According to The Hollywood Reporter, in a letter shared with its members, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang stated, "We will honour Los Angeles as the city of dreams, showcasing its beauty and resilience, as well as its role as a beacon for filmmakers and creative visionaries for over a century."&nbsp;
The letter further emphasized the Academy's commitment to celebrating the city's strength, creativity, and enduring optimism, qualities that have shaped its identity and its pivotal role in global entertainment.
Kramer and Yang also noted that the ceremony would acknowledge the challenges the region has faced, particularly the devastation caused by wildfires, while highlighting the resilience of its residents and artistic community.&nbsp;
By spotlighting Los Angeles, the Academy aims to celebrate its significance not only as a backdrop for filmmaking but also as an integral part of the storytelling tradition.
Another major change for this year&rsquo;s ceremony involves a reimagining of the Best Original Song category. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscars will "move away" from the traditional live performances of the nominated songs. Instead, the presentation will focus on the songwriters and their creative process.
"This year, the best original song category presentation will move away from live performances and will be focused on the songwriters," the letter confirmed. "We will celebrate their artistry through personal reflections from the teams who bring these songs to life."&nbsp;
This shift aims to highlight the stories and inspirations behind the nominated songs, placing the spotlight on the individuals responsible for creating the music that enhances cinematic narratives.
Historically, live performances have been a key feature of the Best Original Song segment, often serving as a highlight of the ceremony. However, this new approach seeks to provide greater recognition to the songwriters as the true nominees, offering audiences a deeper understanding of the artistry behind the music.
Through these updates, the Academy is striving to create a ceremony that reflects both the challenges and triumphs of its host city while celebrating the creativity that drives the film industry forward.

Variety reports that the Academy informed its members of the change in a Wednesday afternoon email from CEO Bill Kramer.
"We want to offer our deepest condolences to those who have been impacted by the devastating fires across Southern California. So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you," the message stated.
Additionally, the deadline for Oscar nomination voting has been extended by two days, now closing on January 14. Voting for the nearly 10,000 Academy members began on January 8 and was initially set to end on January 12.
Conan O'Brien is slated to host the 2025 Oscars, which will take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
On Wednesday night, a rapidly spreading fire broke out in Hollywood Hills, threatening one of Los Angeles' most iconic locations. Firefighters are still battling multiple major fires that have claimed the lives of five people, forced 100,000 residents to evacuate, and left a trail of destruction from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena.
Several Hollywood celebrities, including Billy Crystal, Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton, and Cary Elwes, were among those who lost their homes to the fires.

Indian filmmaker Karishma Dev Dube directorial 'Bittu' has made it to the Live Action Short Film shortlist for the 93rd Academy Awards.
The film has been presented by Tahira Kashyap, Ekta Kapoor and Guneet Monga under their Indian Women Rising initiative.
Besides winning the Student Academy Award, the short film has participated in over eighteen film festivals across the world.
Set against the backdrop of a tragic incident, 'Bittu' is based on a true story which tells the tale of a heartwarming friendship between two school-going friends&nbsp;eclipsed by an accidental poisoning at school.&nbsp;
