Hours after the Canadian Parliament honoured the first death anniversary of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the Indian embassy reminded the world of the 1985 Air India flight bombing, which was allegedly carried out by Sikh militants.&nbsp;
The House of Commons on the 19th of June observed a moment of silence to mark the one-year death anniversary of Nijjar.
In response, the Consulate General of India on X announced that it has planned a memorial service to mark the anniversary of the bombing which killed all 329 people on board, most of them Canadians of Indian descent.

The bombing was blamed on Sikh militants in retaliation to 'Operation Bluestar' to flush out militants from the Golden Temple in 1984.
"India stands at the forefront of countering the menace of terrorism and works closely with all nations to tackle this global threat," the Consulate General of India in Vancouver posted on X on Tuesday.
"23 June 2024 marks the 39th Anniversary of the cowardly terrorist bombing of Air India flight 182 (Kanishka), in which 329 innocent victims, including 86 children, lost their lives in one of the most heinous terror-related air disasters in the history of civil aviation," it said.
The memorial service hosted by India comes amid strain in India's ties with Canada over the issue of Khalistan terrorists after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged in September last year of the "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated Sikh terrorist. India has dismissed Trudeau's allegations as &ldquo;absurd and motivated&rdquo;.
India has been maintaining that the main issue between the two countries is that of Canada giving space to pro-Khalistan elements operating from Canadian soil with impunity.
India has repeatedly conveyed its "deep concerns" to Canada and New Delhi expects Ottawa to take strong action against those elements.
Meanwhile, Canada's Parliament marked the first anniversary of Nijjar's death by holding a moment of silence in the House of Commons on Tuesday. He was shot dead outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18 last year. Canadian police have arrested four Indian nationals in connection with the murder.

An Air India flight from Delhi to San Francisco allegedly got delayed by more than 20 hours. Taking to social media X, frustrated passengers complained that they were made to board the plane without proper air conditioning, causing some flyers to faint. &nbsp;The flight was originally scheduled to take off at 3:20 on the 30th of May, &nbsp;but it will depart on the 31st of May at 11 am.
A user named Abhishek Sharma claimed that they were allowed to deboard the plane only after some passengers fainted.&nbsp;
Another user Shweta Punj shared her plight on X tagging Civial Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, saying that the treatment meted out to the passengers was inhuman.&nbsp;
Another social media user named Amadro also took to X to raise his grievance and said his &ldquo;mother has been stuck there&rdquo;. He claimed that &ldquo;no dinner&rdquo; and &ldquo;assistance of any kind&rdquo; were provided to the passengers.

Air India's financial woes continue to mount as its total losses, including write-offs on old aircraft and engines, are estimated to have reached a staggering ₹14,000 crore by the end of FY23. According to a report published by The Economic Times, Tata Sons, the new owner of Air India, invested approximately ₹13,000 crore in the struggling airline during FY23. This investment, however, excludes the committed funds for the purchase of 470 new airplanes.
The ET report, citing insider sources, revealed that the order value for the new aircraft is estimated at a substantial $30 billion. This significant investment will be paid in installments over the coming years.
In light of the financial challenges faced by Air India, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has emphasized that customer centricity and safety must take precedence over the pursuit of profit.
To aid its ambitious expansion plans, Air India recently finalized a deal with CFM International, a US-based engine manufacturer, to procure engines for a whopping 400 aircraft. The agreement, first announced in February, will see CFM's LEAP engines powering the airline's new fleet of 210 Airbus A320neo/A321neos and 190 Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft. Additionally, the two companies signed a comprehensive multi-year services agreement covering the entire LEAP engine fleet of the airline.
Air India's collaboration with CFM International dates back to 2002 when the airline began operating Airbus A320ceo aircraft powered by CFM56-5B engines. In 2017, Air India became the first operator in India to use LEAP-1A engines, starting with A320neos. Presently, the airline operates 27 LEAP-1A-powered A320neo family aircraft.
The Tata Group's acquisition of a 100% stake in Air India and Air India Express was finalized under the strategic divestment program led by the Indian government in January 2022.
Undeterred by its current challenges, Air India is charting a transformational course called Vihaan.AI, aiming to triple its fleet size and capture 30% of both the domestic and international market shares within the next five years.
Despite the losses, Air India and Tata Sons are striving to turn the tide and position the airline as a formidable player in the fiercely competitive aviation industry. The collaboration with CFM International and the ambitious expansion plans underscore their determination to soar above adversity and secure a brighter future for the iconic Indian carrier.

AirAsia India has received approval from the civil aviation regulator to operate its flights under the Air India Express brand, marking a big step in the ongoing integration process of the two airlines. This move will enable them to streamline route planning and present a unified front when advertising and selling tickets.
The integration process is part of the Tata Group's efforts to merge AirAsia India and Air India Express into a single low-cost airline, while also combining Air India and Vistara to form a full-service carrier.
In a statement, AirAsia India expressed its enthusiasm about the regulatory approval to operate flights under the 'Air India Express' branding. The development signifies the fast-tracking of integration efforts, with a focus on harmonizing customer touchpoints, products, and services across both airlines.
A crucial aspect of the deal is the codeshare agreement between Air India Express and Air India, allowing the former to offer seamless domestic and international connectivity under the same ticket. This is particularly significant as AirAsia India currently operates exclusively on domestic routes, while Air India Express primarily serves destinations in the Middle East from cities in Kerala.
The merger between AirAsia India and Air India Express has already received approvals from various regulators, including the Competition Commission of India, Registrar of Companies, and the National Company Law Tribunal. The final step before the airlines can operate under the same code is the merging of their operating manuals, which is expected to be completed by October.
Internally, AirAsia India has already taken significant steps towards integration, including appointing a single CEO and adopting a common reservations system, website, social media platforms, and customer support channels. The airlines have also finalized key executive appointments, pending approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The two airlines currently operate separate fleets, with AirAsia India using Airbus A320 aircraft, and Air India Express relying on Boeing 737 planes. The merger of their manuals by October will facilitate a smoother transition.
With the addition of 50 new Boeing 737 Max aircraft to its existing fleet of 54, AirAsia India aims to become the second-largest low-cost airline in the country by the end of FY24. The airline has ambitious plans to expand its reach to 30 international destinations, including Cambodia, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey, and Vietnam.

Air India's iconic Maharajah mascot may soon be taking a backseast, as Tata Group initiates a long-awaited brand revamp. The national carrier came under Tata's ownership last year after privatization.
Although the Maharajah image might still grace airport lounges and premium classes, it will no longer serve as the airline's mascot. The Maharajah has been synonymous with Air India since 1946, while the carrier's logos have seen various designs over the decades, including the centaur, rising sun, and flying swan.
As part of the rebranding exercise, Air India will sport a new livery, featuring the colours red, white, and purple. Red and white have long been associated with Air India, while the purple hue will be derived from Vistara's livery, which has garnered substantial goodwill in its eight-year existence.
As a part of Tata Group's airline consolidation, Vistara will merge into Air India, possibly by March 2024. The new colours will debut on the Airbus A350 aircraft, which Air India plans to introduce in November.
To craft the new branding strategy, Air India has enlisted the expertise of London-based brand and design consultancy firm FutureBrand, known for its work with American Airlines, Bentley, and the 2012 London Olympics.
The goal is to transform Air India's identity to compete with elite carriers like Emirates and Qatar Airways. The new branding will be revealed in August, accompanied by an extensive print and electronic media campaign spearheaded by Prasoon Joshi-led McCann Worldgroup.
The decision to part ways with the Maharajah stems from the desire to project a more contemporary image that resonates with business travellers and corporate executives.
The character, though successful in the past, no longer aligns with the target customer base and has faced several misinterpretations and adaptations. Additionally, most modern global airlines have moved away from using mascots.
Under Tata Group's ownership, Air India has been working consistently to enhance its image among passengers. The airline is in the process of refurbishing its cabins, introducing new seats, and retiring older aircraft throughout the next year.
With the new branding strategy and Vistara's integration, Air India aims to position itself as the carrier of choice for travellers flying to and from India, taking on the competition from elite airlines worldwide.

The mega deal sealed by Air India for 470 aircraft, could almost double to 840 aircraft. In a post by Air India's Chief Commercial and Transformation Office Nipun Aggarwal said that the airline has the option to purchase an additional 370 jets over a 10 year period.&nbsp;
In a LinkedIn post, Aggarwal said the airline is humbled by the excitement generated across the world by the airline's aircraft order.
"The order comprises 470 firm aircraft, 370 options and purchase rights to be procured from Airbus and Boeing over the next decade," he said. Reports suggest the deal size could be anywhere between $70 billion to $80 billion.&nbsp; Air India was acquired from the government by Tata Group in January 2022. This is also the first time in more than 17 years that Air India has ordered planes. As per reports, the first A350 plane will be delivered to the airline by the end of this year.
