Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into the 20-year-old Hathras Dalit girl’s alleged gang-rape on September 14. Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government had recommended a CBI probe into the Hathras case. A letter was also sent in this regard to the central government. The Dalit girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by four men and was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in an extremely critical condition with spinal injuries and paralysis. Her death on September 29th and subsequent hasty cremation generated considerable political heat on the UP government.
