"Adolf Lu Hitler arrested by John F Kennedy". That was the headline in Meghalaya back in 2008 during the assembly elections. And no, the late American president hadn't nabbed the German fuhrer.
What had happened instead was that then NCP candidate Adolf Lu Hitler Marak was arrested by Superintendent of Police John F Kennedy during campaigning for the state elections.
The headline was splashed across several newspapers, piquing the interest of many a reader and quickly becoming talk of the town.
Hitler later won the elections.
This anecdote was shared by the Election Commission in a post on X as the country gears up for Lok Sabha polls.
Last year, Adolf Lu Hitler Marak joined the TMC.
German leader Adolf Hitler killed himself in April 1945, while US president Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963.

Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's birth home in Austria will be redesigned into a police station, the country's authorities said.

Nazi dictator <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/why-hitler-adored-richard-wagner-1659607583539">Adolf Hitler</a>&rsquo;s birth house in Austria will be redesigned into a police station with a human rights centre.
Austrian officials reportedly took control of the house in 2016 to prevent it from becoming a neo-Nazi shrine. The house was known to attract Nazi-sympathizers from around the world.
Hitler was born in this complex in Austria, Braunau on April 20, 1889 and only lived here for a short time.
The Austrian director G&uuml;nter Schwaiger, however, said the ministry&rsquo;s plans for the house will &ldquo;always be suspected&rdquo; of being &ldquo;in line with the dictator&rsquo;s wishes&rdquo;. He is expected to release a documentary about the building later this month.

As evidence, Schwaiger cited the discovery of a local newspaper article from 10 May 1939, which states that it was Hitler&rsquo;s wish to have his birth house converted into offices for the district authorities.

A description of the watch Alexander Historical Auctions, the auction house that sold the item, says that it was likely to have been given to Hitler on April 20, 1933, when on his 44th birthday the dictator was named with former Chancellor Paul von Hindenburg, an honorary citizen of Bavaria – the first such honour in the history of Germany.
It further adds that a French soldier seized the watch as ‘spoils of war' on Friday May 4, 1945, when his unit became the first Allied force to arrive at Hitler's retreat in the mountains of Bavaria
There are three dates engraved on the watch: 20.4.89 - Hitler’s birth date, then 30.1.33 – the day he was appointed chancellor of Germany and 5.3.33 – the Nazi party won the elections.
