The 65-year-old is named as an accused in a case of attempt to murder and unlawful assembly during the riots in the city that followed the demolition of the Babri masjid in December 1992.

After being on the large for 31 years, Sayyad Nadir Shah Abbas Khan who was involved in the 1993 Mumbai riots case was apprehended.&nbsp;
Mumbai Police said on Tuesday that Khan was caught by a special team from Central Mumbai's Sweri area on Monday.&nbsp;
The 65-year-old is named as an accused in a case of attempt to murder and unlawful assembly during the riots in the city that followed the demolition of the Babri masjid in December 1992.
Though Khan was arrested by the police at that time, the 65-year-old got bail and never attended the court since then.
An official told PTI news agency that the court declared Khan as a wanted accused and issued a non-bailable warrant against him.
Police visited his residence in Sewri in central Mumbai many times but he remained untraceable.
Years later, the enforcement agencies finally got a tip-off about his whereabouts by examining the mobile phone records of his relatives.&nbsp;
On June 29, police got information that Khan was going to visit his residence, following which a trap was laid and he was arrested.
Khan has been re-arrested in the 1993 case and further probe was on, the official told PTI news agency.

A police official told PTI that halogen lights were installed in the graveyard on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, which Muslims believe is the night of forgiveness.
The official said the marble tiles around Memon's grave were put up three years ago and there are 13 other graves at the place.

While some BJP leaders claimed the grave was converted into a tomb while Uddhav Thackeray was the chief minister, the Thackeray-led Shiv Sena said the whole issue was an attempt to divert people&rsquo;s attention from more important issues like inflation and unemployment.

Responding on behalf of the government, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said, "The period of 25 years, which is mentioned in the assurance, will be abided by the Union of India at an appropriate time subject to the remedies which may be available." The government also said that it was not the appropriate time for it to take a call on the issue, and the Supreme Court could take a decision, instead.
Reacting sharply to the government's response, the Supreme Court said, "Don't lecture the judiciary." The 2-judge SC bench said that it does not take it kindly when the court is asked to decide something which the government should decide. The judges said that the Home Secretary is "nobody" to tell the court to decide the issue.
Abu Salem was convicted in 2017 for transporting weapons from Gujarat to Maharashtra ahead of the serial blasts in Mumbai on March 12, 1993. Over 250 were killed, and over 700 were injured in the terror attack.
