Congress starts process to find new party president

The Congress has started the process for organisational elections with the central election authority meeting on Tuesday. The Madhusudan Mistry-led panel has finalised the initial programme of the process. Reports, quoting party sources, said that if everything goes as per schedule, Congress will have a newly-elected president by early 2021. This comes after a letter was written by 23 leaders in the party to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi in August demanding organisational elections from top to the bottom and visible leadership on the ground.

Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi will meet some of the dissident Congress leaders on Tuesday at a key parliament strategy meeting. This is the first meeting of the party leaders after the stormy Congress Working Committee session. 
Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma, who were among the 23 leaders who signed a letter that called for major changes in leadership, will be participating in the meeting.
Reports say that Tuesday's meeting will focus on the party's strategy during the Parliament session and the issues to be raised by the party. The Congress has been attacking the Narendra Modi government for suspending Question Hour.
