Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of a university named after Jat king Mahendra Pratap Singh in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh on Tuesday.
The university is being established by the Uttar Pradesh government in memory and honour of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh, who was a freedom fighter, educationist and social reformer. The university is being set up in a total area of over 92 acres at Lodha and Musepur Kareem Jarouli villages of Aligarh&rsquo;s Kol tehsil. It will provide affiliation to 395 colleges of the Aligarh division.
PM Modi will address a gathering and then visit the exhibition models of the Aligarh node of the Uttar Pradesh defence industrial corridor and Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University.
This will be the first of the many visits of PM Modi ahead of the 2022 assembly election in Uttar Pradesh.
Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh, who belonged to the district, was an alumnus of the Aligarh Muslim University and was the president of India's first provisional government-in-exile established on December 1, 1915 in Kabul.
Belonging to the royal family of Mursan, he had left his home and family in Aligarh in December 1914 and escaped to Germany and remained in exile for about 33 years as he was wanted by the British.
He returned in 1947 only after India gained independence. He was elected to Lok Sabha from Mathura in 1957, defeating the then Jan Sangh candidate Atal Bihari Vajpayee, contesting as an Independent.

An elderly couple in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh have made what they claim is the world's biggest lock.&nbsp;The lock, which weighs over 300 kgs, has been made with iron and brass. PTI,&nbsp;New Delhi: Days after his release from jail following a court quashing his detention under the stringent National Security Act, Dr&nbsp;Kafeel Khan on Monday met Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra&nbsp;here.
Khan, a medical doctor, was recently released from the Mathura jail after the Allahabad High Court quashed his detention under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).
During the meeting, Khan is learnt to have thanked Priyanka Gandhi for the assistance and support provided by the Congress during and after his detention.
Khan's wife and children also met Priyanka Gandhi.
Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu and the party's state minority cell&rsquo;s chief Shahnawaz Alam were also present during the meeting.
Khan was suspended from Gorakhpur's BRD Medical College after several children died there in 2017, apparently due to the lack of oxygen cylinders at the government hospital.
A departmental inquiry later cleared Khan of most of the charges, but he found himself in trouble for an allegedly provocative speech in Aligarh over the amended citizenship law.
He was detained under the stringent NSA, which the Allahabad High Court earlier this month ruled was illegal.
After his release, Khan had gone to Rajasthan with his family.
"There is a Congress government in Rajasthan. My family felt that we will be safe... I wanted to spend some quality time with my family," he had said.
After he was released from jail, Priyanka Gandhi had spoken over phone with Kafeel Khan and his family and promised all possible help.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Congress had launched a campaign for Khan's release and Congressmen raised their voice for the release by signing signature campaigns, holding protests and writing letters.&nbsp;
