The wait is finally over as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the much-awaited 5G services in India on October 1, 2022. 
He will also inaugurate the 6th Edition of India Mobile Congress 2022 to be held from October 1-4, 2022, at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi 
According to the report, 5G to be launched by the Prime Minister in select cities, will progressively cover the entire country over the next couple of years.

According to the report, 5G services would be rolled out in a phased manner and during the first phase only 13 selected cities would get the fast speed 5G internet services. These cities include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune.

The comment assumes significance as the Union Cabinet has approved the modalities for holding 5G spectrum auction, and 72 GHz of radio waves will be put on the block by July-end.

The Cabinet also decided to enable the development and setting up of 'Private Captive Networks' to spur a wave of innovation in new-age industry applications such as machine-to-machine communications, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) across automotive, healthcare, agriculture, energy, and other sectors.
"The beginning of a new era for Indian Telecom. 5G spectrum auction announced," Vaishnaw tweeted.
Continuing the telecom reforms agenda, development and setting up of Private Captive Networks will be enabled, he wrote.
"Moving forward with PM @narendramodi ji's vision of a Digital India. Spectrum auction announced today is an integral part of developing #BharatKa5G ecosystem," Vaishnaw said.
Cabinet has approved 5G auctions at reserve prices recommended by the sector regulator TRAI. TRAI had recommended around a 39 per cent cut in the reserve or floor price for the sale of 5G spectrum for mobile services.
All the available spectrum in 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, 3300 MHz, and 26 GHz bands is part of the auction.
Overall, 72097.85 MHz of spectrum has been put to auction. The auction shall be a Simultaneous Multiple Round Ascending (SMRA) e-auction.
Spectrum acquired through this auction can be surrendered after a minimum period of ten years. There will be no Spectrum Usage Charges (SUC) for spectrum acquired this time.
Spectrum will be assigned for a period of 20 years.
The requirement for a successful bidder to submit a Financial Bank Guarantee (FBG) and Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) has been done away with.
Licensees can set up isolated captive non-public networks for industries using the spectrum acquired through this auction.

India dialled into the next generation calling system as Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw&nbsp; made the first <a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/first-ever-5g-call-telecom-minister-dials-in-1653015578745" target="_blank">5G call</a> on a trial network set up at IIT Madras using indigenously-developed telecom gears.
"Aatmanirbhar 5G. Successfully tested 5G call at IIT Madras. Entire end-to-end network is designed and developed in India," Vaishnaw said in a social media post.
The telecom minister, after making a video call on indigenously developed <a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/canada-bans-chinese-telecom-giant-huawei-zte-from-5g-network-1653012922195" target="_blank">5G technology</a> gears, said that it is the realisation of the prime minister's vision.
"His (PM's) vision is to have our own 4G, 5G technology stack, developed in India, made in India and made for the world. We have to win the world with this entire technology stack," Vaishnaw said after making the call.
The government expects commercial roll-out of 5G services to start in the country by August-September this year.At present, telecom companies have been allowed to only conduct trial of 5G services.
The&nbsp;5G test-bed has been developed as a multi-institute collaborative project by eight institutes led by IIT Madras.In the absence of a 5G test-bed, startups and other industry players were required to go abroad to test and validate their products for installation in a 5G network.
