Days after he attended the engagement ceremony of Aam Admi Party leader Raghav Chadha and actress Parineeti Chopra, Punjab&rsquo;s Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, has removed acting Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh. &nbsp; &nbsp; The Gurdwara governing body has now appointed Giani Raghubir Singh as the new Jathedar. Raghubir Singh is at present the Jathedar of Kesgarh Sahib.&nbsp; &nbsp; The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the governing panel&rsquo;s executive body. The chief of the Gurdwara panel Harjinder Singh Dhami said Harpreet Singh himself expressed his wish to relinquish the charge.&nbsp; &nbsp; Harpreet Singh held the officiating charge as the Jathedar of the Akal Takht since 2018.&nbsp; &nbsp;

A day after fugitive radical preacher Amritpal Singh's wife Kirandeep Kaur was stopped at an airport in Amritsar from boarding a flight to the UK, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Friday said it was not right.
In a video statement issued, Singh said that stopping Kaur at an airport in Amritsar was not right from any angle as she was headed to her parental home.

Kaur was stopped from boarding a flight to London at the Sri Guru Ram Dass International Airport on Thursday.

The Akal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have reportedly appealed to the Union government to have the proposal to buy 13,000 helmets for Sikh troops withdrawn.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that a similar move by the British during World War II had been rejected by Sikhs.
SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the turban is a symbol of Sikh pride, and the new proposal is an attack on Sikh 'maryada' (code of conduct).
