Flight operations at the Srinagar International Airport had to be halted for an hour on Friday after a bomb threat as the authorities took preventive measures, officials said.
The Air Traffic Control (ATC) at the Srinagar Airport received a bomb threat on an Air Vistara flight from New Delhi, prompting a response from the authorities, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for the security at the airport, the officials said.
They said a threat call was made to the airport around the noon about the flight, which had 178 passengers onboard. Immediately after the flight landed at the airport, it was directed towards an isolation bay and the passengers and the crew were evacuated, they added.
A thorough search of the plane was carried out and bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs were also deployed to check any suspicious items, they said. After an exhaustive search, no explosives were found on the plane, they added.
Flight operations, which had to be halted for about an hour, resumed later, the officials said.
Investigations on the origin of the threat call have been initiated, the officials added.&nbsp;

India's domestic air traffic increased 2.4% in April as against the same month last year. However, the traffic fell down slightly from March 2024. According to data released by the Directorate General of civil aviation (DGCA), in April the figure climbed to 132 lakh passengers carried. In March, the reading stood at 133.68 lakh passengers.
<h3>Market share</h3>
As per DGCA, the market share of India's largest airline Indigo rose 10 basis points in April. In January 2024, it shed 160 basis points. At present, Indigo has a total market share of 60.6% flying 80 lakh passengers in April.
Indigo was followed by Air India which garnered a market share of 14.2%, flying 18.8 lakh passengers in April. Vistara's market share in April fell 40 basis points to 9.2 percent, the airline flew 12.18 lakh passengers in April.&nbsp;
The market share of AIX Connect also fell 40 basis points to 4.4 percent, as the carrier served 5.8 lakh passengers in April. While SpiceJet's market share fell 60 basis points in April, Akasa Air maintained its market share of 4.4%.
<h3>On-time performance</h3>
Akasa Air was the most punctual airline operating in India for the second straight month in a row after overtaking AIX Connect in March. At the four metro airports its on-time performance was at 89.2%. AIX Connect and Vistara were second and third, followed by IndiGo.
Overall on-time performance of airlines rose in March after heavy fog forced flight delays throughout December, January, and February, but dipped again in April due to protests across the Tata Group airlines.
<h3>Cancellation</h3>
As per DGCA, the overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for April 2024 stood at 0.80 percent, around 17 basis points higher than the 0.63% in March but lower than the 0.9% seen in February and 3.67% seen in January.

India's domestic air traffic in August rose 22.81% as compared to the same month last year. As per the data released by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on September 14, domestic airlines carried 1.24 crore passengers last month. This is the sixth straight month domestic air traffic in India had crossed the pre-covid levels in India.
In the January-August period the air traffic increased 30.55% to 10.06 crore passengers as compared to last year's data. However, the domestic air traffic in August remained the same as compared to July when airlines carried 1.24 crore passengers. The traffic has also returned to pre-covid levels in India when the domestic airlines carried about 1.19 crore passengers.

The market share of the airlines has also seen a rise. Vistara saw the highest jump in market share going to 9.8% in August. The market share of the airline in July was at 8.4%. Meanwhile Indigo's market share went down slightly to 63.3% in August as against 63.4% in July.

Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) on Wednesday said necessary actions taken to reduce congestion at the Delhi airport have resulted in "least wait time" for boarding at check points and entry gates.
In recent weeks, there have been rising passenger complaints about long waiting hours at the airport here and authorities have taken various measures to deal with the situation.
Listing out the measures, the ministry in a series of tweets said more Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) manpower are underway and four X-ray machines have been added for baggage check.

There is a command centre and count meter for crowd management. Besides, display boards have been installed at all departure entry gates of the airport, which provides real-time data and is being shared via social media, according to the ministry.
The ministry said in order "to curb congestion and waiting time at @DelhiAirport, necessary actions have been taken which have resulted in least wait time for boarding at checkpoints, entry gates and smooth transit of passengers". &nbsp; &nbsp; On Tuesday, the ministry asked airlines to deploy adequate manpower at all check-in and baggage drop counters well in advance to ensure decongestion and smooth flow of passengers at airports.
Civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday inspected the arrangements at Terminal 3 (T3) of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) amid complaints about congestion.
IGIA is the country's largest airport. On Tuesday, domestic airlines carried nearly 4.12 lakh passengers.

In view of high footfall, airlines like Indigo asked passengers to reach at least 3.5 hours prior to domestic departures.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has asked airlines to deploy adequate manpower at all check-in and baggage drop counters to ensure smooth flow of passengers.
Earlier in the day, Indigo airlines in a travel advisory asked passengers to reach at least 3.5 hours prior to domestic departures.
To address Delhi airport congestion, authorities on Monday put in place an action plan whereby flights during morning peak hours will be reduced and efforts will also be made to move some flights from Terminal 3.
The advisory also asked the passengers to carry only 1 piece of hand baggaage weighing 7 kgs for a smooth security check, and also ensure their web check-in for added convenience.

The company could not rule out further delays and last-minute cancellations, it said in a statement.
Mamadou Souré had his flight to Milan cancelled Friday morning, but was able to book an afternoon flight to Turin.
"We'll see if we can make it to Milan from there," Souré added.
Other companies operating in France, including Ryanair, Easyjet and Volotea, have also cancelled flights.
France's main union of air traffic controllers, the SNCTA, called the one-day strike to demand higher pay amid soaring inflation and ask for more staff to be hired in the coming years.
