A burning issue of safety may lead to a recall of the much popular e-scooters by manufacturers such as Ola and Okinawa. As per reports the govt may direct these electric scooter makers to issue a recall after a series of fire incidents, unnamed sources told Livemint.

On March 26, a video of a black Ola e-scooter engulfed in flames went viral on social media. The same day, another fatal fire involving a battery-powered Okinawa scooter reportedly killed a father and a child in Tamil Nadu. There have been 6 known incidents of e-scooters catching fire, 4 of which have been Ola.
Vehicles catching fire has been a concern globally. Battery fire risks caused General Motors to recall 100,000 cars, and Hyundai to recall 82,000 cars in 2021.
