Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nirmala Sitharaman for "resounding reaffirmation" of the government&rsquo;s commitment to drive growth and development with fiscal prudence, Shah said the budget fulfils the target of keeping the fiscal deficit below 4.5 per cent.
Shah said the Budget reflects the vision of a developed India by 2047 and the roadmap for the next 25 years.
"Through the Budget 2026-27, Prime Minister Modi Ji has proven that Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat is not just a slogan, but the resolve of our government. This budget not only provides a clear blueprint for empowering every sector, every class, and every citizen, but also offers a grounded vision to encourage it, which will support it at every step. #ViksitBharatBudget is a vision for building an India that leads in every field in the world," he said.
Shah said a historic decision has been taken in the Budget to launch the Mahatma Gandhi Gram Swaraj Yojana in the direction of realising Mahatma Gandhi's dream of Gram Swaraj. "This will strengthen the rural economy and provide new support to weavers, farmers and the handloom industry," he said.

The Union Home Minister said the decision to benefit three crore farmers through the Coconut Promotion Scheme in coastal areas, promote production and export of cashew and coconut, and conserve sandalwood clearly demonstrates that Prime Minister Modi is fully committed to the prosperity of farmers and to making agriculture a profitable enterprise.
"A visionary decision has been taken in the #ViksitBharatBudget to increase farmers' income through livestock. Increasing the number of veterinarians, expanding veterinary centers and training centers will strengthen the livestock-based economy," he said.
"#ViksitBharatBudget will give unprecedented momentum to connectivity in India. Seven high-speed rail corridors announced today aimed at supercharging inter-city connectivity and slashing down travel time across key economic and population centres of our country," he said.
Shah said decisions such as providing credit-linked subsidies for the dairy and poultry sectors, developing 500 reservoirs to promote fisheries, and providing access to global markets will prove to be milestones in the direction of the Modi government's resolve to increase farmers' income.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth Rs 1,715 crore in Dibrugarh, Assam, including a new assembly complex, sports facilities, wildlife centre, and wetland restoration initiatives.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday launched projects worth Rs 1,715 crore, including the second legislative assembly complex, in Assam's Dibrugarh.
Shah unveiled the projects in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, MPs and MLAs of the upper Assam constituencies, several state cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
He laid the foundation stone for the Rs 284 crore second legislative assembly complex and MLA hostel as a part of the government's efforts to establish Dibrugarh as the second administrative hub.
The project will include a three-storey assembly building, a nine-storey hostel for MLAs, an 800-seat capacity auditorium and a barrack for security personnel.
Shah inaugurated the first phase of the modern multi-disciplinary sports complex worth Rs 238 crore and laid the foundation stone for its second phase, which will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 209 crore.
The first phase of the project includes an indoor stadium, swimming pool, football field, main gallery, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts and hostels.
The second phase of the sports facility will have an additional seating space for 30,000 people, a central playground and an athletic track, officials said.
The home minister laid the foundation stone for the Rs 292 crore Wildlife Health and Research Centre for the treatment of wild animals, and enhanced laboratory facilities along with training units.
These will help improve coordination among forest officials, veterinarians and researchers, the officials said.
The project will include an educational and administrative block, a central laboratory, a museum, a state-of-the-art auditorium, a clinical block and a laboratory with radiation facilities.
Shah also launched the Rs 692 crore project for the restoration and rejuvenation of wetlands under the National Disaster Mitigation fund.
The project is aimed at restoring and rejuvenating 15 scientifically selected wetlands across nine districts to reduce urban flood risks, enhance the water retention capacity, mitigate the risk of flooding and help in overall flood management of the Brahmaputra River basin in the state.

Grief swept through Baramati in Pune district on Thursday as Maharashtra bid farewell to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who lost his life in a tragic plane crash, with his last rites performed with full state honours.
At the packed Vidya Pratishthan ground in Baramati, Pawar&rsquo;s sons Parth and Jay lit the funeral pyre as his wife Sunetra, who is a Rajya Sabha member, struggled to hold back tears, while the air resonated with chants of &ldquo;Ajit Dada amar rahe".
Union ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Murlidhar Mohol, former Union minister Sharad Pawar, who is Ajit Pawar's uncle, and BJP president Nitin Nabin attended the 66-year-old Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief&rsquo;s funeral. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde were also present at the Vidya Pratishthan ground in Baramati, the Pawar family's hometown, located 100 km from Pune.
Thousands of mourners gathered for Ajit Pawar's last rites chanted "Ajit Dada amar rahe", when his mortal remains, draped in the national flag, were brought from his village Katewadi to the Vidya Pratishthan ground.
His cousin Supriya Sule, the NCP (SP) Lok Sabha member from Baramati, stood with Sunetra Pawar to console her as she paid tributes to her late husband.
NCP working president and former Union minister Praful Patel was also present. Announcements over loudspeakers urged people to maintain silence and discipline, and to pay their respects to the late leader from their seats, calling it the greatest tribute to Ajit Pawar, known for his strict sense of discipline.
As the funeral pyre was lit, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar sat in silence. His younger brother Prataprao Pawar was also present.
Earlier, Shah, Gadkari, Nabin, Fadnavis, Union minister Ramdas Athawale, Goa CM Pramod Sawant, Eknath Shinde, former Union minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Maharashtra assembly speaker Rahul Narwekar and Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh were among the leaders who placed floral wreaths on Pawar's mortal remains.
Ajit Pawar's younger brother Shriniwas Pawar, sisters and other family members, including cousin Abhijit Pawar, also paid tributes to their late brother. Former CMs Sushilkumar Shinde and Ashok Chavan, state Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal, party leader Manikrao Thakare and actor Riteish Deshmukh also paid homage.
Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) head and former CM Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray offered floral tributes at Ajit Pawar's residence in Katewadi.

Their mortal remains have been handed over to their families.

The last rites of Pawar (66) would be performed at the sports ground of Vidya Pratishthan in Baramati in Pune district around 11 am. Pawar was killed on Wednesday morning after the chartered Learjet crashed near the Baramati airstrip, around 100 km from Pune.
Two pilots, a flight attendant and a personal security officer were also killed in the accident.
On Thursday morning, the mortal remains of Ajit Pawar were taken from the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Hospital in Baramati, where they were kept overnight, to his Katewadi village near Baramati. The funeral procession will begin at 9 am.
Shiv Sena-UBT leaders Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday met the Pawar family at their residence in Baramati.

Aditi Mishra, Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union president, said that every year, students hold a protest to condemn the violence which occurred on the campus on January 5, 2020.
"All of the slogans raised in the protest were ideological and do not attack anyone personally. They were not directed towards anyone," Mishra told PTI.
A senior police officer said no complaint has been received so far in this matter.
Delhi ministers Ashish Sood and Manjinder Singh Sirsa, however, condemned the incident and blamed the Opposition for supporting those who indulge in such acts.
"Sharjeel Imam spoke about separating Northeast India. Umar Khalid raised slogans of 'India will be broken into pieces,' and his involvement was found in the 2020 riots. Such people are shown sympathy because there are people in this Assembly who shared a stage with Sharjeel Imam," Sood told reporters, ahead of the second day of the Winter Session of the Delhi Assembly.
He said when such people are given patronage, such things are bound to happen.
"What has happened in JNU, where Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid have been supported..., is condemnable and against the nation. You can fight over policy matters, but there is no place for violence in democracy," Sood added.
Echoing similar sentiments, Sirsa alleged that those who raised slogans have no regard for the Constitution or law.
"These are separatist people. Raising such slogans against prime minister and home minister is extremely shameful. The AAP and Congress have always supported such people," he told reporters.
Violence erupted on the campus on January 5, 2020, when a mob of masked men stormed the campus and targeted students in three hostels, unleashing mayhem with sticks, stones and iron rods, hitting inmates and breaking windows, furniture and personal belongings.
At least 28 people, including then JNU Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh, were injured as chaos reigned on the campus for nearly two hours.
The Delhi Police had come under attack for not acting when the mob was running riot on the campus, and especially for naming student union leaders, including Ghosh, in the two FIRs related to vandalism on the campus.

Addressing a press conference Bhubaneswar, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra alleged that Banerjee, while addressing a public meeting in Bankura district, threatened the Home Minister of India that she "allowed" him to come out of the hotel where he was staying in Kolkata.
Patra said, &ldquo;Mamata Banerjee has threatened the Home Minister of India in words which cannot even be thought of. We have seen it. She said that you (Shah) are hiding in a hotel. If we want, you cannot step out of the hotel. You are lucky that we allowed you to come out of the hotel.&rdquo;
Claiming that she had done this "for the sake of infiltrators", he asserted that it is not only a threat to the Union home minister, but also to the entire population of the country.
"You (Banerjee) are not just threatening Amit Shah; you are threatening India," Patra said, adding that this is not the first time that such an incident has happened in West Bengal.
"Our party president JP Nadda&rsquo;s cavalcade was attacked during the previous elections by infiltrators,&rdquo; the Puri MP said.
Patra asserted that Shah has raised issues such as corruption, injustice, and especially the politics surrounding infiltrators in West Bengal.
He also alleged that around 300 BJP activists were killed in West Bengal by goons of the TMC, while 3,000 others had to flee their homes.
"This is Hitler-sahi and tanasahi,&rdquo; Patra alleged. &ldquo;There have been attacks on democracy in Bengal. This is happening in a state which led the country all along. Bengal is now destroyed by Mamata Banerjee,&rdquo; he said.
Patra alleged that the Trinamool Congress supremo has a problem with the names of infiltrators being removed from the electoral rolls.
&ldquo;Mamata Banerjee is threatening the Home Minister of the country for the sake of infiltrators,&rdquo; he alleged.
BJP will form a government with a two-thirds majority in West Bengal, and the party is preparing for that, he said.
Patra said, &ldquo;West Bengal is for Indians and Bengalis, and not for infiltrators. Mamata Banerjee is not allotting land for fencing on the (international) border. She is more worried about infiltrators and Rohingyas than the state. Tunnels are constructed to bring infiltrators, and efforts are made to give them recognition. Once the BJP forms the government, each infiltrator would be identified and evicted.&rdquo;
Noting that Bengal has the history of leading the country on several fronts, Patra alleged that the state&rsquo;s economy, industrialisation and development has suffered a lot due to the &ldquo;appeasement&rdquo; politics of Banerjee.

The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of peddling falsehoods and making baseless claims about securing a two-thirds majority in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
Senior TMC leader and state education minister Bratya Basu told reporters that Shah's remarks were based on hollow assertions and claimed that the BJP would not even cross the 50-seat mark in the polls.
"Shah will keep coming and going like a tourist. Such visits will serve no purpose," Basu said on the sidelines of a programme.
"The BJP will not even cross the 50-mark in the assembly polls and suffer a humiliating defeat," Basu claimed.
Addressing a press conference here, Shah claimed that the BJP would form the next government in the state with a "two-thirds majority in 2026".
"We will not only identify infiltrators, but we'll also drive them out. Bengal will have a new BJP government after April 15, 2026, as people have made up their minds," he said.
Shah also took a dig at the Trinamool Congress government on the issue of women's safety.
"It has been officially stated that women should not step out of their homes after 7 pm. What era are we living in? Are we living in the Mughal period?," he said.
"Mamata ji, this is a free India. Ensuring that women can step out safely whenever they choose is a constitutional right. Your government has failed to provide this basic security," he added.
Criticising Shah over his comments on women's safety in the state, senior TMC leader and minister Sashi Panja urged the Union home minister to visit Bengal during the festive season, like Durga Puja and Christmas, when thousands of women move about freely and participate in festivities.

Panja accused Shah and his party at the Centre of coming in the way of the passage of the Aparajita Bill, which would have ensured exemplary punishment to rapists after conviction.
On Shah's claims about the industrial decline of Bengal, Panja said since 2011, investment of Rs 13.8 lakh-crore came to the state.
"Bengal occupies the second berth in the MSME sector as per the figures available with the Centre, and he is peddling falsehood about the industrial growth of Bengal," she said.
TMC spokesperson Jay Prakash Majumdar also dismissed Shah's assertion that the BJP does not engage in temple-based polarising politics.
"Everyone knows the BJP campaigned on temple-masjid politics in both the 2019 and 2024 elections. This brand of politics will again be rejected by the people of Bengal," Majumdar said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday alleged that the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal was abetting infiltration of Bangladeshis, which has "dangerously altered" the state's demography over the past few years.
Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Shah said people of West Bengal were anxious over infiltration, which the BJP would end after coming to power in the state with a "two-thirds majority in 2026."
"We will not only identify infiltrators, but we'll also drive them out. Bengal will have a new BJP government after April 15, 2026, as people have made up their minds," he said.
Shah said the Centre has not been able to complete fencing of the India-Bangladesh border because the West Bengal government was not providing the required land.
Shah said the party will stop infiltration from the eastern borders and ensure revitalisation of Bengal once it comes to power in the state.
"BJP will form a government in West Bengal with a two-thirds majority," he said.
Shah said members of the Matua community have no reason to fear because of the SIR exercise.
"It is our pledge that all religiously persecuted refugees will be accommodated in the country. Even Mamata Banerjee cannot cause harm to the Matuas," he said.
Shah alleged that the TMC has surpassed the Left in establishing the politics of fear and violence.
"It was believed that the politics of violence and revenge would end once the Communists were defeated, but they have surpassed even the Communists. So far, more than 300 BJP workers have been killed. Over 3,000 BJP workers have still not been able to return to their homes. They are being pressured that they will be allowed there only if they carry the TMC flag," he alleged.
Shah said top TMC leaders have been to jails on charges of swindling public money, with machines to count cash recovered from their homes malfunctioning because of overheating.
"People of Bengal have resolved to replace fear, corruption and misgovernance with good governance," he said.
Shah alleged West Bengal's economy has witnessed an unprecedented slide, with more than 7,000 industries fleeing.
"People of Bengal have given Congress, Left, TMC opportunities to govern, now I appeal to them to give BJP a chance," he said.

The home minister was accorded a traditional 'satriya' welcome by the 'gayan-bayan' (singers and drummers). He also went around the main central building where the 'Guru Asana' (seat of the revered saint) is placed.
The decision to redevelop the site, named 'Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva Abhirbhav Kshetra', was first proposed in the 2021-22 state budget.
The project has been designed not only to make the historic site a major tourist attraction but also to reflect on the life, ideals and artistic heritage associated with Srimanta Sankardeva and the broader cultural traditions of the state.
Sarma said that the project honouring Srimanta Sankardev's legacy strengthens "our commitment to preserving Assam's satras, namghars and cultural heritage". He said that the project will elevate Batadrava Than into a national and international destination for cultural and spiritual tourism, taking Sankardeva's legacy to future generations.
An eviction drive was carried out in December 2022 to clear encroachments from the satra land in Batadrava. The chief minister had earlier said that the state government has taken all efforts to restore the sanctity and grandeur of the place.
"Batadrava Than, freed from encroachments, is now a shining example of what steely resolve can do for the protection of our heritage," the CM said.
The foundation of the redevelopment project was laid by Shah in December 2020.
The Assam government had announced the redevelopment of the spiritual site in the budget proposal of the 2021-22 fiscal and had initially earmarked Rs 188 crore for the project, which has been implemented on 165 bighas of land in three phases.
The entire complex has been conceptualised in the form of a tree, with the 'Guru Asana', the seat of the revered saint, at the centre, from which all other buildings extend like interconnected branches.
The project incorporates traditional Assamese architectural elements and cultural motifs, along with a detailed visual representation of Sankardeva's life. The various buildings have been constructed in the shape of traditional instruments, dance forms, performance styles and aspects of the Assamese lifestyle.
The project also includes an exhibition depicting the life of Lord Krishna, a theatre hall designed for drama, 'bhaona' performances and other cultural presentations along with a centre for performing arts.
The project also includes guest houses for tourists, a tribal guest house, a health centre and the 'Manikanchangriha' &mdash; a space designed to introduce tourists to the artistic dimensions of the 'namghar' (prayer halls) culture intrinsic to Assamese life.
The 'Manikanchan' Jalarashi, a viewing tower for security and surveillance, walkways and designated parking areas for vehicles have also been integrated into the project.

The opposition party also vowed to expose the "vendetta politics" against its leadership, asserting that the Congress cadres are agitated and are going to show their strength against this "misuse of agencies" by the government to target opposition leaders.
"We are fighting politically. We will keep fighting them, both inside and outside Parliament, and also on the streets and will teach them a lesson," party president Mallikarjun Kharge said at a press conference.
In a relief to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and five others, a Delhi court on Tuesday refused to take cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate's money laundering charge against them in the National Herald case, holding that the agency's probe stemmed from a private complaint and not an FIR.
"I want to say that after this judgement Modi and Shah should resign because the court decision is like a slap on their face. They should give resignation as they should not harass people like this," Kharge said at the press conference, which he addressed with party leaders K C Venugopal, Abhishek Singhvi, Jairam Ramesh, and Pawan Khera.
"They should know that if they do such things people will not tolerate it and will not sit quiet, and they will face insult from people," he said.
Kharge said the Congress has been fighting the issue politically by taking out marches since its top leadership was summoned by the probe agencies. "We have been fighting on the streets, in Parliament, outside it, and will continue to do it and teach them a lesson," he said, while welcoming the court verdict and thanking party workers.
He also said that for over past 11 years, there have been more than 50 such key opposition leaders whom the Modi government has made full efforts to intimidate and blackmail by misusing the ED, CBI, and IT. Kharge claimed the National Herald newspaper was started in 1938 and its motto is "Freedom is in Peril, Defend it with All Your Might."
The December 16 court ruling has completely exposed the false allegations, conspiracy, and vengeful intent levelled by the Modi government against the leaders of his party, he said.
Venugopal asserted that the Congress will expose the "vendetta politics" of the Modi government. The entire Congress cadre is agitated and will show its strength all over India against the "misuse of agencies," he said.
"We will expose this vendetta politics on the streets of the country. The entire nation is now agitating. For the past seven years, the Congress party has faced continuous harassment by the ED. Our senior and supreme leadership is being targeted through vendetta politics, and this has agitated every karyakarta.
"We will demonstrate our strength across India. Because this is clearly an example of how ED is systematically misused by the central government to target the opposition leaders," Venugopal said, when asked about the party's further action in the matter.
Singhvi said the law has spoken louder than noise, and termed the National Herald case a story of political vendetta and harassment.
"Today, the law has spoken louder than noise and fiction. They made a money-laundering mansion on the quicksand of an absent, elusive FIR. There is no FIR. Investigative overreach has met judicial oversight. Courts are not theatres for political scripts.
"Events that had happened much before 2014 led to a private complaint by Subramanian Swamy-with a summoning order in 2014. From 2014 to 2021 - seven long years - there are written opinions sought and given by CBI and ED, mentioning that no predicate offence was made out. Obviously, that's why after 2014, they never filed an official complaint," he noted.
Suddenly, he said, a few days before June 30, 2021, "Command comes from the skies - which you can guess where it came from - to register an ECIR." From 2021 to 2025, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and many others, have been interrogated for almost 90 hours, "only to harass them, and to embarrass them, and to create a climate against them," Singhvi said.
The party leader said that on October 3, 2025, a new FIR came because "they" want to keep the pot boiling.
"Today's order is a reminder that criminal law is not a political press release. You cannot weaponise the PMLA and then plead ignorance of a condition of the law itself. This case has always been long on rhetoric and short on legs.
"This is the first one-trick wonder of its kind in PMLA, where they say there is allegedly money laundering, but not one paisa has moved an inch, nor has one property moved one foot," Singhvi said.
Delivering his order in a case that has been marked by a political slugfest and legal battles for several years, Special Judge Vishal Gogne said the cognisance of the ED's prosecution complaint relating to the offence of money laundering was "impermissible in law."
The ED complaint was based on an investigation into a complaint by a private person, Subramanian Swamy, and not on an FIR of a predicate offence, the judge said.

Initiating the debate in the House, Shah said Vande Mataram was the "mantra" that awakened India's cultural nationalism, and remains as relevant today as it was during the freedom struggle.
He stressed that the song will remain relevant in the days to come as well, in taking the country towards Viksit Bharat.
Shah also attacked Congress for questioning the need for a debate on Vande Mataram, and accused first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru of "dividing" the poem and limiting it to two stanzas.
"Yesterday some MPs in the Lok Sabha questioned what is the need to discuss Vande Mataram. The need for discussion...was as relevant when the song was written, during the freedom movement, today, and will be as relevant in 2047 when the Viksit Bharat would be achieved," Shah said.
"Some people are saying Vande Mataram is being discussed because elections are coming in West Bengal... They are trying to reduce the importance of Vande Mataram by linking it with Bengal elections," he said.
The home minister urged members to take the spirit of the message of Vande Mataram to the youth of the nation.
He said the song was written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in Bengal, but it spread across the nation, and became the chant for India's freedom struggle.
The home minister said the song was written years after India tolerated "Islamic attacks", and the British tried to impose a new culture on the country.
"The song reestablished the culture of witnessing nation as a mother. Even though the (British) government tried to ban it, and people were beaten and jailed for chanting Vande Mataram, it touched people's hearts and spread from Kashmir to Kanyakumari," he said.
That is why Maharshi Aurobindo said Vande Mataram is the mantra of India's awakening.
"India is the only nation whose boundaries have not been decided by any act, its borders have been decided by our culture, and culture has united it. That is why the idea of cultural nationalism, this cultural nationalism was awakened by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay," Shah added.
He also accused the Congress and Nehru of 'dividing' the song.
"Many members of Congress questioned why the discussion on Vande Mataram was required, calling it a diversionary tactic. We are not scared of taking up any debate. We do not stall Parliament, we have nothing to hide, we are ready to discuss any issue," Shah said.
"On the 50th anniversary of Vande Mataram in 1937, Jawaharlal Nehru divided it into two and limited it to two stanzas. This was the way Congress honoured Vande Mataram," he said, leading to protests from Opposition MPs.
Shah called it the beginning of appeasement politics, and said it led to partition of India.
"If they had not divided the song into two for appeasement politics, India would also not have been partitioned," he said, leading to more uproars from Opposition benches.
Shah added that in the 100th year of Vande Mataram, the country was under Emergency.

The meeting, to be held at 11 AM, will be attended by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director, Intelligence Bureau, Tapan Deka, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and DG, NIA, Sadanand Vasant Date. DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Nalin Prabhat will attend the meeting virtually.
Shah on Monday said he will hold a detailed analysis on the blast with top security officers this morning.
"Tomorrow morning, we will have a detailed analysis of the blast at the home ministry with senior officers," Shah told reporters after meeting those injured at the LNJP Hospital.
The home minister had said that top investigating agencies were probing the blast with full intensity, and will go in-depth into the explosion which took place in a Hyundai i20 car.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he has reviewed with Home Minister Amit Shah and other officials about the situation following the explosion near the Red Fort metro station on Monday that claimed eight lives, and assured people that those affected are being assisted by the authorities.
The high-intensity explosion in the area milling with people also injured 24. They have been taken to the LNJP hospital, a few kilometres away.
"Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the blast in Delhi earlier this evening. May the injured recover at the earliest," PM Modi said on X.

"Those affected are being assisted by authorities. Reviewed the situation with Home Minister Amit Shah Ji and other officials," he added.
Earlier, government sources said PM Modi had taken stock of the situation and spoken with Shah, and taken an update.
Videos shared by the Chandni Chowk Traders' Association revealed the magnitude of the blast. A mangled body could be seen lying on a vehicle, while another clip showed a body lying on the road. Eyewitnesses said body parts could be seen scattered near the blast site.
A high alert has been sounded in Delhi, and security has been beefed up at city border points, with vehicle checking intensified.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said the car, in which the blast took place, had some occupants.
According to a senior police officer, "The blast occurred in a moving Hyundai i20 car in which three people were sitting. We have not found any pellet or puncture in the body of the injured, which is unusual in a bomb blast. We are investigating all angles."
Police sources said the car was registered in the name of one Nadeem Khan and bore a Haryana number plate.
Ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot as police cordoned off the area, the Delhi Fire Services said. The blaze caused by the blast was brought under control by 7.29 pm, officials said.
According to a fire department official, six cars, two e-rickshaws and one autorickshaw were gutted in the fire.
The blast was so powerful that it shattered the window panes of vehicles parked several metres away, and the sound was heard at ITO, a few kilometres from the site.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Bihar CM Nitish Kumar in Patna during his three-day visit, ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. Shah will address public and organisational events for the NDA.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a three-day visit to poll-bound Bihar, met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna on Friday. BJP sources said it was a courtesy meeting between Shah and Kumar, also the JD(U) supremo.
Shah, accompanied by senior BJP leaders, including Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, met Kumar at 1 Anne Marg, the official residence of the CM here. Senior JD(U) leaders, including the party&rsquo;s working national president Sanjay Jha, were also present at the meeting.
Elections to the 243-member assembly will be held in two phases, on November 6 and November 11, while counting of votes will take place on November 14.
Later in the day, Shah is scheduled to address a public meeting in Saran in favour of NDA nominees in Amnaur and Taraiya assembly seats. He will also address a gathering of intellectuals at Gyan Bhawan in Patna, said a BJP leader.
Besides, the home minister will hold BJP's organisational discussions and meet leaders of alliance partners during his three-day visit. State BJP president Dilip Jaiswal had received Shah at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport here on Thursday evening.
During his Bihar tour, Shah is also likely to participate in processions before the filing of nomination papers by some NDA candidates.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised Operation Sindoor for targeting Pakistani terror infrastructure and announced a new NSG hub in Ayodhya during the force&rsquo;s 41st Raising Day celebrations.

Operation Sindoor ensured the devastation of headquarters, training centres and launchpads of terrorist groups in Pakistan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday, asserting that no place is safe for terrorists anymore.
Addressing the 41st Raising Day of the anti-terror 'Black Cat' commando force National Security Guard (NSG) at its headquarters here, Shah also said the Indian security forces are resolutely determined to go to the depths of the Earth to punish every act of terror.
"Operation Sindoor has ensured the devastation of Pakistani terror headquarters, their training centres and launchpads... In Operation Mahadev, our security forces carried out precise action to eliminate the terrorists who carried out the terror attack in Pahalgam. It has further strengthened the confidence of the citizens in the security forces," he said.
Under Operation Sindoor, the Indian defence forces targeted terror infrastructure and defence installations in Pakistan in May, following an attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 lives.
The home minister said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism.
If one analyses the government's campaign against terrorists carefully, from abolishing Article 370 (which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir) to surgical strike, air strike and Operation Sindoor, it will become clear that the security forces have hit at the very roots of terrorists and terror groups, Shah said.
"No matter where terrorists hide, our security forces have proven that no place is safe for terrorists anymore. Our soldiers are resolutely determined to go to the depths of the Earth to punish every act of terror," he said.
Since 2019, he said, the central government has taken a number of steps to protect the country from terror threats.
These include amendments to Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and National Investigation Agency Act, besides actively pursuing cases registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by the Enforcement Directorate to investigate the funding of terror groups, he added.
Shah said the government has also established a system for scientific investigation of terror funding, banned the terror group Popular Front of India, and strengthened the Multi Agency Centre for gathering and sharing intelligence inputs on terror groups across the country.
"For the first time, we have defined terrorism in the new criminal laws and filled the gaps previously found in the courts. So far, we have declared more than 57 individuals and numerous organisations as unlawful," he said.
Over the years, he said, the NSG has fought a very significant battle against organised crime and terrorism in the country.
The NSG has protected the nation with its bravery in several serious attacks since 1984. These include Operation Ashwamedh, Operation Vajra Shakti and Operation Dhangu Suraksha, he said.
"Seeing the bravery of the NSG, every citizen of the country feels that the security of the nation is in very safe hands. The entire country takes pride in the bravery of the NSG. I extend my very best wishes to NSG soldiers for this," Shah said.
The NSG is a federal contingency force under the Union home ministry. It was raised in 1984 and its 'Black Cat' commandos are tasked with specific counter-terrorist and counter-hijack operations, apart from protecting high-risk VIPs.
Shah said the government is going to set up a hub of the NSG -- the sixth of the force -- in the temple town of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.
The five existing NSG hubs are Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Gandhinagar.
The home minister also laid the foundation stone of a special operation training centre of the NSG which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 141 crore in an area spanning 8 acres.
This state-of-the-art training centre will not only be for the NSG, but will also train personnel of anti-terrorist squads from across the country. This will further strengthen the country's fight against terrorism, Shah said.&nbsp;
