With the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the throne will now be occupied by her son Charles.

The eldest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Charles was born in 1948.
After becoming the first ever heir to the British crown to earn a bachelor's degree, Charles attended the Royal Air Force College, and the Royal Naval College. He took a tour of duty with the Royal Navy from 1971 to 1976.

Charles got married to Diana Frances Spencer in 1981. They had two sons - William and Harry - before getting divorced in 1996. Diana died in a car accident a year later. In 2005, Charles married his long-time partner Camilla Parker Bowles.

In April 2021, Charles' father Prince Philip had died. The new King, now aged 73, was next in line to the throne for 70 years, the longest wait in the history of British monarchy.
