 Six persons died in a fire accident in a chemical factory located in Eluru district and 12 others sustained burns, police said on Thursday.
According to Rahul Dev Sharma, Superintendent of Police, Eluru, the injured are being treated in a Government Hospital in Vijayawada.
He said it is suspected the fire broke out late on Wednesday in the plant's reactor that makes polymer power.
A doctor in the hospital said four of the injured are in serious condition.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy expressed shock over the incident and announced Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased.
According to an official release, he also announced Rs five lakh each to the critically injured and Rs 2 lakh to those who sustained minor injuries.

K T Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, held an emergency meeting with senior officials and reviewed the rescue and relief operations in the city.
He said several trees and electricity poles were uprooted due to the deluge and directed the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) to coordinate with Municipal Administration and Police Departments to ensure that power is restored at the earliest.

Kerala has retained its top spot in the literacy rate ranking in India. The southern state has a 96.2% literacy rate and is followed by Delhi at 89%, the data from a report on education released by the National Statistical Office revealed. While southern states are commonly assumed to be better in literacy, Andhra Pradesh has turned out to be an outlier. The state ranks lowest in all states with just 66.4% literacy. This is much lower than the national average of 77.7%. Not only that, it also fares badly in comparison to poor and backwards states such as Bihar and UP. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand and Assam are on No. 3 and 4 with 87.6% and 85.9% respectively.
