguanewsroom", a local media outlet, quoted Commissioner of Police on Tuesday that the police are "following up on the whereabouts of Indian businessman Mehul Choksi", who is "rumoured" to be missing.
The media reports say Choksi, who had taken the citizenship of the Caribbean island nation, was seen driving in the southern area of the island on Sunday.
Later, his vehicle was found but there was no trace of Choksi, the reports said.
Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi are wanted for allegedly siphoning off Rs 13,500 crore of public money from the state-run Punjab National Bank.

Mehul Choksi's lawyer, Vijay Aggarwal, confirmed to news agency ANI that he is missing and that his family, and the island nation's police, are looking for him.
Local media reports said Choksi, who had taken the citizenship of the Caribbean island nation, was seen driving in the southern area of the island on Sunday.
According to ANI, Choksi left his home on Monday evening to go for dinner at a well-known restaurant in the southern part of the island and was never seen again. His vehicle was discovered in Jolly Harbour later in the evening, but no sign of him, Antiguan media reported.
Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi are wanted for allegedly siphoning off Rs 13,500 crore of public money from the state-run Punjab National Bank.
