India’s Covid count over 69 lakh, 70,000 new cases in 24 hours

India's coronavirus caseload is now over 69 lakh&nbsp;with 70,496 new cases in the last 24 hours. The death toll also rose to 1,06,490 with 964 new fatalities.&nbsp;
India has reported a sustained decline in the number of active coronavirus cases in the last two weeks. Just 13% of all cases remain under treatment now.
As many as 23 states and union territories have fewer active cases now than they had two weeks ago.

Why India may continue to see over 1000 daily deaths

In past 10 days, India has continued to record over 1000 daily death six times and&nbsp;this could now be the new normal in&nbsp;terms of Covid-19 fatality.

While&nbsp;Maharashtra, which is the worst hit state and continues to report between 300 and 400 deaths every day, sometimes even higher, large number of deaths are being reported from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and increasingly now from Punjab, which has relatively lesser number of infected people.&nbsp;
On&nbsp;Friday, Punjab&nbsp;crossed 6000 Covid-19 cases&nbsp;and&nbsp;on Wednesday reported&nbsp;more than 100 deaths&nbsp;for the first time, which is relatively higher compared to number of cases.&nbsp;
Karnataka and&nbsp;Tamil Nadu&nbsp;are the other two states that are consistently reporting more than 100 deaths every day.&nbsp;The daily death count is likely to increase further in the coming week because of the sharp rise in the number of infections that we are witnessing right now.
People whose deaths are being reported right now are from the batch which would have been found to be infected at least ten days ago.
At that time, India was discovering between 60,000 and 70,000 new cases every day. In the last one week, this number has gone up substantially, being well over&nbsp;80,000 on most days.&nbsp;
