Covid-19: India’s virus death toll soars past grim 1 lakh mark

India&rsquo;s covid-19 death toll soared past the grim one lakh mark while the number of positive cases surged past 64 lakh on Friday. , health ministry data showed in the last 24 hours 81,484 new infections were reported while 1,095 people succumbed to the virus, taking the death toll to 1,00,271. 83.37% covid-related deaths and 76.62% of the active cases are concentrated to just 10 states. Mahasrastra is at the top of the list with 394 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, followed by Kerala with 130 deaths. India is now third worst affected country in terms of Covid deaths after US and Brazil.

India&rsquo;s Covid-19 death toll has soared past the grim one lakh mark while the number of positive cases are now nearing 65 lakh. According to the health ministry data on Saturday morning, 1,095 more people succumbed to the virus, taking the death toll to 1,00,842. Over 83% of Covid-related deaths are concentrated to just 10 states. India is now third worst affected country in terms of Covid deaths after US and Brazil. The data showed that over 79,000 new infections were recorded in the last 24 hours taking the total caseload close to 65 lakh. There are now nearly 9.5 lakh&nbsp;active cases in the country while over 54 lakh&nbsp;people have so far recovered from the virus.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Health Ministry on Thursday said 75% of the 86,508 Covid-19 cases reported in a span of 24 hours in India, are concentrated in 10 states and Union territories, which include Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Chhattisgarh. Maharashtra continues to top this list, contributing more than 21,000 cases, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka with more than 7,000 and 6,000 coronavirus cases. India's Covid-19 recovery rate has meanwhile improved to 81.55% on September 24. About 13 states/UTs are also reporting higher number of new recoveries than new cases. India has been reporting steady trend of higher recoveries than new cases for the 6th successive day.
