In a comprehensive analysis of India&rsquo;s performance during the Adelaide Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, former cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out significant shortcomings in India&rsquo;s bowling attack. Following India&rsquo;s 10-wicket defeat in the second Test, Manjrekar identified key moments and strategies that could have changed the outcome, particularly focusing on the need for persistent bowling in foreign conditions.
Australia leveled the series 1-1 with a dominant display, fueled by strong batting performances from Nathan McSweeney, Marnus Labuschagne, and Travis Head, who built a vital 157-run first-innings lead. Manjrekar highlighted the critical night session of Day 1, where India&rsquo;s bowlers seemed unable to break through, citing the absence of experienced pacer Mohammed Shami as a key factor. Instead, India relied on relatively inexperienced bowlers like Harshit Rana, alongside veterans Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. While Siraj has experience in similar conditions, Manjrekar noted he lacked the same level of threat that Shami would have brought.
During his analysis on ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar pointed out that the Indian team struggled against Australia&rsquo;s resilience, particularly from young batsmen McSweeney and Labuschagne, who effectively nullified India&rsquo;s attack in the crucial stages. Travis Head's commanding 140-run knock sealed the game for Australia, exposing India's inability to sustain pressure. Manjrekar noted that despite occasional brilliance from Bumrah and Siraj, India&rsquo;s attack did not match the intensity seen in previous tests like the one in Perth.
In addition to critiquing the bowling, Manjrekar also addressed India&rsquo;s batting woes. With scores of just 180 and 175 in both innings, India was undone by Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, whose incisive bowling exposed the team&rsquo;s vulnerabilities to swinging conditions.

'Drop-in pitch' - you must have heard the term while watching a cricket match that's taking place in Australia or New Zealand.
The T20 World Cup currently underway Down Under has once again drawn attention to these drop-in pitches.

So, what exactly is a drop-in pitch?
Like, the name would suggest, these pitches are not made at the venue itself but are dropped in. In fact, these custom-made pitches are prepared elsewhere, before they are put onto cement slabs and transported to their destination. These panels are then dropped a few inches deep into the ground, and the artificial turf is then rolled around it to level the surface.

Why are drop-in pitches used?
Using a drop-in pitch allows the stadium/venue to have a multi-purpose role. While the pitches are dropped in during the cricket season, these venues can be used for other sporting events as well as music concerts during the off-season.
For example - the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, Adelaide Oval and Eden Park in Auckland host a variety of sports, including football, AFL &amp; rugby apart from cricket. Once the cricket season is over, these drop-in pitches are taken out and away to allow other sporting events. Before the cricket season begins, they are once again put back in place.

Future of drop-in pitches These drop-in pitches are being used at Australian venues since 1996. Earlier, there were doubts about the quality since these pitches were made in steel casings and didn't have the natural variation that comes with the usual deterioration of the surface. In fact, they were deemed 'too flat' in the past.
But advances, both in terms of understanding the topography and the contents of the soil used, have enhanced the quality of the contest as well. It also allows the curator to modify the pitch as he/she deems fit, which would not have been possible with conventional tracks.
Due to these advancements, countries like Pakistan are now looking at using drop-in pitches at their venues to maximise their revenues through year-round events.

Here is where Team India will quarantine before Aus tour

Virat Kohli's men and the Australian players taking part in the IPL&nbsp;will quarantine themselves Down Under before the Test series.

Cricket Australia announced&nbsp;on Saturday that their men's team will complete their mandatory quarantine period at Adelaide Oval&rsquo;s onsite hotel upon returning from England. This would exclude the players who will directly fly to UAE&nbsp;for the IPL&nbsp;starting September 19. According to reports in the Australian press, Aussie players who return after the&nbsp;cash-rich league&nbsp;along with the Indian team will too isolate themselves in the same bio-secure bubble at the&nbsp;Adelaide facility ahead of the high-profile&nbsp;Test series. IPL&nbsp;gets over on November 10 and India's 4-match Test series vs Australia starts on December 3.
