Former American astronaut Buzz Aldrin's jacket from the historic moon mission with Neil Armstrong has been auctioned at a record value of $2.8m. It is the most valuable American space artefact to be auctioned.

Features like fire-resistant beta cloth used in the jacket with Aldrin's name inscribed is what perhaps led to the buyer wanting to own this jacket.
It's one of the several other belongings that the 92-year-old former astronaut has put up for sale including a flight plan that was bought for $819,000.
Aldrin is currently the only surviving member of three-men crew of Apollo 11's command module Columbia&nbsp;

The award caps a week of Nobel Prizes and is technically known as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Since its establishment in 1969, it has been awarded 51 times and is now widely considered one of the Nobel prizes.
