FIR under anti-terror law against journalist arrested enroute Hathras

A journalist from Kerala and three others have been charged under the stringent anti-terror law UAPA, and sedition by the Uttar Pradesh&nbsp;police after they were arrested on their way to&nbsp;Hathras earlier this week.&nbsp;
In a statement issued after the 4 people were arrested on Monday, the UP Police said that they arrested journalist&nbsp;Siddique Kappan, Atiq-ur Rehman,&nbsp;Masood Ahmed and Alam&nbsp;after a tip-off that&nbsp;&nbsp;"suspicious people" were on their way to Hathras from Delhi. The police also claimed that the 4 men had mentioned during questioning that they had links to Popular Front of India and its affiliate.&nbsp;
Kappan&nbsp;is a&nbsp;contributor for a popular Kerala-based website and is also the secretary of the Delhi unit of Kerala Union of Working Journalists.

UP CM recommends CBI probe in Hathras gangrape case

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday announced that he is recommending a CBI probe into the Hathras case, amid a growing political storm over the death of the 19-year-old Dalit victim who was&nbsp; brutally assaulted and allegedly gang-raped by 4 men. He also said that his government is 'determined to ensure the harshest punishment for those guilty in the entire incident.
The development came within hours of Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi and Director General of Police H C Awasthy meeting the victim's family at her home in Hathras on the direction of the chief minister.
A SIT formed on Adityanath's order has already begun its investigations and even visited the victim's house on Saturday after the Gandhis left.
