Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on October 2 said the caste census of Bihar has proved that 84 per cent of people in the state are OBCs, SCs and STs and their rights should be according to their population.

After the Congress strongly batted for a national caste census with the assertion that rights should be proportionate to the population, senior party leader Abhishek Singhvi on Tuesday struck a note of caution, saying it will eventually culminate into majoritarianism.
The remarks by Singhvi, a spokesperson of the party and a member of its apex decision-making body Congress Working Committee, countered the pitch for "'Jitni abaadi, utna haq' (rights proportionate to the population)" made by Rahul Gandhi and other leaders following the release of Bihar caste census on Monday.
"Equality of opportunity is never the same as equality of outcomes. People endorsing #jitniabadiutnahaq have to first completely understand the consequences of it. It will eventually culminate into majoritarianism," Singhvi said on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while speaking at a poll rally in Jagdalpur said the Congress should clarify whether rights can be given in proportion to the "abaadi" (population) and asserted that poor people have the first right over the country's resources.
Modi also asked whether the grand old party wants to decrease the rights of Muslims.

No coercive action against Facebook till Oct 15: SC directs committee

The Supreme Court on Wednesday heard petition filed by Facebook India's VP and MD, Ajit Mohan, against the notice issued by Delhi Legislative Assembly for deposing before it. The court has given one week time to the respondent to file counter affidavit.
The Delhi assembly's peace committee looking into alleged misapplication of Facebook's anti-hate speech rules during the February riots in the national capital, deferred its meeting after the apex court directed the committee not to take any coercive step against Facebook and its VP &amp; MD Ajit Mohan, till October 15, when it will take up the matter for further hearing. Senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi representing Delhi Assembly Committee has however argued &lsquo;no coercive step was intended by Delhi Assembly against Facebook&rsquo;.
