CEO of Covishield vaccine maker Serum Institute Adar Poonawalla has finalized this year's most expensive home sale in London at a staggering &pound;138 million, that's approximately ₹1446 crore. The billionare has bought the Aberconway House, which is a sprawling 1920s mansion near Hyde Park.&nbsp;&nbsp; According to Financial Times, this acquisition was made through Serum Life Sciences, a UK subsidiary of the Poonawalla family's Serum Institute of India. The sale was facilitated by Dominika Kulczyk, daughter of the late businessman Jan Kulczyk, Poland&rsquo;s wealthiest man.
This deal also places Aberconway House as the second-most expensive residential sale in London's history, marking a significant transaction in the luxury property market. According to reports, Poonawalla's family doesn't intend to relocate permanently to the UK, using the mansion as a base for both family and company needs during their UK visits.

Previously, Poonawalla had rented the Grade II-listed property for over &pound;50,000 weekly in 2021, as reported by Bloomberg. The mansion, named after industrialist Henry Duncan McLaren, Baron Aberconway, was the residence of the late McLaren who constructed the Grosvenor Square mansion.
This purchase follows the acquisition of Hanover Lodge, the year's second-largest sale for by the Ruia family office for &pound;113 million (₹1200 crore).&nbsp; London's most expensive sale, 2-8a Rutland Gate, was finalized in January 2020 for a record-breaking &pound;210 million by Hui Ka Yan, founder and chair of Evergrande, as revealed by the Financial Times last year.

Fraudsters duped vaccine-maker Serum Institute of India (SII) of more than Rs 1 crore by sending messages in the name of its Chief Executive Officer Adar Poonawalla and asking for transfer of money, Pune Police said on Saturday.

Satish Deshpande, one of the directors of the SII, received WhatsApp messages from a person who posed as Adar Poonawalla, as per the FIR.&nbsp;

Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) has been duped of Rs 1 crore by fraudsters who allegedly posed as the company&rsquo;s chief executive officer (CEO) Adar Poonawalla and sent a WhatsApp message to one of its directors seeking money transfer to various accounts, said the police.
The fraud unfolded between Wednesday and Thursday, said an official of Bundgarden police station.
A First Information Report (FIR) for cheating and offences under the Information Technology Act has been registered against unidentified persons, said senior inspector Pratap Mankar.
Satish Deshpande, one of the directors of the SII, received WhatsApp messages from a person who posed as Adar Poonawalla, as per the FIR.
The sender asked Deshpande to transfer money to certain bank accounts immediately, said the complaint filed by the finance manager of the firm.

Believing that it was the CEO who had messaged, company officials transferred Rs 1,01,01,554 online, only to realize later that Poonawalla had never sent any such WhatsApp communication.
Investigation was going on, said inspector Mankar.
The SII, which has a plant near Pune, produces the Covishield vaccine against coronavirus among other vaccines.

Even as the Serum Institute of India was being praised in the country for being one of the first vaccine-makers to start providing jabs against Covid-19, the company was facing criticism from foreign media. SII's CEO Adar Poonawalla made the revelation during a conversation with Sanjiv Goenka, chairman, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group at All India Management Association's (AIMA) 7th National Leadership Conclave.
Poonawalla was asked by Goenka how he dealt with overnight stardom as the Covishield vaccine received approval to become one of the first vaccines to be administered in India. The SII CEO said that while Indian media was fair, foreign media criticised him as it didn't suit the West that "an Indian company had the quality and capability of contributing globally in such an important matter".
Poonawalla said that he received praise and criticism in equal measure at the time, and it was a difficult phase for him. The CEO said that he would be happy to "slowly" fade out of the limelight now.

As schools across India prepare for full scale reopening, Covishield manufacturer Serum Institute of India’s CEO Adar Poonawalla said Tuesday that pharma giant is planning to launch a vaccine for those below the age of 18 within the next six months.

He said Covishield is not recommended or approved for people below the age of 18 so that’s why Covovax is under trials and has shown excellent data all the way down to the age group of 3.
Stating that two companies in India have been licensed for children’s vaccines, which would be available soon, Poonawalla said there is no harm, these vaccines have been proven to be safe and efficacious.
On December 3, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told Parliament that the Government will take a decision on vaccination below 18 on the basis of recommendations from its two key expert groups on vaccine administration.

So there is a gap of 300 million in the figures.

Just over 2% of the population has got both the shots till now and 12% people have got at least one jab.The drive to vaccinate all adults from May 1 has also fumbled due to shortage of vaccine with citizens struggling to get limited slots. States after states have complained that the vaccine makers have asked them to wait.
