The curfew would be in effect from 9 am to 6 am for four weeks starting Saturday in a number cities, including Paris, Lille, Lyon, Marseille and Toulouse. While Macron called the situation "worrisome", he added that "control has not been lost". France has seen a spike in Covid cases since July with the most recent record daily high of nearly 27,000 infections on October 10.

Delhi's air quality 'poor' due to spike in farm fires

Delhi recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 201 at 9 am, which falls in the poor category. Delhi's air quality had turned poor on Wednesday, the first time since June 29, with the Central Pollution Control Board recording a 24-hour average AQI of 215. PM10 levels in Delhi-NCR stood at 234 microgram per cubic metre (&micro;g/m3) on Wednesday evening, according to CPCB data, while PM2.5 levels were 93 &micro;g/m3. According to Punjab government data, 1,692 farm fires have been recorded in the state this season, Haryana reported 526 farm fires.

Parliament starts today under strict Covid norms

Parliament is fully prepared for the 18-day Monsoon Session from Monday under the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic with many firsts, including sitting of the two Houses in shifts without any off day, entry only to those having a negative Covid-19 report and compulsory wearing of masks.&nbsp;In run-up to the session, while over 4,000 people including MPs and staff have been tested for virus, most parliamentary operations have been digitalized, entire premises&nbsp;sanitised&nbsp;and doors made touch-free.&nbsp;The first-of-its-kind Monsoon Session will see Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sitting in two different shifts, while special seating arrangements have been made for MPs in adherence to social distancing guidelines.&nbsp;Barring on the first day, Rajya Sabha will convene in morning shift from 9 am till 1 pm, and Lok Sabha in evening shift from 3 pm to 7 pm. The chambers of both houses along with their respective galleries will be used for sitting of the members in each shift.&nbsp;In between the two shifts, the entire complex will be&nbsp;sanitised.&nbsp;Frequent&nbsp;sanitisation&nbsp;of the entire parliament complex will also be carried out, while arrangements have been made to&nbsp;sanitise&nbsp;various parliamentary papers as well as footwear and cars of MPs, officials said.&nbsp;Frisking of people will also make way for touch-less security scanning, while thermal scanning will also be totally touch-free.&nbsp;

No weekend breaks for MPs during Monsoon Session

MPs will not getting any weekend breaks during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. The session, slated to begin from September 14, will seen many changes due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic

Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will work in separate shifts and there will be special seating for MPs to ensure distancing. Lok Sabha will sit from 9 am to 1 pm on the first day and from 3 pm to 7 pm till October 1. Rajya Sabha will sit from 3 pm to 7 pm the first day and 9 am to 1 pm the rest of the days. Weekends will be working days. The session will end on October 1.
